Everyone needs to calm down, the game is not coming out for a while, Blizzard has plenty of time to pollish everything and render everything correctly. I am willing to wait as long as I have to for a fully completed game with no cut corners.
Yeah, after watching the gameplay video over and over.. they are doing such a great job right now. The finished product is going to own so much. I think people need to realize that it is so far off, they are probably going to add so much other things - just from watching some of the spell effects, the color they used would never be in a Warcraft game, so that's a good start. All in all though.. all of this may in the end direct the art team a little towards the diablos of the past, though.
That was actually my attempt at suggesting we end the argument, you'd have known that if you had read on. Besides, he caused this little fiasco, and I'm the one to blame? Right'o.
right here is instigating. you could have left my post be and not try to attack me now. You know damn well you were not trying to end the argument. You insulted him at least twice in that post alone.
You have to remember that this is the first Diablo game that's actually been designed by Blizzard. You have different people, different styles, different philosophies. You also have to be tolerant of the changes that come and of the features that find themselves in place. So far, it seems that Diablo 3 expands upon all that was in the previous titles while improving upon it with what Blizzard has learned from their other games.
Will it have similarities to World of Warcraft in some ways? Yes, because WoW has proven itself and is very successful. Will it still be Diablo? Yes, because Blizzard has proven themselves time and time again. Try to embrace the changes and adapt if you can.
That image does nothing to further the argument. Woever did these comparison photos are completely biased. They chose a similar looking orc in similar looking armor from WoW considering YOU CAN MAKE A WOW CHAR LOOK LIKE JUST ABOUT ANYTHING with all the armor and class variations, and he also chose to put in a d2 barbarian in FULL BLACK PLATE ARMOR comparing it to an armorless D3 barb WITH TAN LEATHER AND MOSTLY SKIN showing. If you do think this is a good comparison shot, you really do need to think for a second or get your eyes checked.
I'm not attacking you, I'm questioning you; why are you getting so defensive? You could have left my post be aswell, but you didn't, why is that? Again, no, I was trying to end the argument, read my post again, and you'll see that. I clearly said I dislike arguing with him for the reasons I stated; you've obviously misinterpreted that as an insult when it genuinely wasn't. Also, I'd just like to point out the hilariously ironic fact that you seemed to have skimmed over the multiple insults he hurled at me way before I even deemed him unworthy of debate.
At any rate, we could go on and on and completely derail this thread, but I'd like to think I'm above that, so I'll just ignore you from now on; I implore you, do the same.
It's people like you that make me want to blow my brains out. Little immature brats who start arguments, then act like theyre above it all and act like theyre ending it just to get attention.
anyways, i vote for dashow and whatshisface back to Blizzard. anyone else agree?
I have to agree with the nay-sayers about how soon it is, and how we have seen very little of the actual game. However, I also strongly agree that the character's look too cartoonish (ie. over-sized shoulders). On the flip side however, I appreciate that the team is trying to upgrade the visual / game play aspects of the game, but a considerable amount of people who do not like World of Warcraft (as well as some players of WoW I would assume) also think they are heading in the wrong direction with the models. I personally don't expect them to turn the project around now, just to make some small changes (which would push back the release date alot further in my opinion). That being said, I would still but the game with the current art style, and I would just suck it up, no matter how large the gap there is between this installment, and the previous ones.
ANY 3D rendering of characters will be bitched about for being 'Wowish'. I've looked at that barbarian photo several times now, and I've come to the conclusion that there's nothing wrong with it. The reason it looks 'Wowish' is because it's in ... um ... 3D you idiots. You see, in 3D, things have this cool thing called 'depth'. 'omfg oversized should pads'. Hello, what do you want them to be, flat? It's made from meatl and is there for protection, of course it's going to be big.
Some of our fans would be more content with flat 2D, at least then they wouldn't have 'wowish' to complain about. Of course, then, they'd just bitch about it not utilizing modern equipment 'omg y is it 2d!?1?!"
The only thing the things in this game needs is more detail, and better textures.
When I first heard it was announced I was stoked. When I saw the screen shots i got a bit worried. I Usually trust blizzard to create fantastic games but has all their work on WoW or Starcraft II altered their sense? My main statement is, If i wanted to play WoW, Warcraft 3 or starcraft II I would, but I expect by the time Diablo III is polished and released for it to have a uniquely DIABLO feel. PLEASE DELIVER THAT TO US BLIZZARD!
listen guys the 3D models used to make the characters in Diablo2 were not the best. That being said they are also definitely not copies of the WoW characters. I happen to like the way the characters look in D3.
What everyone is getting caught up on is the fact that right now in D3 there are no shaders/bump maps in the game. This means all the surfaces look the same and have a "painted" quality. Believe me, if that barbarian had some sort of specular shader on his skin and a dull metal shader on his armor you would be saying how awesome it looks. What gives everything that flat painted look is simple: One shader foreverthing with one kind of texture map that only contains the painted/drawn information.
What is need is this:
1. Multiple shaders for different materials to give it that "real" feel.
2. Bump/normal maps for surfaces so they look like distinguished from on another other than just color and the texture painting. (i.e. the surfaces has tactile qualities).

I do trust Blizzard. I think they will make an amazing game that will be enjoyable by all fans of the series. However, my personal preference is a darker and more gothic environment.
Personaly I have played the hell (no pun intended) out of Diablo I and Diablo II. I have played Star Craft and Warcraft II, III. and so on. With this in mind each of the art forms of the previous games were different. Warcraft being cartoony, SC being more realistic but still Sci-fi. and Diablo being very dark, with lots of gothic and gore. I personaly Like the nice contrasts to light and dark that are portraid so far in Diablo III. The thing that upsets me is that it looks like a Warcraft game done Diablo style. I Will definately buy it (even as is), however I do not want a warcraft looking game with a Diablo title. So less warcraftish looking, and i would try to add some of the gothic feel of the previous Diablo games.

Necromancer must be back. I want to play with Necro at D3. Colors can stay as it if Necro comes back ; D
i need a cool an'dark character .. witch doctors and the other dark ones are cartoonish.

if you were having fun organizing you stash... I don't know what to say, but man that's crazy.
yes they are, and they look boring.
Do me a favor.
Go to your programs.
Open up Diablo 2.
Play some Diablo 2.
Put some armor on that has 'shoulders' to it.
Compare it to the 3D version above.
IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING, ONLY IN 2D.
But, my bad, it's "wowish". Looks like WoW ripped off Diablo 2. Further proof of you all lacking that squishy thinking thing in your head.
