Well, I'm currently 1/2 way through Act 2 in Hell and I'm having a hard as fuck time. Normal mobs aren't really a problem but elite packs (not all, but some) just annihilate me. I'm lvl 57 with decent gear, so I don't know what's wrong. By the way, I'm duel wielding.
I'm in about the same place and a DH, 20k hp and 5.5k dps. Certain champ packs are just no fun at all lmao =D You're not really doing anything wrong, it's about gear and skill, and skills. The game is still so new that we are all on our own as far as help goes.

Yeah I guess that's true. Right now it just feels like a very tough learning experience. It's frustrating but I suppose I'm happy that it's difficult not even 1/2 way through Hell.

I agree. At first I nerdrage the invincible minions / jailer / mortar, but then I think about it and I'm stoked hell alone is this hard =P

Yeah, I just want to progress....
I know the people who are clearing Inferno are doing so without killing (probably) a SINGLE elite pack, but I still want to be able to do some raping on these elite bitches,
I solo'd all of hell on my WD. It took about ten to fifteen hours and it was horribly not fun. The only gear I used was self-found. I used pets and really only used Flaming Dart and Firebomb. :x...

PS: I got one shot by everything.
That.... sounds TERRIBLE. Also, red pandas are so cute!

Everyone who is having problems, have you tried putting on a shield and a 1h? I kind of alternate between "the dodge route" (FoT 16% dodge, CS+20% dodge, Mantra of E, Guardian's Path + 2h) and slapping on a shield and some solid 1h, lately I prefer the shield because the amount of block and that extra armor just does it for me.
With the shield my attack speed goes down, I lose 15% dodge, and I can't do shit for damage....
You're having problems because you aren't geared enough. If you're in hell already you're steam rollin through the game and not farming enough.
Builds are important and some are better than others, but that won't mean jack if you're undergeared. However good you think your gear is, it's not.
Have any facts or actual numbers to back up that claim?
The logic of "well if it's hard, your gear isn't good enough" isn't really incorrect per say, it's just a bottomless argument. If you ever die someone can blankly say "your gear isn't good enough" without any info and even if it's not true you'd be hard pressed to prove it incorrect.

I'm, just gunna flat out say it... Farming gear before hell is irrelivent. You may need to if your skill level is high enough, and that may be the case with some people, but with 90% of players you are able to go through normal and nightmare without any farming at all. I've done so and so has pretty much everyone else. Farming only becomes necessary in later hell and inferno difficulties.
People that are already in Hell just play more than you... that's all there is to it.

I'm using a 1h + shield now, so there's no point in Guardian's Path. The only thing that makes me worry is now (without the Thunderclap rune in Fists of Thunder) I have no way to really chase down treasure goblins.... That, and now I only have 1 heal (from Serenity).
I've done a lot of tinkering with my build I've found that running Serenity is a must in the first place. Beyond that, I'm having a lot of success using Crippling Wave, Blinding Flash, and Conviction + Rune that drops Mobs DPS by 10%.
I'm actually using a 2hander, not even 1h\shield or dual wielding and I'm chugging through Hell without much trouble.
To be completely honest I have found that you can easily overcome challenges through skill even if you're under-geared. Like timing your blind to go off right at the last second, same thing with Serenity, and constantly dodging elemental attacks.
Also, you might have a much easier time with certain champion packs with better resistances. Arcane enchanted in particular can be a pain with low resistance. What are your resists at?
I've found that getting 2-3 pieces of gear with 15-20 resist of one kind and then using the passive that makes your best resists = to all when I encounter really hard elemental champions to make them incredibly easy.
My general MO is to run in, Cyclone strike all the mobs to me, get off one set of crippling wave, cast blind, another set of crippling wave, cyclone again, crippling. If i take too much damage during this process I cast Serenity when needed.
Well, 1 thing I'm noticing so far is that I can't generate enough spirit with just my Fist of Thunder quickly enough to cast Cyclone Strike every 2-3 seconds (to keep all that dodge bonus up & running).
I already use Serenity to dodge Frozen explosions, and the heavy cleaves, though I haven't given the Blinding Flash a try yet.
My resists are all 41 (except for poison which is at 102) and I'm guessing that's kinda low. I suppose I could get them all up to 102 with the passive.....

Well, swapped out Lashing Tail Kick out for Blinding Flash. I just fought an elite pack of those skeletons with claymores, which had Electrified Mortar Molten, (Molten being one of the worst for me, along with Fire Chains) and I killed them without dying and with a good bit of kiting but it took about 1 whole minute or 2. Working as intended?
Only adive is can give (Playing a Barb) is you will HAVE to learn to kite some off the elite packs...I'm lvl 54, 12k health and all that jaz, but my talents are defensive for survivability. So far i have had only 1 elite pack i've given up on, silly mosqitoues that are chained together, totally owned me:P But looving the difficulty...Hardest packs i found were the one in the dungeon before the Butcher. 3 Massive elites chained together spewing fire and dropping those silly purple orbs, ontop of that, each on split into 3 others ones-.-
But honestly, i bang my head against some off them for a bit, but get them down after a while with kiting and waiting for cd come back up.
So far I've given up on 2 different packs, ever;
1) Those wasps in act 2 that shoot those explosive lil' bugs, they had Horde Invincible-Minons Jailer. Pretty much went like this, I got jailed to the ground and 20 wasps surrounded me while I watched them slow-mo pull a St. Valentine's Day Massacre on me.
2) Again in act 2, the large dudes that spin around to make a whirl of blades. They had Fast Arcane-Enchanted Jailer. I don't even have to explain this one, I was in a blender of blades & laser beams......

Try using WotHF with the Spirited Salvo rune. That alone pretty much fixed all my spirit regen problems because you'll often get near a full globe every few cycles which lasts you long enough till you get the procs again.
I don't have any abilities I can really drop to put that in it's place.
Use a shield. Dont concern yourself with how long it takes you to kill things, prioritize not dying. One with everything gives psychical resist (unless this was hotfixed). Its really, really good. Gem your helmet for +% life. Farm gear, you want some +vit. Heres my build : http://us.battle.net...YXgj!ZXU!Zacbcc
It might seem weird, but try it out! Doesn't hurt.
Maintain the +15% dmg from Breath of Heaven buff all the time. Crip Wave rune + Resolve debuffs the dmg mobs can do alot. Earth Ally +% life is really good, and having an ally scales well with your MAIN SPIRIT DUMP, your mantra. The monk, imo, should be played with the spirit generator as your main attack and you spend your spirit on utility and heals etc, not damage. Blind can be swapped for Seven Sided (for the invincibility) or Cyclone (when tanking in a group). You basically use spirit to stay alive, and when thats being handled ok you dump it all into the 3 second +48% dmg taken buff from the mantra. 15% dmg dealt + 48% dmg taken by mobs makes your crip wave do pretty good damage, leaving your other skill slots and runes open for helping you not die. Again, use a shield. Dodge is ok, but it doesnt shine in a one shot environment. EDIT : Also, use templar with all the healing skills and give him good equipment. Youl want all his healing for inferno and again, he scales with your 48% dmg taken from mobs decently, even if his dmg isnt great.
I think the biggest thing is to constantly buy weapon upgrades from the AH. He bought high damage weapons, and stacked fire resist for One With Everything.
For elites, you'll have to kite. For the chainers, stay on the outside, etc.
