What about leaderboards? That's a type of endgame which also requires loot hunting. Then again, I'm unsure about how you define "loot hunting". If you mean targeting a specific monster which drops a specific item no one else does then Diablo III doesn't have much loot hunting part from Machines.
0/10 nice try but you debunked your own thread.
Trading is not an end game.
And we do have Loot Hunting, the fact your pretending it does not ether means you don't play the game or your fishing for bites.
And lastly PVP is not an end game, it is just a mode which allows people to attack each other and cry that they have better gear / more paragon levels or they are OP.
End game is farming for exp/loot/crafting mats/gems, and fighting over leader board spots, which yes is part like PVP, but the difference is the leader baord system is more balanced because it is based off of PVE not PVP.
D3 has a short loot hunting, as there is no enough variety in itemisation and the best way to have loot is just use the cube recipe or kadala, and nor of them is pleasant.
Trading can be endgame, if there is enough item variety so that it's not just looking for 2-3 mandatory rare pieces per class.
Leaderboards is pvpve or something similar, not pvp. And it's just about spending time farming pl, not players' skills.
about loot tables: I think that the actual drop system is not bad.
what is bad is the poor itemisation that at each patch forces players to use one or two builds per class...after copypaste cookiecutter builds and getting that few gear required, it's all about your pl.

So I take it u have never played D2 then, because D2 was the same. and so is every over loot based game. You google best build/set up and you follow it. I could not even play POE till I had to look up a strong build to level with.
I can tell your new to these types of games. or ur trying too hard.
I didn't make any reference to other games, saying it's better or worse.
Probably you're right that it's a common issue in this genre of games.
I played tl2, van helsing, tq...but not d2. these are single player games, without bnet or any other form of "competitive" gameplay, so it was different
But as you quoted poe, i played it a few hundreds hours: yes, the endgame is getting to the top level, and only some players can do it because of maps, exp loss, etc. The gameplay is clunky and don't like it so much, so because of many factors i quitted it.
Still, the build/skills system is interesting, there is a reason to play new leagues..and a char can be considered at the endgame in the 80 range, when if you don't want to struggle for 100, can start to work towards a build and minmaxing, as there is a wide choice.
Trading is slow and "old" as there is not an ah that could make it much easier....but still has an appeal to many.
endless pl does not address the issue of the longevity, it's just repetition...numbers.

I'm saying you are not making reference, I em, for it was there to point out how all loot based games have cookie cutter builds.
D3 does have end game content, BUT! that does not mean D3 does still need more. Over all the simple reason D3 in its state can not have a AH is because of the lack of number of different sets and normal legendary in the game. Once D3 have more class sets, and normal legendary & new gear slots been what ever blizzard wish's to call them. The the game would be ready for a AH, the game would still need some other work in adding more affix's and class, but over all D3 has been going in a good path.
Some people don't always like my point of view, and that is mainly because I point out goods and bads to even games that I love, and yes I love D3 as a game, but it does still need work.
I wish i understood these idiotic rant threads. Sadly, i do not.
You have a problem with the game? Don't play it!
You want the game to be anything else, learn programming & Art Design and make a game of your own.
Untill then, stfu and be happy with what Blizzard is giving you.
As if Blizzard giving a flying f*** about your displeasure...
Mod edit: infracted. Putting your point this way doesn't make it suddendly better.
I think there is a difference between no endgame, and an end game that could use some additions.
There is certainly an endgame in D3. For some it's great, and for other's, it may be a but lackluster.
Things like trading and pvp *can* be part of an endgame, but aren't required.
For me, I'd just like to see them build on what they've been doing. 2.3 brought a reason to do regular rifts besides grift keys, and a reason to do bounties up until a certain point. I think continuing to encourage players to do different objectives is the best way to extend the endgame.
These type of subjects only leave some of us to realize, you just started playing?
Let's take a step back to release. Apparently you either forgot or were NOT there to know better. Act1 Inferno was our "endgame". To beat Ghom was your main achievement (Bragging rights). The so called endgame back then was this thing we called AUCTION HOUSE. To some of us, not anyone that agrees with the OP, but some of us, we remember when there wasn't no game at all, let alone this endgame you speak of. No rifts, no bounties, no paragon, NO THING. There was maybe 50 legendaries total.
In today's game there is more "Endgame" than anything we once knew. Imagine only running the act you've made it into as your endgame. Seriously, run act 3 for 1000 hours then come back and make your so called points. As some of us see it, your point is old by many years. In fact if you ever played d2 you would see that there was never a endgame in the diablo series. You simply just grind forever.
Back to my statement I've made many times. If you can not be accountable for your own unhappiness, that's not Blizzard or the Developers fault. It's yours, you can't be content. You are the one finding reasons to dislike the game.. Is it not also you that decides to stay? Is it not you that's unhappy? Is it not you that posts on forums about it? Here's a tip. If you, yes you, do the same thing, you will always have and feel the same way. Don't expect things to change because you're acting up, expect them to change because you did something to change YOUR situation. Everyday you decide to login, it's YOUR fault.. Get over it and do something that makes you happy.

