Why do you all care so much about that "loading d2 characters into d3"!?
Maybe if he now played the demo it was just a feature in the demo so demo testers could test the chars with good items and high level etc!
If they did bring the old characters they way they were, into D3, it would not be a great game due to the fact that you will start the game with a level 89 character. That would be less challenging then starting a new game. If they have the feature of transferring d2 characters into d3, that would surely be the outcome.

They could make it so that when you transfer your character into the game, you get a bonus instead of playing with them. For instance, lets say you transfer in a high level necromancer or something. Later in the game, you could get a necro specific quest from your original character. Each of the original 7 characters would have a unique quest and they could make it so that you would have had to at least beat diablo 2 with that character to recieve it. I think it would be an awesome idea.

umm....+0 for your idea.
Having that idea incorporated in d3 would throw off the story and gameplay. Not to mention all new diablo fans that start playing d3 right off the bat would be lost and confused, loosing interest in d3. Blizzard knows this and would not do it.

i think that it would make it harder for those who start new, those that do not have the benefits of good characters in diablo 2. also, how would that work with the chronomancer?? wouldnt that be able to lag the game?? i dont know how that would work, since everyone would be slowed down and make it way harder for them to fight him.
arent warlocks like male witches?? thats what i grew up knowing. earth would be a great element to control though. imagine a game where you can raise the ground your enemy stands on, and then its a lot more interactive and harder for duels, not just the same thing over and over again. for pvp duels, i think that the first person view would be kinda cool.
So....if I were a blizzard employee given whats already been put on the table, this is how I would make the game:
Skills can be assigned to A,D,S,F simillar to nox.
Classes: Fighters name changed to Brawler. Brawler Skills: Offensive Stance: Increases attack rating and adds attack damage.
Defensive Stance: Increases defense and chance to block.
(each stance is an entirely different stance, not the same animation. once activated skill stays on until its turned off. only one stance can be in use at a time.)

Say, a prequel really would be nice. Instead inventing new magic stones and other stuff you need to save the world, Blizzard could use all the stuff that has been mentioned about the history of the world of Diablo. There's a huge amount of lore in the manual of Diablo 1 and even the books of Knaak, which are considered canon by Blizzard, could serve as inspiration. By the way, Knaak's new trilogy is also set in the past, not? I've got the first book here and it's situated 3.000 years before Tristram.
I'd really like to play in a world in which the Horadrim is hunting down some Prime Evils and it'd be cool to actually notice something of this whole Sin War, apart from the fact that you, on your own, are fighting all of hell and are sometimes being backed by some cowardly angels. And what about the battles in hell in which the three Prime Evil where cast out to the mortal plane? It'd be nice to see all their minions fighting one other in the mortal plane, instead of happily getting along which eachother. It'd give it all a more hellish and chaotic touch.
I'd rather like to see a prequel based on already existing Diablo lore than a game based on a crapload of new lore.
with that being said about a possible prequal...I think a decent idea would be to have the first intro movie in the past...show the Horadrim capturing the prime evils...BUt show somthing go wrong somthing that no body see's/notices. Somthing so grave it effects the world of sanctuary today
Exp Baal upon being captured releases his soul to a hordrim member and takes on the life of him untill he can esscape and we have fought the wrong/fake baal in Lod i dunno maybe somthing along those lines just an idea
You know, I hadnt really payed much attention to this, but Ryans claims seem very fake to me. First of all the scorceress already used staffs, some of which were wooden, plus a staff fits in more with a mage-type character. If the fighter is the only one who can use staffs then what weapon will the warlock use? The fighters attack skills he listed envolve fists: Multi-Punch and Fists of Fire. If the fighters special weapon is a staff then why does he use these fist and punching attacks? His skills dont envolve staffs whatsoever. I thought Mallets were already in diablo in the form of either mauls or hammers (one of these i saw was called a mallet in its weapon name.) Short Blade? isnt that a Short Sword, which is one of the first weapons you obtain in diablo 2?. And the character = Monster Tamer? What? im sure blizzard has clever people working on the game and they name a class Monster Tamer? I want you to name me another character class from the diablo series that has two seperate words for his/her name. C'mon the skill "Glare" is from pokemon.
Situation 1: Ryan is lying. What a jackass!
|
*Situation 1.b: Ryan works for blizzard, and is generating hype for the game. Truth and lies do not matter. His mission is attention. He has accomplished his task.*
Situation 2: Ryan's contacts are lying. Shit on a stick! No one will believe this excuse even if it were true. It is impossible to prove.
Situation 3: Ryan is telling <50% truth. Nice estimation!
Situation 4: Ryan is telling >50% truth. His sources were reliable.
*Situation 1.b could also be applied to Situation 3 and 4.
Therefore, I would say there is a 60% chance ryan works for Blizzard. Spreading true and false rumors to generate hype. There is also a 20% chance that Ryan is lying himself, or his contacts are lying. Finally a 10% chance Ryan is telling the truth.
Based on these percentages, When Blizzard does release information about D3, I am going to bet that 10% of Ryans information will be accurate.
I think bits and pieces are accurate. I would say some spells might be true. The whip weapon is true. About 5% - 10% of the story is true.
So, why do I think ryan works at blizzard and will revealed about 10% of truth??????
THINK ABOUT IT!
There is very intricate information here. Classes, Spells, but most importantly, the story. That is one crazy story. A story so crazy, so insane, that it just might be believable. Why... because a Blizzard employee wrote it. I wouldnt be suprised if that was the first part of the first draft of the D3 story.
Ryan joined in October of 06, he gained a nice post count to get credibility, and the posted this thread when the time was right.
Like it or not, Blizzard, as well as other companies have leak schedules to generate hype. This was a strategic move by Blizz. They wanted some hype going into the holiday season and the new year. Making gamers anxious of what is in store for 2007.
Blizzard said there will be 3 big annoucements in 07.
1. Diablo 3
2. Starcraft 2
3. World of Warcraft: Expansion 2
Anyways, this is the most logical conclusion. Ryan works for Blizz. But then again, maybe I do too...!?

