Aug 3, 2011Crit posted a message on Skill Points Removal Fuels Game ControversyLevelling up is going to be pretty boring now all of our choices are made for us, and I think I'll grow sick of swapping skills around all the time for different areas. Nice job Winged!
It's good to see how many details Blizzard is working on.
If Homer says "donuts....aaaahhhhhh", I'll say "Diablo...aaahhhhhh"
Which Homer are you talking about? He says mmmmmmmmmm... doooughnuuuuts.
Oh wait. He says aaaaaahhhh sometimes now that I think about it. I was just reading it wrong in my head. -
Jul 26, 2011Crit posted a message on Monsters have Flavor!Nice complete article Winged. I think there's a good chance we'll see a unique Bashiok shaman. All Fallen raised by Bashiok get extra buffs to deal with trolls and griefers.Posted in: News

Jul 6, 2011Crit posted a message on The Future of Item SellingThere is something that hasn't been discussed. Let's imagine this scenario:Posted in: News
There's a vanity store making large profits. The biggest selling items are the more "interesting" items or stuff that doesn't really fit the universe of sanctuary. For example, a tabard with a bull head on it. People buy it because it looks silly and they want to stand out. Blizzard takes note of this and gets greedy. They say, wouldn't a cow skin dye sell like hotcakes? So they release a cow skin dye. Tens of thousands of people buy it because it looks so zany. Diablo is know known as Bessie. Integrity of the game is damaged.
I'm not saying this will happen but there's a chance because we all know ridiculous items usually sell better than ones that fit the universe. You can say Blizzard wouldn't make items that don't totally fit the universe. This is alright if it's subtle. But who really knows where a vanity store could lead to? It might fit in the bonus level but for standard play I don't really want to see crazy cow warriors. -
Jul 2, 2011Crit posted a message on The Future of Item SellingTempted to say vanity items only, but I saw what happened in Team Fortress (the store is now full of items that affect playstyle, even though Valve said this would never happen). So I want to leave that door closed forever and keep Diablo's integrity. I'm fine with people paying for more player slots, renaming characters, or even complete respecs (different from the ones you can buy with ingame gold).Posted in: News

Jun 30, 2011Crit posted a message on Diablo III: Book of CainI reckon it will be one of the lore writers for D3... maybe. It could still be Knaak, he wrote the Sin War, right? The final cover will be sweet I reckon.Posted in: News
@ CherubDown - I miss it too. -
Jun 29, 2011Crit posted a message on Diablo III: Book of CainLooks cool, I reckon it will have a lot to do with the story (or the lore behind the story) in D3. So I wouldn't read it before finishing the game first. Also I would like the cover more if it was like this:Posted in: News

