as a reply to Siaynoqs last post, i do agree that most of the things we disagree on are based on personal taste.
But on the Diablo 1 weapons, you only saw a small effect (like the fiery hit or the electrical charge). The arrows are a different matter since you couldnt fire too many at the times and projectiles (and spells) always looked different in that game.
How the elemental enchantment looked on the game looked good to me back then. But not anymore. Things must evolve (at least thats what i think) and its more natural to have elemental enchanted weapons look like they're enchanted. If they could, enchant wouldnt look just red but fiery in Diablo II. But back then they couldnt. Same goes with any kind of weapon, really.
everything else is up to everyone's taste. We could keep disagreeing forever without anyone ever changing mind. Maybe its because i'm used to having weapons that glow (from many games) but the way it looked on the gameplay video it didnt look bad at all to me.
Well, I could say this is a valid argument for something like a simulation/ fantasy hybrid where it would be better to have magic appear more subtly, but Diablo is supposed to be fast-paced, in-you-face kind of action. Big, flashy spells, SFX, and weapons are what it's all about.
Given, I personally do not care for it, but realistically, for the intents of the game, it makes sense to me and I'll acknowledge that.
The weapon glow affects are to bright for my taste. I played World of warcraft for years with high-end weapon enchantments, AKA - mongoose on both my rogues fists, daggers, +15 agil.ect.ect - And after awhile it just looks like crap. You cant see what your weapon really looks like and enemies know exactly what kind of enchantment you have in PVP so its useless trying to get some sort of edge on a weapon enchantment unless it leaves no glow.
A better idea would be:
Make it so that when you socket a sword or shield with a rune or gemstone you can actually SEE them on the sword/shield instead of having a giant glow affect. For me that would make it much cooler. Looking at a bunch of runes going down your sword or some gems on the hit would be better than a giant glow affect.
Seriously though. Imagine playing in a game and everyone in your room has huge glow affects like in that video. For me, that would be so bright It would be like flash bangs going off everytime there was a battle lol. Color and affects are good. But when you go overboard like they did in the gameplay trailer its just WAY to much.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.

Can't do that, Diablo would be ripping off Hellgate: London, am I right?

Wow, that's such an over-exaggeration it's not even funny. I can image it and it looks fine on my end because I don't over-exaggerate the fact to cause a useless debate.

How is that an over-exaggeration if you go into this "dark part of the game" that they say is in diablo 3 (which i still dont believe). And then theres a party of 8 people with giant weapon glows swinging away at monsters with light tracers everywhere.
Not like flash bangs? yeah maybe not THAT bright, Neon lines and bright neon explosions everywhere? Pretty much. That would make it more hard to see "monsters" in my opinion, from what the article says that is "we wanted to make it easier to see what your looking at". How does this guy have the balls to even say that with how bright those weapon glows are lol? Cant even see the weapons...

There won't be "light tracers everywhere", it's that simple hence why IT'S AN OVER-EXAGGERATION.

Good thing they don't care for your opinion, or we'd REALLY need those "high pitched glows" to see anything. Actually, let's just get rid of magic all together because light shouldn't exist in the realm of Diablo.
Hmmm, I wonder if the elementalist will be able to make the game really bright regardless of where you are.... probably would if they made the game really dark. Just imagine 8 sorcs fighting in a pitch black cave on D3. Epileptics wouldn't be able to do shit. Well, their char may squirm a bit or randomly run around casting spells....

Sure, magic from a caster would make things bright. Should a barbarians weapons do the same constantly...? I dont see the logic or the reason for it. It looks bad.

Sure, magic weapons. You know, you wield them and gain magical strength. Does that mean they should be glowing with the power of Rainbow expectations? Not in my opinion.

AGAIN, OVER-EXAGGERATION, they don't glow with the power of "rainbows". That's all you're really good at, exaggerating what's not even there, why do you bother? You just look like a zealot.
shelledfade, your kinda exaggerating it again.
Maybe you didnt watch the trailer in high-res yet?
But still, your totally right. The effects make it harder to see the weapon and are kinda too bright.
They better make those effects smaller but cooler.
.
I watched the high res trailer... many times..

Our current president had that attitude, look what his legacy is.
Our president was on internet forums?
Over confidence is the rot.

explain how this is possible?

They're magic weapons.
If magic spells = bright
Magic weapons = bright
They could do some toning down but come on.

I think that's his reflection off the water behind him, cause his head is like that too.