good points
now i dont want to build this site up any more than i have to, but i searched around and some of the ideas people here have come up with seem the most plausible of all the ideas ive seen here and on other sites.
but lets think semi logically, assuming you choose to believe someone, who would you rather believe a site called Diablo3.com, a site that caters to covering the third installment, or a site that primarily covers diablo 1 and/or 2, with a small page for diablo 3?
think i would go with diablo3.com (even if i was a new comer), whether or not what they say is the truth.
but back to General Ryan's Info, i dont think there is really anyway to prove what he has said is fact, so id rather just discuss it, share thoughts on this "info", (whether or not its is real), we have other threads for flaming, you wanna flame do it in there.
monster tamer, sounds like the beast master class from DND, a class which cant use metal weapons, only wooden ones which includes bows
dont really like the idea of a chronomancer. Templar sounds cool. it is as i predicted (assuming that it is fact) a more religious type char. it is about time for a game about heaven and hell the lack of religious chars was rather strange, almost to the point of annoyance, i like relgious chars they are so cool. (DND has a whole host of these chars but i suppose that is because there is a whole lot of gods to follow)

All the classes are believable except one. The Chronomancer. I have a hard time seeing how slowing down time would work in multiplay. The only way I can see it is, in that perticular zone, the time is slowed. Or, if it is like a necromancers curse, where only the targeted area is slown down.
thats my thoughts too, usually you just have one or two spells that affect time not 30 or so.
-time stop: bring time virtually to a stop, for you enemies not you
-slow time: slows time
and i suppose there would be a spell that speeds up time but thats about it.
a fighter, hmm in DND fighter just meant warrior, they could still use heavy armor and big weapons and the like, wonder if they will be similar?

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Angus the peasant saw the necromancer raising the rotting remains and ran away. Since then he told the tale of how he narrowly escaped the necromancer he called "juicy bones".
very good points sacaba (sorry if i murdered your name) but yes, it would be a very clever business ploy indeed, one i hadnt considered. companies have done it in the past, i just cant think of one ><
The only hole that Elfen pointed out yet that I'm not aware of is, Why is www.diablo3.com a fan site? Was this domain purchased instantly after diablo2 came out? Has blizzard attempted to get it? Those I wont argue with.

Anyways, how about the other characters that ryan has mentioned. I personally like the idea of the templar and warlock.
Templar would be a nice carry-on from the Paladin.
The Warlock that controls the earth it seems...would be interesting to build.
Skills can be assigned to A,D,S,F simillar to nox.
Classes:
Fighters name changed to Brawler.
Brawler Skills: Offensive Stance: Increases attack rating and adds attack damage.
Defensive Stance: Increases defense and chance to block.
(each stance is an entirely different stance, not the same animation. once activated skill stays on until its turned off. only one stance can be in use at a time.)
Haymaker: Strong meele atttack, has Knockback.
Combo: Attacks multiple enemies (Multiple attack animations used.)
Avoid: (passive) Gives chance to avoid Projectiles.
Straight Kick: Does Damage to opponets Stamina instead of their health
( Gotta go, I will finish this tommorrow.)