No, I've never played D2 seriously, just did one run of the first two difficulties to know the story background.
I'm here on d3 since vanilla... and act 3 runs, and ghom farming, and RMAH, and bad droprates, and repairs that were more expensive than what you earned from the runs done in an afternoon.
Yes, RoS brought some good improvements...and some other issues.
Nobody said it's now worse than before, but still the endgame is not what I'd like to play to.
Grind forever? yes, of course diablo is a game of grind. It' s an arpg, where clickclickclick-loot is the core of the gameplay, Still, when d2 launched it was a different world than it is now. Grind can exist the same, but there could be some improvements in it to make it less brainless and boring. For me (and some other people you can read in the forums) there could still exist some QoL and gameplay addictions to make the game more suitable to my desires. As said elsewhere, a cap to PL, "diminishing returns" to stats improvements, something to do in the endgame different than just farming exp.
Nothing ensures me that everybody will agree, or that blizz would ever do anything to follow these suggestions, but still here is my opinion. You're free to disagree. It's not a game for hardcore grinders only. It's a game for everybody who blizzard wants to sell the game too.
And blizzard knows well who is the larger population who brings income, so time will tell.
Get over it and do something else? already done. Stopped at 650pl time ago, no season, uninstall and just play a bit on the ps4 (as it was a gift from friends.) from time to time.
Consider that the loot and build variety this way is a lot because of the lack of trading, inflated drop rates, and now the cube. Very easy to get. If legendary and set items would be much more rare, players would try to take advantage of everything for longer period, while working toward something that would be the endgame build. Now there's no such thing. What you see in the guides and leaderboards is pretty much the top and the basic gear for every player to start farming xp. xp > gear.
There's nothing wrong with googling a build and working toward it. That's how you learn. There's no point to reinvent the wheel, and there's often room for improvement. The question is how long it's gonna take? In d3 any build exact copy from the guide: from nothing in 3-10 days max. Well it's probably gonna be shitty rolled, non ancient gear, but at this point the game is over, as far as loot concerned, and you can turn on the bot just get keys and few more percentages or quit.
And what's wrong with the story mode the way it used to be.. at least you had some feeling of progress and goal - to kill diablo on inferno/mp10 w/e. Unlocking new areas, monsters, bosses... the way it is in any normal game. You also had much more consistent challenge. "Seriously, run act 3 for 1000 hours"? For gear farming could still mix in the rifts system. Just without greater rifts infinite scaling, and bounties. Like.. this worries you, really? Be fucking open minded...
They seems trying to introduce more challenges outside of getting greater rift leaderboard ranks. Hopefully one day conquests and set dungeons will be more significant than greater rift levels. But as long as infinite greater rift levels and paragons exist, it's not gonna happen I guess, since it's the only way to show off your mighty character... paragon level. Well getting the perfect rift and lags also plays the biggest role, not even your gear or level.
What is endgame? Does a game which you complete lack endgame? Can endgame be completed or is its activity's unending? You can always grind exp, you can always push leaderboards or hunt for the perfect loot. What disqualifies those activity's to be endgame? I'm very curious about this.
Well What a lovely thread to my my first post (in quite some time on) Diablo 3 just like diablo 2 has been a loot hunting game. The game ends when you get bored of it. I've abandoned the notion of any sort of worthwhile PVP for this game but again diablo 2's PVP was driven by the community not the developers. If you want an ''end game'' such as you suggested go back to WoW. I absolutely hated Diablo 3 when it first came out due to the terrible imbalance, bugs, RMAH, AH and last but not least.. Jay Wilson. Today Diablo 3 is worlds apart from what is what and compared to the ''updates'' you were given in diablo 2 they've given us MUCH MUCH more with Diablo 3 and RoS.
I'm okay with people complaining about a lack of end game, but only if some valid and well thought out ideas on how to expand the end game are included in that complaint.
I think the constant addition of new and improved content has been great. I play, enjoy for a while, get bored, take a break and return refreshed for the new content next season. I'm still excited for every new season and the changes that come along with it.

Unlimited exping is not endgame.
Loot hunting, trading, pvp should be.
