Do you think D3 will lose out on some people buying the game? I'm assuming that D3 will come out sometime near the end of 2011, but if it's not out before 11.11.11 it could lose some initial buyers!
Not me though.

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
Eh I forsee Skyrim being more in trouble if Diablo comes out right after it...
afterall aside from the high quality graphics... there's nothing all that impressive about what we've seen so far... hopefully the game itself outdoes the footage we've seen so far - and I expect it will - but...
Skyrim and Diablo appeal to very different RPG buyers. Skyrim is about a world and interacting with it, Diablo is abouta world and killing everything in it you see.
I imagine anyone interested in both games will buy both games... even if they wait to play Skyrim a while before buying D3. I could imagine people who are just looking for 'a game', and happen across Skyrim, and so aren't in the market when D3 comes around, but those would be few.

lol, i'll be getting both. I expect D3 to come out after skyrim, but skyrim is going to be my absolutely delicious time devouring distraction that will easily last up until the D3 launch.

I totally agree! I already pre-ordered Skyrim on Steam. I will be playing during November until Diablo III gets released on December
I don't see how this is even a question of if it comes out before then, maybe I am missing something but I don't think there is any way Diablo III will be out by the 11th of November. As to the effect I doubt it will effect much as Ardikus stated. For me personally I don't buy games that often anymore (last game I bought was Halo:Reach at launch) but I will be purchasing both Skyrim and Diablo III.
EDIT: lol a wall of posts came up while I was typing.

QFT. I suppose those who would even consider buying both, would buy both, and just invest more time in the one they enjoyed more.

It actually works out perfectly for me.
- University for the year finishes at the start of November
- Skyrim comes out, gonna play that till...
- Diablo comes out
I don't hate the elder scrolls series but I'm just not an open world kind of RPG player. I prefer a solid storyline and NPC interaction like Bioware creates. I've never ever finished an Open World RPG. But I do sink a lot of hours into them, even if they leave me dissatisfied in the end.
I've seen the 20 minutes game play demo and I don't understand the big deal about it. I have "the witcher 2" which is very much similar in a way the're both open ended. I have oblivion on xbox 360 which I only played probably less than 20 minutes of the game. I played both fallout 3 and new vegas (same developer) which i loved but skyrim will need to convince me more before buying with its original price. I'll probably only end up getting this on steam when its on sale.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
The two games are really entirely different genres. I mean, they're both fantasy ARPG's, but beyond that, the differences are enormous. I think it's like saying people won't buy x RTS because y FPS is coming out.
They're among (if not the) most anticipated games of this year. I think most people will shell out the cash for both. Play time is a different story.
I was planning on buying Skyrim to play until Diablo 3 came out, but then I heard about Dark Souls. To me Dark Souls looks like a better game than Skyrim.
I anticipate that Skyrim will come out before Diablo 3, but I don't think it will make a difference to Blizzard. Different fan base.

Totally works
Seriously, I don't understand the appeal. Everything about them is like the polar opposite of what I want from a gaming experience.
Hate the art style,
Hate the scaling,
Hate the combat,
HATE FILLS ME.

I love the Elder Scrolls games. I was mindblwon by Elder Scrolls III Morrowind when I first saw it, it's a unique franchise.
Oblivion (IV) was damn good as far as content and exploring a sandbox world goes, but it had plenty of gameplay design issues too.
Skyrim will certainly address those issues. I'm definitely buying it.

I would just buy Skyrim first and then D3 when it came out. May have to wait until next pay period but ones not gonna stop me from getting the other.
