At the top, it says it's a movie (pelicula), but the rest of the sentence is coved by glare. I'm thinking something about drug cartels. The bottom part says it includes music from those three norteña bands. Probably not a best seller. :)

    Edit: Found it.

posted a message on Legendary will drop alot in 1.05 ...
Actually 50m is difficult for a large majority of people that play the game.
Amen to that. I have a regular job with a few 12 hour days every week, and a time jealous girlfriend. I can only get in somewhere between 2 and 7 hours per week. I've been playing since release, and I am currently sitting on a grand total of about 1.5 million gold.

My strongest character is unable to get past filthy, stinking Ghom on Inferno, so I'd love to get a lucky drop out of the new 1.05 drop rate.

Also, my girl bought me the new XCOM for my birthday this week, so out of respect for the masterpiece that was the original, I must kill aliens.

I am among those who will be playing Diablo III for years, because I'll never have enough time to get bored with it.

posted a message on Common deaths in HC
Most of those monsters are on the list because of their location in the game (Act 1). The statistics only count the gross number of deaths, and since the majority of HC characters don't make it out of Act 1, the numbers of deaths to Act 1 monsters are heavily skewed. Doesn't have anything to do with underestimating the foe.

posted a message on A little light on armor tier names.
I was curious as to the meaning of some of the armor tier names, so I looked up a few. Here's my take on the interesting ones.

    -Brigantine Coat
---brigantine is a reference to a type of armor made of small plates attached to cloth or leather

    -Stygian Harness
---stygian is a reference to anything having to do with the river Styx of Greek mythology

    -Jazeraint Mail
---also a reference to armor made of small plates

    -Balor Armor
---Balor was a king in Irish mythology who had a powerful evil eye. That doesn't have anything to do with the armor name though from what I can tell. In the old D&D, one of the demons was called the Balrog (just like Lord of the Rings), but they changed it to Balor so as to not infringe on intellectual property. So Balor is a reference to the big fiery demon with the sword and whip.

    -Astral Mail
---astral is a reference to being out-of-body

    -Archon Armor
---An archon was a ruler in Greek society. In later mythologies, archons were something like demons or angels (powerful beings between gods and mortals). Mostly it's just a badass name for anything epic.

Anybody else find peculiar names and wants to add them in; be my guest.

There will be chinese players on the US server using the US RMAH.

The only Chinese players on US servers using the US RMAH are the ones that live here.. I can't go play on Chinese servers and sell stuff on their RMAH. It's all localized..................................... Not sure why people don't get this yet. And aww my Kim Jong Ill was deleted, he was so cute killing Hans Brixxx :(

Meaning you can't doesn't mean more tech savy people cant.

How will they enforce it ?
Based on you bnet adress ? put fake adresse living in USA.
Based on your ? Proxy maybe ?

I mean I'm not sure myself how, I just know getting around that kind of limitation is not hard.
Yeah sure it will prevent people that don't know how, but the farms ? meh.
Blizzard has already said that they don't care where you play. You just can't bring your US characters with you to other regions. I live in Shanghai, and when a person needs to, there are virtual proxy networks that can be used to get over the Great Firewall, but you don't even need that for beta. I just play on the US servers using the locally assigned IP. Language and latency are the only real barriers to playing in another server region.

    Quote from Atlan7

You can play from anywhere in the world as they have already said(if currency is an issue then juste create new bnet account in the region you want). So of course you will see chinese on US RMAH. Add to this that there is still no china release date (as far as I know).
Chinese release date is a couple months later in the middle of the summer. I looked it up once, but I don't remember the date.

    Its so you don't miss!
Yeah, you don't miss, (kind of feels like you can't) but to me it feels like they can't miss either.

I have found that the evasive movements that I would have used in D2 make no difference in D3. I haven't been able to dodge nearly any projectiles as they seem to hit me even when they appear to be missing by several feet. Of course, that doesn't make to much difference in beta, but it may get frustrating when the screen is full of arrows in Inferno and every arrow on the screen is unavoidably hitting you.

Also, yeah, you got Poison Dagger at level 6, but that didn't mean you used it. But who's gonna get RoF at level 2 and not use it? And that's the fundamental problem with this whole thing (that you so well illustrated with your FoT example): to have a varied experience with multiple characters, you have to purposefully gimp yourself.

To be fair, I did say exactly that. (that you didn't need to use poison dagger)

Here's my take on the rest of it. Yes, a player is unlikely to not use Ray of Frost at level two, but the period of time when a players skill choices is limited to so few is relatively small. Even by the time you hit level ten, you are likely to start seeing quite a few variations in skill sets.

As to the gimping yourself, one reason I wasn't worried about not using the higher damage options, was that the option I did want to use (no-rune FoT) was so close to the same power as it's more powerful counterparts, that there was very little difference in terms of kill speed and survivability. How that will really end up playing out at higher levels is only known to those inside Blizzard at the moment, but the devs have specifically addressed the issue in their statement to the effect that there will always be a superior choice, but that the alternatives to that choice should be insignificantly less powerful.

