I would like it SLIGHTLY darker. I can probably achieve what I want with gamma/brightness settings in game though, so no big deal. What I LOVE is the detail. The siege demon at the end of the gameplay movie, when he bit the baba in half, had entrails hanging from his mouth and a large bloodstain on his chest. At the moment, as I shouted in excitement, I had no fear of D3 letting me down. =)

Why is so many whining about the big shoulderpads? I actually really like them,I like cool looking "huge" armors...keep up the good work blizzard, you are doing just fine.
I'm with you on this one. Baba has always been my preferred class, and I like the idea of my guy being covered in massive furs and big armors and a skull on his head, to go with his two glowy, shiny axes of "+15 face smash!"...

What's up with the post count, I was near 100 now I'm at 17?
Voted "needs work", but it is too cartoony (More stylisation that attempted realism, Blocky handrails, absurd shoulder pads, smiling lion statue, a rainbow- THIS IS DIABLO! NO RAINBOW! NEVER!, curled and stylised foliage design..) and too Lord of The Rings influenced. The inside of the cathedral/dungeon is airey and elevated, with sparce objects and huge walkways. It also looks completely uninhabited. What happened to the cramped, blood-stained and flaming pentagramm'd dungeons of the series?
Enemies have also fallen into the trap of all rpg games of late- they're almost all grey-blue undead, with the exception of comical, obese zombies that release terribly animated, fixed group formation floating land eels (Same designer who made the rainbow?); the charging beasts (which I quite liked); the thousand pound cartoon zombie and the end boss.
More fire and blood! Less middle earth, more middle-ages-europe!
Hear it Blizzard, please. We want to see a respectful game, a serious and classy game.
Do NOT influence from Lord of The Rings !!!!
Influence from tales and books have written about SATAN by Catholic Churh at medieval !!
Create a REAL HELL GAME !!
please.. please do not forget, Diablo means Satan in spanish
listen guys the 3D models used to make the characters in Diablo2 were not the best. That being said they are also definitely not copies of the WoW characters. I happen to like the way the characters look in D3.
What everyone is getting caught up on is the fact that right now in D3 there are no shaders/bump maps
What is need is this:
1. Multiple shaders for different materials to give it that "real" feel.
2. Bump/normal maps for surfaces so they look like distinguished from on another other than just color and the texture painting. (i.e. the surfaces has tactile qualities). in the game. This means all the surfaces look the same and have a "painted" quality. Believe me, if that barbarian had some sort of specular shader on his skin and a dull metal shader on his armor you would be saying how awesome it looks. What gives everything that flat painted look is simple: One shader foreverthing with one kind of texture map that only contains the painted/drawn information.
Are you all like Howey from the Benchwarmers?! "SUN BAD SUN BAD!" Light exists even when demons walk the planet. Yes it's a darker game but when you're outside the sun shines and maybe if there's water in the air there just might be a RAINBOW! You can't deny color just because you want to seem like a badass playing a dark game. The game can be dark and still look like a turd. I'm not playing DBZ Budokai I'm playing an RPG.
In my oppinion the graphics are amazing and beautiful, when seeing the gameplay video i had to show friends, and now i got about 10+ people waiting for it to come out, and these guys ARE NOT die hard Diablo fans, but just seeing that video has sparked excitment.
In my oppinion dont make this anymore gothic than it already is, this is diablo 3, not diablo 1 or 2, but diablo 3. Dont make this game emo.
Ok, do not insert realism, but drop the funniness and add the f(n coolness and seriousness.. Its just fine for me. Characters are not dark&cool as D2's.
barbarian's face is look like my dead grand-grandfather. He could be a psycho like d2's. yes, i say it again and again, where is Necro? i want him back.
Hello, I voted it needs to be more darker, with more black and red colors. Simply because I think its straying a little more towards the Warcraft series than the Diablo series, it needs to be more Gothic. I know that people complained about Diablo II even losing some of it's Gothic-ness too, from Diablo I. I know that some of this cannot be helped, with 3D and 2D animations as such, Back in the day being limited tools and colors to create the game, But I think that Diablo should look more like it does in Diablo II, whilst still keeping its Next-Gen 3D Compatibility, Here is what I mean. Check out these two images.
Oh, and Blizzard, Stray off the Rainbows and the Sun in the outdoor environment please, It really makes it too... Happy. I mean it's Diablo here!
And Diablo II was renowned for having millions of corpses scattered across the ground, once an epic fight took place. I saw in the trailer that the corpses started dissapearing. I know that there has to be a cap on corpses per fight, Otherwise even the top-end computers will lag from all the corpses LOL! But it would be better if all the corpses from one fight stayed on the map for.. 5 minutes. There has to be a clip, Yes, But try make the clip fit into the battles that Diablo III Brings, Not half the ghouls dissapearing after the battle is over. Oh and it would be cool if we could decapitate monsters, slice off arms and legs, Like in 300! If you were fighting a ghoul, you slice off his leg and he still tries to kill you on the ground, chomping at your feet! Kinda like a mix between The 300, and Monty Python; The Holy Grail's Black Knight. I mean, I want a ghoul to literally be fighting to its last moment. Bleeding on you if it has to. You chop off a leg, It claws at you, You chop off its arms, it bites at you, You chop off its head, Then it STAYS DOWN! Lol. That would seem very Diablo-y and Demonic!
So yeah Blizzard, Basically more Red and Black colors, Stay off the Green and Blue! Make it really FEEL Demonic, You know? Stay Diablo, Not Warcraft!
Thanks for reading Blizzard! I hope this feedback helps!
I nearly had a heart attack when I found out that Diablo 3 was announced.
We all knew it was coming it was just a matter of when...
I LOVE all of the diablo games.
I Joined to post on this thread alone as well.
