posted a message on DiabloFans Calculator Build Contest (ONE POST ONLY)
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#QZXhSU!feV!ZYZcab

I tend to play healing classes or fast melee, so the Monk is perfect for me. This particular build is for healing Inferno. I also took as many survivability talents as I could spare, since a dead healer isn't healing anyone. It's probably unnecessary for anything below late hell/inferno. Some abilities could be dropped for easier areas to add some more damage, most likely Serenity, Mantra of Healing, and Pacifism for Seven Sided Strike, Mantra of Conviction, and The Guardian's Path (with a staff).

I'm not in the beta, and I might be working off old info since I haven't been following it nearly as close as I was when it came out. But wasn't Griswold's Edge a legendary sword?

    Quote from Kodachii

I don't really find it all that funny. If you don't think there will be cookie cutter builds and skills which are just flat out better than others (say for pvp, aoe dps, or single target dps, or survivability), you're crazy.

It's still about having the best items combined together with the best builds, just now you apparently don't need quite as much mouse accuracy. Players will always seek out how to gain an advantage, especially with the number of theory crafters you're going to pick up from wow, the game with no soul.

It may not make sense now(and that does look kinda funny now) when the possibilities look huge, but just look at that talent tree and count the number of skills which were still in the game but were still useless nonethless. 2 years from release pvp builds at least will for the most part all be similar/cookie cutterish and the game will be so easy to complete (I'm guessing) with twinked characters that almost any build will "work" in pvm (which isn't so competitive) regardless.

C'mon now, I know everyone likes to hate on WoW (me too), but do you really think the Diablo series wasn't "soullessly" theorycrafted over? I know I remember looking up framerates and adding up exactly how many stat points I had to allocate for the gear I was going to use.

I got pretty off-topic with that, but just felt like putting that out there.

As for the rest, I don't think anyone is really saying that there won't be cookie-cutter builds with the new system. I think the point they're trying to make is that both systems are pretty similiar, with D3's cutting out the "useless" skills.

I don't agree with them, but I think you may have misinterpretted it.

I'm going to give the new skill system a chance before I nock it too bad, but I really did like D2's better. On nearly all my characters I was using more than 6 skills. I also enjoyed being able to deviate from the most effective build to toss out 1 pointers into fun skills like bone wall and bone prison, and some one pointers could even be really usefull in end game such as any of the golems, curses, grizzly, etc. without too much of an investment and some +skills.

Maybe it wasn't really like this with most classes, but I mainly played druid/necro.

I'm surprised, as well as many others, that the Monk has gotten so popular. I remember him being the least favorite not too long ago. Still going with the Monk.

Seems to me that the skill is causing some pretty noticeable lag every time it actually hits an enemy. I do like the concept though. I wonder if it will work in PvP.

Definitely looking forward to this, I've read all the other Diablo books and thoroughly enjoyed them. I'll most likely buy it anyway but just wanted to let you know I think what you're doing is pretty cool.

And if I win that's cool too.

posted a message on Rare and Champion Loot > Boss Loot
I voted bad. Although all of us are voting in the dark on this, with no idea how it actually plays out, and I'd definitely reconsider my opinion on this if it's enjoyable.

The main reason I voted bad was because bosses seem to have been much improved from previous Diablo games, mechanics wise. If they put all this effort into making interesting and engaging boss fights that actually required strategy, I would think you should get the best loot from them.

If they are dead-set on this though, I would love to see some cosmetic things you could get only from Inferno mode bosses (such as dyes, ornaments for your banner, etc).

in d3, blizz has stated that there will be an exp cap for every monster so you wont get unbelieveable exp for monsters 50 levels higher than you

Well I'm thankful for at least this. Reminds me of the way they approached WoW. You could kinda power level someone but there were exp caps and it still took awhile.
I think D2 had something like this as well. When you were 5 levels above or below an enemy you would only receive 10% of the experience the give.

It is like that in D2. Hell Chaos runs just gave such ridiculous amounts of XP that it didn't matter.

posted a message on Cain Theory- Possible spoiler conspiracy theory
I have a few problems with this theory.

The first being that Tyrael, an Archangel of the Angiris Council, is unable to detect such a powerful demon in his presence.

The second (and most important, imo) is why would Belial want the Diablo 1 warrior to host Diablo? The warrior is an incredibly powerful Nephalem, much more powerful than Leoric's son. Being in possession of such a powerful host allows Diablo to free his brothers and return to Hell at the end of Act 3. This is exactly the opposite of what Belial and Asmodan want to accomplish.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't seem to hold much water to me.

Quick Edit: This doesn't mean that Belial hasn't possessed Cain in the 20 years between D2 and D3. It would make more sense now to push the Diablo 3 hero down the wrong path, since they're no longer just hunting Belial's enemies, they're hunting him and his ally as well.

posted a message on simple math regarding keys already sent or not
    Quote from kikoo182

900 comments on facebook atm. none have keys.

so, assuming less then 1 people for every 900 that applied got the keys, that would mean:

    - assuming blizz is sending out 10k invites, 9 million people would have applied.

starcraft 2 sold 3million copies in its first month. do you really think 9million people applied for D3 beta?

chill. invites haven't been sent yet.

Cold, hard logic. I like it.

posted a message on Joining Games in Diablo 3
    Quote from Baron Samedi

    Quote from Proposition

    1. Can you browse games like in Diablo 2? As in, do you create your own game, giving it a game name and potentially a password and level restriction relative to your own level which then shows up in a list along with other games of that difficulty level?

Currently you can browse by active quest, since everyone in a game shares the same quest progress, so you can decide, for example to just join someone doing a skeleton king run.

    Quote from Proposition
    2. If you can in fact browse games in the same matter as in Diablo 2, have you noticed anything on the UI allowing you to choose which difficulty you're browsing? It has always bothered me that I had to switch characters in Diablo 2 to browse lower difficulty games, an option for doing so is one of the things I've been hoping to be implemented into D2 for a while now, and would love to see it in Diablo 3.

We have no way or knowing, we are in the beta, the max level is 13, we aren't getting out of normal difficulty.

    Quote from Proposition
And just to be clear, I have heard of the new matchmaking system searching for games by a specific quest, but no clear indication of whether this has replaced the old system or merely complements it.

As above, but take into consideration some of the UI looks like its built to serve a slimmed down beta client, so any answers on how the final game will work will be nothing but speculation.

First of all, thanks for the response. Just to make sure I'm understanding you correctly - the only way to currently browse games is by active quests? There are no game names?

Secondly, I understand that the beta doesn't allow progress past the Skeleton King or level 13, I was just wondering if there was any indication in the UI that you could change the difficulty you were browsing, but it's understandable that wouldn't be in beta since as you said it is very limited.

posted a message on Well according to the community, Beta is this week
    Quote from tilite

I think Bashiok said they would release it once the "kinks and bugs have been ironed out", I hope it comes out really soon.

So day9 tweeted saying he has a beta key and would be streaming for his daily "100% certain, tomorrow", but he couldn't because of the temp NDA till closed beta release. I'm speculating here but I would say that all the press/media have access to the beta currently but can't share, further evidence would be the lack of Sixen here and Force on YouTube, there has been a slight dip in production.... so my guess is Force is busy at work now preparing heaps of content he will release soon after closed beta start. I hope the poor guy didn't make heaps early on that has become redundant.

I doubt his work would be redundant. Maybe to the hardcore fans who follow every single thread they can find on this forum and others for information (myself included), but I personally know more than a few people who get their Diablo 3 information solely through Diablocasts.
