A post went up on Diablo3.cc, a Chinese Diablo fansite, covering their exclusive interview with Jay Wilson. Aside from a few snapshots of the strapping Chinaman and Wilson himself, the interview led to some information you may have been awaiting for some time.
(We encourage you to give our Chinese friends their due traffic by clicking here and trying to discern the information for youself.)
Item Binding
About two-fifths of the way down the page, Jay confirmed that there will be no item-binding. Elaboration was thin going by the translation, but based on context it's likely safe to assume that this decision maintains the more free-flowing inventory aesthetic present in earlier Diablo games. Further in-house translation here at DiabloFans (spam zhuge lots of thank-you PM's--his Chinese heritage has contributed some clearer translations) seems to have confirmed this will be across all items, regardless of type or quality.
PvP and Arena Development (For an excellent recap of PvP in Diablo III, see liquorice's Diablo III PvP - Battle Arenas.)
Jay stressed that the arena may be better suited to testing out various character builds than "official" dueling. This may be nothing new, but he did mention that they may introduce official tournaments with the arena, something typically seen in Blizzard's other franchises. However, because of balancing (see Bashiok on Skill Balancing in PvE and PvP), the decision seems to still be in the air. He stated that primarily because of the heavy focus on customization in Diablo III, the game will not be suited to e-sports, even if they come through with Blizzard-sanctioned matches and tournaments.
With the release of Diablo II's take on item hoarding, the magic find attribute is either a topic of love or hate among fans. Regardless, it's in Diablo III and it's here to stay. However, during the interview Jay Wilson did state that "magic find in Diablo III is second place. It's not the only thing you can do." One of these "other" things is likely the arena, but we've yet to see any other alternatives to the grind seen in previous games.
Finally...
For all you Necromancer coots, he's been officially confirmed as a returning NPC. Oh, and Diablo's a confirmed returning character in the game. Go figure
Thanks to doomscream for alerting us of this news and a special thanks to zhuge and his father for a the translation of the interview.
Yay Necro - any word on the other classes? I'm sure there's gotta be a few Easter eggs hidden in there....
I know that alot of posters are happy about the no BoE. But the main theme that I'm seeing as to why is "I can get/give items more freely now" and "Yay, D3 is not like a MMO."
I think no BoE is a terrible idea.
I have no idea how the trading system is going to be as great as they are indicating, without the consequence of "once its your, its yours." Well, wait - I guess the trading system will be great, but the market will be terrible, imo.
Stop and think about this example; lets say item: Super Cool Armor drops off the final boss and has a drop rate of 1%. As millions of players go out and find this armor they have to make a choice "do I keep it, or do I sell it?" If Super Cool Armor isn't good for your character, then you sell it to make gold to buy the other Super Cool Armor that is good for your character, using the trade system. So one item, went through two hands and now is technically "gone" from the market. But, no BoE means that piece can exist on the market indefinitely. Great, now you'll have the chance to have some of the rarest items, whenever you want. Get the gold to buy it or be lucky to find it....
There's no value in that.
There is no sense of achievement, of being able to sit back and look at your hard work/luck and go "I've got some really good gear - eat it, jealous onlookers". And the actual gold value will go down to something so minor as to make the sense of value meaningless, which doesn't reflect what you should have to pay for something as awesome as Super Cool Armor.
In D2 we traded items for items. Now you are going to pay 10g for Super Cool Armor, because there are a thousand of them on the trading system for a range of 10g to the moron's listing of 1,000,000g.
Think about how many people in D2 had legitimate items for trade. Thousands. What did they want? Another legitimate item of equal value. You had to be lucky enough to find that, so you could trade it. Now you can buy those items, over and over again, because they never disappear.
And for those who are so bent on establishing "action rpg - not mmorpg!" Good for you.
Some of the best systems come from MMOs. Get over it.
I seriously doubt they'd remove BoE without implementing some other system that encourages items being taken out of the economy. If no BoE means D3 will need ladder resets, then they'll probably put BoE back in.

