-gives the game, an END GAME. Baal runs is boring as fuck, or any other "run" for that matter. DII was dead to me when cows were made useless. Cows were the end game of DII, could drop good stuff, hard to kill, fun, and a benchmark for your char.
-makes it MUCH harder for china farmers to do endless boss runs and flood the AH. It wont be good money for them to have to send their farmers out into the world and just PLAY the game.
-bosses will still drop good stuff, but I find it 10x more fun to just log in and go "hmm I'll just do all of act 1, cuz its FUN"
I like the idea, but would tweak it just a bit. I understand that Boss runs can get boring if it is the only thing that you do, but they are still suppose to be the most epic parts of the game. They should at least have the same chance at better items. It's almost like getting punished for trying to beat the most difficult parts of the game. Why would I ever do a boss run if I don't have an equal chance at the best equipment. People are just going to grind out an area with the best chance to have a champion. I would love the system if Champions and Bosses had the same chance at better items, then give a bonus for each time you fully complete a difficulty and all its quests(and be able to do this as many times as you like). People would still use all the content for end game because they would want the bonus and wouldn't be punished for wanting to defeat a boss.
Maybe each time you fully complete a difficulty, you are guaranteed one Legendary item.
Since D3 is a loot game and I adore loot, it doesn't get better than that...and basically what Bashiok said and since everybody is quoting this guy, what he said.

But they are always there, and you know exactly where they are(more or less).
The best farming method will still likely be to head to the bosses, because you know they are there.
But instead of just running by everything, kill it.
I dont see the problem tbh.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
Bosses take a lot longer to kill so they shoudl have a PROPORTIONALLY higher chance to drop loot. This isn't encouraging people to farm wherever they want, it's DISCOURAGING people from going anywhere near a boss.
If, for example, a champion took 30 seconds to kill and had a 1% chance to drop x item while a boss took 2 minutes and had a 4.5%(to recognize the increased time it took and the difficulty), that would still encourage people to farm wherever because champions would have a PROPORTIONATE chance to drop the item. But having bosses lower than champ/rare means that once they've finished inferno they will NEVER go near a boss again - too risky, and less rewarding.
Let me just play plsssss. Haven't even get into beta yet. /cry

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
As long as they don't include a way beyond the first time to have meaningful loot with bosses and still avoid farming them so exclusively (plenty of ways to limit it), I consider it a lazy way. Its not quite bad because D2 set an absolutely horrible example of "farm nothing but bosses", but its not quite good either. Its just lazy. Actually fix this and make everything worth fighting, just not the same thing over and over.
I think it's bad... It's so anti climax. People will still do boss runs, but are now clearing all the mobs in the run towards the boss.
So we'll be hunting for rares/champions WHILE doing boss runs.
I think rares and champions should have the same loot as bosses. So it'll be beneficial doing both.
Well, except for your last sentence that is EXACTLY what blizzard wants. You to hunt down everything, not JUST bosses. How many threads on this topic must be created?
I voted bad. Although all of us are voting in the dark on this, with no idea how it actually plays out, and I'd definitely reconsider my opinion on this if it's enjoyable.
The main reason I voted bad was because bosses seem to have been much improved from previous Diablo games, mechanics wise. If they put all this effort into making interesting and engaging boss fights that actually required strategy, I would think you should get the best loot from them.
If they are dead-set on this though, I would love to see some cosmetic things you could get only from Inferno mode bosses (such as dyes, ornaments for your banner, etc).
I voted good, coz gearing up in d2 say barbarian for top pve frenzy takes a shitload of time farming bosses for runes and very rare uniques, i hope good drop from champions will reduce farming time from 1 year to 3-4 months

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell...
I have a thought on this.
Blizzard's philosophy is letting people kill whatever they want in Inferno to get good loot, last I checked.
This is counter to that philosophy.
Hear me out: Sure this is a step towards that philosophy by making people able to do things other than boss runs, but it is still contradictory to the philosophy in truth - just on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Why? Some people out there LIKE boss runs. This is making them completely UNABLE to perform the action they enjoy and still get good loot. So it is actually restricting some people from doing what they want within the game.
I'm just thinking if bosses have a LOWER % chance to drop good items, AND are harder to kill, why would anyone bother?
I am worried MFing will involve no main boss killing at all, which is very lame (to me).
I am all for killing champions and getting good items, my favorite places to MF in D2 were The Pits, CS, The Mausoleum, cows, ect...I also liked killing bosses though. I feel like if they make champions have a higher % chance to drop better items, it won't be worth it to do boss runs.
God, yes. I've done so many Baal and Mephisto runs that if bosses still dropped the best loot, it'd be a huuuuuge flaw in the game for me, ruining a lot of enjoyment.
I think the random locations of the champions offsets the chance at better loot. So you'll still either go to the bosses and maybe get lucky on the way, or run around areas looking for champs and better loot, but maybe not find one.
If the bosses have the best loot AND predictable locations, then there is really only the option to run straight to them, if you want to maximize yer drops.
Fightning boss is more fun because his well scripted and have half decent AI. Rare monster are random mindless bots with super powers.
Not to mention the fact that Rare monster looks all the same (as long as they have the same proprieties) while bosses tends to be completly different fights.
After playing D3 for a while, fightning Leoric and the event just before you fight him is the only thing that kep me going. I simply can't imagine myself playing that game to kill illusionist champion bats or stuff alike (to poor AI to be fun).
If you look at the beta... and they've said that things are toned DOWN a lot for the first act... you can typically run into 2-3 SETS of champion/rare monsters per 'dungeon'. Sometimes 5-6. I doubt that people are going to have 'trouble' finding champions since they're probably going to be MORE common at higher difficulties since they want to make it easy for us by reducing the numbers of nearly everything for act 1 normal.
A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

Couldn't have said it better.
Does anyone, perhaps those who have played the Beta, have a rough idea how often you'll encounter rare- and legendary monsters?
