so im having a bit of an issue making gold it would seem, im always and i mean ALWAYS broke, usually i gather + sell off rares but rarely anything AH worthy. what id like to know is generally what should i look for on rares to sell on the AH? what stats on what slots? by broke i mean never more than 4 mil on hand (unless i get lucky).... any pointers?? looking to be able to get info on gear worth about 1 mil +, what am i looking for??
These are all beaten by a long-shot by legendary/set items. More on this at the bottom.
Pick up all:
Rare gloves, jewelry, pants, 1-handed weapons. And obviously 60+ set/legendaries for either Brimstones or sales.
These usually have the best potential.
Picking up ilvl 63 rare shoulders, rare bracers and shields are completely up to you. They can still sell, but not likely unless you can get a really top-notch one.
Where is Turtel when you need him for info on max rolls per item?!
- For gloves, look for high primary stats, attack speed, crit chance, crit damage. Multiple combinations increases value; one or the other is essentially worthless. Then look for secondary stats (str for armor, dex for evasion, int for resist), as well as +armor, vitality, and all resistance. If a dex glove is in question, look for elemental resists that can cater to the monk playerbase (for One With Everything).
- For jewelry (amulets/rings), look for the same stats as gloves, but also include average damage (min-max), as well as life % and/or life on hit. Again, you want multiple combinations of trifecta (IAS/CC/CD) to go with additional stats, not one or the other.
- For pants, look for high primary stats, high vitality, armor, all resistance, and sockets. This is the only way rare pants sell nowadays; for people focused on a balance of DPS and EHP (otherwise, they will almost always go for Inna's Temperance, Depth Diggers, or Blackthorne's Jousting Mail).
- For 1-handed weapons, look for high weapon damage, crit damage and socket, first and foremost. For barb and monks, weapon DPS should be in the 900+ range, because they can be used as off-hands if necessary. For WDs and wizards, weapon DPS should be significantly higher because int classes can only use one weapon and have to prioritize high weapon damage. After CD and socket, look for bonuses such as primary stats, attack speed, life steal and/or high life on hit. Lesser stats that may or may not add additional value include life after kill, or class-specific bonuses like "increases crit chance of Energy Twister by 5%," "spirit regeneration," etc. Finally, it's preferable if weapons are of black damage, so they can be amplified by elemental bonus items (more important for wizards and WDs because of Triumvirate, Tal Rasha's Allegiance, Zunimassa's Trail; and also to an extent monks/DHs if they use items like Inna's Favor).
Other stats to look at for many armor pieces include—as I mentioned for gloves earlier—specific elemental resistances when dealing with dex, for the One With Everything monks. Pickup radius is also a deal sealer for many WDs. For wands specifically, if it rolls the above stats plus Arcane Power on crit, it will be much more valuable.
I don't pick up 2-handed weapons because Skorn basically murders all of them. 2-handed crossbows die to Manticore and regular bows simply suck.
I don't pick up boots because Ice Climbers, Immortal King's Stride, Natalya's Bloody Footprints, Zunimassa's Trail all beat them out.
I don't pick up helms because Mempo of Twilight, Inna's Radiance, Immortal King's Triumph, Natalya's Sight, Tal Rasha's Guise of Wisdom, Zunimassa's Vision, Storm Crow, Visage of Giyua, and to an extent Andariel's Visage all beat them out.
I don't pick up chest armor because Inna's Vast Expanse, Immortal King's Eternal Reign, Natalya's Embrace, Tal Rasha's Relentless Pursuit, and Zunimassa's Marrow all beat them out.
I don't pick up rare belts because The Witching Hour, Inna's Glory, and for many, Immortal King's Tribal Banding and Tal Rasha's Brace all beat them out.
I don't pick up class-specific off-hands (quivers, sources, mojos) because Dead Man's Legacy destroys all rare quivers; Triumvirate, Chantodo's Force, The Oculus, and Tal Rasha's Unwavering Glare destroy all rare sources; Thing of the Deep, UKjhskgkayuefgvkisaey Serpent, Manajuma's Gory Fetch, and Zunimassa's String of Skulls destroy all rare mojos.
...Can't think of anything else to say. Questions?
Amulets and Gloves sell for crap nowadays, people craft them buggers. except for the godly ones perhaps.
There have to be people who can help complete this list. it would be a nice referance, and perhaps less items 'get lost' at the vendor
Truth, lower-end trifecta gloves/jewelry are much cheaper.
However, my old Tal Rasha's Allegiance sold for $170 in the RMAH today, less than an hour since it was listed. I also sold my old pair of gloves for 2 billion gold.
To get an overview which slots are dominated by legendaries, this site seems might be useful (it's only based on top 5k chars for each class, but it shows the overall development quite well).

what do you exactly mean with "one or the other is essentially worthless."
its clear that an item with AS and CC and CD and with high main stat is extremely valuable, but how many out of three (AS/CC/CD) with high main stat are needed to have some value (i mean at least 500k igg)
thanks for asking answering my noob question ...
What he means is that if it JUST has CC or JUST has CD or JUST has AS its pretty much useless. You need to have, at a min, a combination of the 2 for it to even be considered worth selling. Even then if it isnt on the high side its vendor trash.
Another thing that does sell well is anything with a 10+ lvl reduction requirement. People leveling characters love these items. I sell these all the time from 500k to 10 mil depending on what it is.

pssh you covered just about all of it, however, are we going for only ilvl63 items? or will ilvl61-62 sell for a fair amount as well, not looking for anything worth 10+ mil, just the .5-5 mil bracket (currently 200k on hand -_-)
if you are using monster power, all items have the same affix ranges. base stats on armor is the base armor and base stats on weapons is damage. I would pick up all gloves, jewelry and legendaries regardless and maybe just 62/63 weapons and pants.

ah ok, im just tearing through mp1 now, 119k dps unbuffed (or so, swapping shoulders for pickup radius) 35k hp. and its a breeze. may try upping to mp2

Max rolls can be found here. Another source of info is the Diablonuts Affix DB.