I sincerely hope so. I didn't want to say it earlier, but that's what I'm afraid of.
If you don't have a way to remove the item from the market, then the only way is to reset the market.
I'm eager to see what systems are left to reveal and am desperately hoping that the trading system has some mechanic like a BoE.

Salvaging will yield a good reward at high levels.
Official Blizzard Quote:
Yeah, we realized that binding is kind of a crappy way to pull items out of the economy. If you say that the average player produces 100 items an hour and maybe gets 1 upgrade in that time, then binding at best can account for removing 1% of items from the economy. And that's being very generous at high levels.
Binding isn't really substantial in making a viable economy, but it is really good at establishing item prestige. Which is how it's used in WoW.
We expect salvaging to be compelling enough to remove a good percentage of the most valuable items from the economy. High end components obtained from salvaging high end items are needed for high end crafting and enhancement.
Just to put my 2 cents in, I think this is the best news I've heard for D3 in a long time. Absolutely am I in favor of this type of system. It makes Diablo 3 really feel like a Diablo game where you're not afraid to put on gear due to some arbitrary binding system. I hated it in World of Warcraft and will continue to hate it in future games. Item binding renders the cool shiny item you just picked up useless if you decide you want to try it on for size!
I am glad to hear that they have a plan for their end-game. I am sure this is nothing we will see or hear of until the game's release but I am very eager to see what it is.
With the necro, it is important to note that according to the interview, the exact charcter from D2 is a NPC in the game. It is also important to remember that they are trying to extend the world in this game and you will probably run into multiple necors, druids, amazons and many more characters that we have previously seen.
I still can't believe that the confirmation of Diablo is even necessary but given the ample proof before this, I am sure there are still people who will debate this fact.
I am also glad that the arena is still being treated so lightly with PvE as the games focus (Sorry force)

This makes sense and hopefully the salvage rewards are generous enough to promote the destroying of elite items for reagents. I still feel (based on what little we know) that it will be hard for people to choose to destroy an elite item, to further their gains on better gear. I guess the difference in items would have to be pretty substantial to promote this, otherwise people will hold onto their elite gears for other characters or sell them.
Again like many have said - I'm sure they know what they are doing.
Dont get your hopes up though, Zayl isnt a part of the Sin War books. Even if i love Zayl and his companion Humbart, i still believe Mendeln or Rathma will show up as the necromancer NPCs.
Anyone else who have any thought on this?
Although I think it would be cool to see these characters as NPC's, but I doubt it will happen. First as posted earlier by Scyber, he reminded us that the NPC's will be carrying over from D2. Neither of these two have previously been in the game/side of the franchise so I don't think they'll be adding them now. I would look more to be seeing a return from Nihlathak, or something like that.

Well... The Sin War was a few thousand years before D2 as I understand it, and Rathma and his contemporary Nephalem were way before that. Not saying that it couldn't be done, as Rathma showed up in the Sin War, but I certainly wouldn't expect either of them to be hanging around the campfire.
Zayle was for sure not the same Necro that we encountered in D2, but I don't know of any reason why they couldn't be contemporaries.
What I'm curious to know is if they will give the D2 necro a name (i.e. Blood Raven), or if they'll just go by a title (i.e. The Summoner).

I think Zayl would be a more likely bet since his timeline intersects with Diablo 2, I think he refers to the worldstone being destroyed in the book, but don't quote me on that. The sin war takes place long before the Diablo games.

I wish its Zayl.
Shitty Chinese fansite. I think they made this part up.
I guess in the expansions it might turn into a playable class.

You need only just ask
BOE: Bind on equip. If you pick up the item its not locked to you, once you put it on your character you cannot trade it.
BOP: Bind on Pickup. If you pick the item up you cannot trade it.
Just a clarification as alot of people do not know what these terms mean.
I really hoped BOE was in or at least account based but I trust blizzard knows what they are doing.
thanks was just going to ask