Jun 21, 2011Crit posted a message on DiabloCast: Episode XIV - No More Tears About Item TiersPosted in: NewsQuote from ScyberDragon
@critter - I think a big problem people are having with this concept is that they are thinking every player will be upgrading all of there gear to the next tier level at once and then keeping that until the next tier level is available. This just isn't the case in diablo because of the random attributes. Think of it more like:
Act 1 normal - tiers 1-3 are viable
Act 2 normal - tiers 2-4 are viable
Act 3 normal - tiers 3-5 are viable
Act 4 normal - tiers 4-7 are viable
Act 1 nightmare - tiers 4-8 are viable
Act 2 nightmare - tiers 5-9 are viable
Act 3 nightmare - tiers 5-10 are viable
Act 4 nightmare - tiers 6-12 are viable
Act 1 hell - tiers 7-13 are viable
Act 2 hell - tiers 8-14 are viable
Act 3 hell - tiers 9-16 are viable
Act 4 hell - tiers 10-18 are viable
Really, there's a good chance that 3-10 different tiers types might be useable based on the random stats attributed to them. As mentioned in the cast, I used a nightmare act 1 weapon all the way through act v he'll because of the great stats on it. So it's very possible that gear will still flucuate a lot through the acts with different tiers.
I agree it will be more diverse in later acts where you have older items dropping for you but the point I'm trying to get across isn't about what's viable, it's just flavour. I know I'm being nitpicky but on the chance that I have a good chain mail and a good breastplate in act 3 I will be pissed to change them over and see no difference on my character. It will still fluctuate a lot with normal play as you said because you'll hang on to gear but I had a lot of fun trying on every new item the first few play throughs of D2 trying to see all the different looks - and it was only minor changes. It was a great step up from D1. Every new item was a guaranteed new look, even sometimes on the same item type but coloured differently. They've made another step up with D3 with radically changing armour, changing looks through the difficulties and the unique looks for legendary items (love this feature a lot) but IMO they should have completed the picture by making every item have some small change. -
Jun 21, 2011Crit posted a message on DiabloCast: Episode XIV - No More Tears About Item TiersOk I'm still a little bit confused about item tiers. There's going to be 12 acts with 18 tiers. That works out to change looks roughly one or two times per act. But there's going to be more items per act, so there could be a leather cap, skull cap, and full helmet in the first act - but they will all look like the first tier of helmet armour, correct? How easy would it be for the developers to do slight modifications like recolouring the non dye parts and adding/removing parts to make it that much more interesting? They could bump it up to 18 totally different item tiers with another 18 looks that differ slightly throughout each act.Posted in: News
Not to be a buzzkill but I think it will be dull having the exact same helmet with different names dropping over and over throughout the act.
Edit: Ok it would be a little bit more work than I first considered but Blizzard is a massive company and it's peanuts for the extra diversity we would be getting. -

Jun 16, 2011Crit posted a message on Which Class to Play?It is hard to choose just one option on the poll. I would say skills and traits as well as playstyle influence me the most. Also I won't be playing the WD first based on looks, it just doesn't scream Diablo to me. I still like him, he just won't be my first character.Posted in: News
My first character will be a Wizard, but I'm uncertain if I'll go melee or spellcaster. My first character in Diablo 2 was the Barbarian which I chose mostly because I found the Warrior the easiest to play in D1 and I thought the Barbarian looked badass. I didn't know anything about D2 at that stage, not even the skills. -

Yeah the attribute system sucked in D2. Did you even read my follow up post?

How about not paying at all? How about Blizzard suing these sites? How about Blizzard banning the accounts of buyers? I laugh at people who got scammed paying for gear when they know it's illegal.
You say free respecs like it's a good thing. There's basically no consequences for changing your skills on the fly. Besides from runes (if they get revised) but eventually you'll probably have a rune in each skill anyway. It turns the game into use these skills to kill this boss, then use a different skill combo to deal with mobs. You have a generic character that can be used in any situation. I would prefer the extra challenge of making your build work for mobs that it isn't wholly intended for.
Which would you prefer? Choosing only runes to customise your skills, or customising all of your skills and traits with points alongside runes. It's obvious which option has more customisation. The attributes in D2 were rubbish. We have a much better attribute system in D3, where each attribute means something for every character. The items only require levels. If they actually spent the time balancing for radically different builds we could have the extra customisation of having really crazy builds. As it stands, the only way we can customise is through items and runes. Charms are not necessary but it's still extra customisation. Like you might want some armour with good specs, but it gives you attributes you don't like. Now if the armour gave no extra stats, and you had charms, you could choose the stats you like and still wear the armour.
Blizzard could sue third party sites and ban sellers and buyers.

No need, there are 2 wikis which should cover almost every question you have.

Devolving
The game shouldn't be devolving at all.

Wow that sounds like fun, manually keeping track of my stats. It could have been implemented so easily. It doesn't really matter though because of the P2W aspect. People buying the best gear/runes/gems are naturally going to be much more powerful than people who only have good gear.

Yes. Why can't it be an E-sport? If it even amounted to that. They said they weren't going to be balancing the game for PvP so people knew it wasn't going to be a hardcore PvP game. But with no track of your losses, and no ladder, it's almost pointless to PvP now. You get a kick out of it, you win, yay, you lose, doesn't matter. Can you even choose your team and opponents so you can play with your friends?
I think they were even planning on making a ladder but that all changed when they thought up this RMAH bullshit.