First off I would like to thank the blizzard team for everything they have done.
I am mainly concerned about the art and graphics so far.
one day I decided to buy world of warcraft to see what all the commotion was about.
I played it for about a week and never logged on again.
i.m.o. it was far too cartoony in all aspects I did not enjoy the game wasn't worth my money.
in my own OPINION I believe diablo 3 shares WAYYYYY WAYYY too much in common with world of warcraft and i'm concerned.
If I want cartoon small icon weapons and items along with the world looking like cartoons I would play world of warcraft.
I am just glad there is some what of a commotion because its apparent that the fans are wanting some sort of change whether it be drastic or slight modifications
regardless I hope blizzard listens to us because we are the fans we create their checks we run the show its for the people not for blizzard so please take that into account and please listen.
also on my behalf i'm am tired of reading people posting hate messages because MAJORITY of the fans are swaying towards darker realistic diablo 2 feel.
One more thing.
I am extremely upset with the weapons lighting up.............
seriously come on man? since when do weapons glow an aura of blue....
Yes pallys did have glowing auras BUT THEY were MAGICAL barbarians have no magical traits I am just upset because it is 100% like w.o.w.
d00d leave the weapons the way they should look
as WELL AS THE INVENTORY ICON
NOOOOOOOO
don't make the STUPID w.o.w. weapon icon B.s. Business
Yeah, of course it looks great. It passes with flying colors! They did a nice job with it.
But the real question here is if Blizzard can make it better than how it is, would you want that?
I don't know about 'Gothic' looking or shades of gray... I agree that the art style doesn't have to be all gray without color... but the colors I'm seeing in the screenshots do not have that much contrast.
And yadda yadda, we know Diablo just got announced. We know Diablo is in its "early stages." We just want to give Blizzard feedback and hopefully they can make good ol' Diablo theme style again.
Diablo I, and II had a distinct feel from other games. If you ever played any fear-inducing games, they all follow similar tones of colors and art style. Realism in Diablo III seems kind of lacking. Old, dirty, ancient, worn away zombies/clothing/color/background/texture, believe it or not, look worn away... not colorful, if you get my drift. Diablo III looks sparkling clean, like everything just came out of the box.
I'd like to say again the environment really needs to reflect some of the dynamic lights in the game. Lighting needs more work on overall... because maybe thats the real reason why it looks so... desaturated for me. When the necro-like class throws the firebomb, the environment seems to not reflect any of that lighting at all... and it really subtracts from realism. hah.
Ok, in short, too cartoony. Too airy and wispy, like it was airbrushed for a fantasy based dream sequence. Too many flashy glowys, green glowing stones, barb skills, etc. Not enough detail in textures.
I have given this much thought. I can understand the basis of the colour and, no, I am not afraid of it. One problem I have is that the story is based 20 years after the Worldstone shattered. 20 years is not a long time. It is not long enough for years of ruin and demon warfare to turn Tristram into a fairy land - let alone build a new massive cathedral with no residents! It took decades for Diablo to originally corrupt the town of Tristram and their king. Decades on earth is a pittance to Hell.
But, I can understand Blizzard's desire for colour, to progress darker and darker as the game - and the plot - unfolds. I applaud that. However, the pictures that have been shown of the barb and the gargoyle statue thing are laughable. That is nothing like walking into the Act 1 Jail in D2, getting some dark mood music and seeing torture rooms, etc. There's a green glowing stone, with a barb doing glowing attacks, with glowing health orbs, then there's a talk sequence with Cain that looks really cartoony and bad. I mentioned before that the witchdoctor animation reminds me of a Nintendo character, rather than the killer artwork on the site. That is what worries me. The concept artwork is wicked, but the execution in animation is lacking the same feeling.
I bought the collectors of Warcraft 3 many years ago and was sadly disappointed with it. Quite cartoony and not was I was expecting. Because of that, I never tried World of Warcraft, nor did I want to. I don't like it. At all. And I don't want to see Diablo 3 venture down that same path... I will be a very sad panda. Yes, I will likely still pre-order a collectors edition and.. perhaps the gameplay will be as good or better than D2. But still... not the same.
I think that this will not be settled until Blizzard releases a screen or demo of a later dungeon... or more refined images. I will wait and see, but the time to voice our opinions is definitely now. We have waited so long, we all want it to be perfect.. we are the Diablo fans after all.
Alright guys! everyone that has a problem with the Diablo3 graphics as is, I believe I know why.

No-one is complaining about the graphics, buddy, you may want to re-read the thread. We're unhappy with the art-style of Diablo III, not the graphics; two very different things.
Actually, I think everyone's complaints can be solved with texture sharpness, shaders, bump maps, and well, contrast. the art and everything else can stay the same. Other than that I'm happy with the way the game looks.
I'm with you on this one. Baba has always been my preferred class, and I like the idea of my guy being covered in massive furs and big armors and a skull on his head, to go with his two glowy, shiny axes of "+15 face smash!"...

Dear god no! please no realism. realism always ends up looking bad and out of place. No, Oblivion did not succeed at realism.
barbarian's face is look like my dead grand-grandfather. He could be a psycho like d2's. yes, i say it again and again, where is Necro? i want him back.

Check my suggestion on how the Diablo 3 Art Should Look Like http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=267246&postcount=516
2. The graphics are amazing a single screenshots belongs in the Louvre.
3. Cheer the f%^k up emos, go outside and compare it to the darkness of your pathetic single beded hole of a bedroom if you want dark.
4. Great work Blizzard keep it up!
