With the recent new information about the several options we'll have when picking up items, it brings up potentially different styles of play. You may wonder what hitting the ALT key has to do with how you play and the answer to this is very simple. Some of you may want to pick up gear while fighting, others may want to complete an epic battle and check the loot afterward. With the various options, both styles are possible, as well as a slew of others. In fact, if Blizzard adds the /nopickup option, there can be "naked" challenges, such as playing through the game while not picking up any items at all. We want to know, which ALT option do you plan on using?
Diablo III Default: The default option is that names will show for 10 seconds when the item drops, and then the name fades out. You can hit Alt again to show them for another 10 seconds.
Classic Functionality: You can also forego showing item names automatically when they drop and choose to just use Alt to show item names while it's held down.
Reverse-Classic Functionality: You can also choose to always show item names, and hold Alt to hide them. (I'm not sure how useful this is, but it's there)
Toggle: There's also an option to make Alt toggle showing item names on/off.
No-Pickup: We're also looking to bring back the /nopickup option from Diablo II, but it's currently a nice-to-have feature and so may not make initial release.
In our previous poll, we wanted to know what you thought on item selling. Over 50% of you voted to have no item stores, while over a quarter of you also voted to sell Vanity items. A vanity item-only store is a common thing amongst games in this day and age.

I'm just happy to have another Diablo game to play. That being said, Toggle. Who knows though. I will try them all out probably. It's nice to see such detail being applied to even the most basic of functions.
If loot that drops is now ours alone and can't be taken by fast clickers, than I would like to focus on an intense fight without distraction of some shiny epic loot drop and toggle the loot reveal at the end of a fight.
And I would encourage any other serious player to do the same. If you are kiting a bunch of demons and your teammates are depending on you - you don't want to be plagued with the loot equivalent of a dog going "squirrel!"
I'm going to go with the classic functionality. It will be easier to transition into Diablo III if the controls are very similar. In this case, the exact same.
For some reason, I liked hitting ALT after a big battle and then finding a surprise. If I find a surprise right away, with the 10 seconds-til-fade option, then it just won't feel the same. Still nice, but not the same.
Why can't we pick Toggle + /nopickup? It's my option.
EDIT: In case anyone was wondering, the "/nopickup" feature made it so you couldn't pick up items unless you had ALT selected. This was to ensure you didn't accidentally fill up your inventory with garbage you didn't want.
"I have walked the roads that lead to Hell, I have challenged all but Fate. I have fought and bled and carried on just to reach this final gate. And now the task before me looms, this dire deed undone; I shall make my stand against the Three until the battle's won." - C. Vincent Metzen
I'd definitely go for toggle simply because alt is the most at-hand key for this function but unfortunately combines with some other keys to make some nasty surprises. I still remember when I occasionally needed to recast a buff binded on F4 and at the same time held the Alt to see what items were lying on the ground. Same thing with Alt+Tab from time to time though it was not that often and not that serious an issue. My thumb would also gradually get tired from all the Alt holding (I used to play D2 for like ten hours a day every day at times) so just pressing it and grabbing what I need without the need to hold it would be great. I just hope you can disable picking up items when not holding Alt. It's kinda annoying when you are desperately trying to kill a monster and instead you click on items on the ground.

Click alt twice > hold alt for a varying amount of time.
what a boring poll :\

Classic, though I'm open to practical adjustment.