Again, I'm not saying that I was thrilled about the way the skills progression ended up, nor do I buy the explanation as to why we can't choose which runes we unlock, but in the end, I don't think it will keep me from enjoying the game.

The problem with all that is that it makes early/mid game boring to veterans. For people who will level 5 chars and farm Inferno forever, it's not a big deal, but for people who really enjoy the levelling process...it can get boring (you will always get ray of frost at level 2, no matter how many Wizards you create).

call me crazy but that's what I thought was one of the goals in making the new skill system. getting rid of the need to pointlessly level the same character all over again.

I think that Maka is talking about leveling because he wants too. Some people level because they like to level a new character, which is a valid form of entertainment. I mean, on some planets they juggle baby geese. Just sayin' (also I like to level new characters too sometimes)

    @Maka

I also have a natural gut reaction against the way the skill runes are presented, but I do have some hope that it won't be as bad as I everyone supposes. My reason for having that opinion comes from the skills I used in the beta. For example, I stayed with the no-rune Fist of Thunder skill over the chain lightning rune and the Deadly Reach skill just because I liked it better. Even though I realized that I would be getting more damage out of the skills by changing them, I stayed with the one that I like. As the skill options expand, I believe that people will diversify.

it can get boring (you will always get ray of frost at level 2, no matter how many Wizards you create).

My necromancer always gained access to poison dagger at level 6 whether I chose to use it or not, and I created a whole mess of necromancers.

I believe that leveling will still be fun. For me the bigger draw back to leveling will be having to delete older characters after I've reached my ten character limit. :(

posted a message on Non-gamer Beta Experience through Gamer Eyes
I got into the beta back in patch 13, and the first thing I did was sit my girlfriend down to play while I quietly watched and took notes. As a bit of background, she has played a bit of D2 with me, but has never made it past act 3 on normal difficulty. She does play a few other games on her iPad, but mostly of the take-care-of-a-pretty-horse variety. Also, she is not a native English speaker.

She chose the female monk and went to it. The first thing she mentioned was how much easier it was to know where she was going, and what she was supposed to do. She liked having the map on the screen and having the quest prompts ticking off as she completed them.

As soon as she got a few skills going (especially Lashing Tail Kick) she started loving smashing monsters. I was interested to find her saying phrases that were exactly in line with Jay Wilson's statements early on in development. At one point she said, "Ooooh, I'm strong!" She also mentioned at one point that she would play the game even if I wasn't there. My favorite quote though was when she encountered the little demon imps and in her sweet little voice said, "Come here babies so I can kill you."

Afterwards, I talked to her about how it felt and especially how it compared to Diablo 2. One of the first things she said was that she felt "powerful" in game. She also expressed that in D2, she never really knew what was going on, why she was doing what she was doing, and where she was supposed to go, but that in D3, she always understood what she was doing. We also talked about stat and skill allocation differences, and that really helped me to understand many of the D3 development decisions. She was able to pick up the game and play it without spending a lot of time reading or feeling confused.

Now a few notes from my perspective.

After I played the game for myself, I became considerably less concerned about some of the things that I found annoying while watching her play. As a spectator, I found the on-screen quest information to be a bit obtrusive, and I was very distracted by the pop-up "massive blow" kill counters. However, as a player, I found both of these to be far less problematic, though I would still very much like to be able to turn the latter off.

Due to a surprising (and somewhat disheartening) number of technical hurdles and bugs (who wrote that launcher, yikes!), and to my pretty busy schedule, I haven't played as much as I would like. I can say though that both melee characters a lot of fun to play. I expected the Barbarian to be fun to play, and he did not disappoint. I was hopeful about the Monk beforehand, and after having played him, I would say that he will definitely be one of my favorite characters to play. I found his pacing, style and skills to be very entertaining. I don't think that either my girlfriend or I will ever get tired of Lashing Tail Kicking our enemies faces off.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________
    tldr:
-the developers were spot on in achieving their goals for bringing in new players, even to the point of getting my girlfriend to use the same phrases to describe the game that the devs have previously used
    -barbs and monks are sweet

The cooldown is a pretty enormous reason, as is the knockback. A spammable 1 second CD AOE spell is good for dealing damage at close range in a persistent way. A 15 second cooldown knockback spell isn't, it's more of an "oh shit" button, used when you are in trouble. I couldn't load up Wave of Force as a primary skill.

    OK. I can dig it.

posted a message on Please explain these two skills to me.
I've wondered about this for some time and I'm hoping for some insight. Here's the deal. Wave of Force is available earlier, costs less, does more damage, slows enemies, knocks them back and casts instantly. The only advantage that Explosive Blast has is the 1 second cooldown.

Question: Since in my mind they fill a similar mechanical niche, why on Earth would anyone choose Explosive Blast over Wave of Force?

    Wave of Force

    Cost: 25 Arcane Power
    Cooldown: 15 seconds

Discharge a wave of pure energy that repels projectiles and knocks back nearby enemies. This also slows the movement of enemies by 60% and deals 220% weapon damage as Physical.

    Explosive Blast

    Cost: 45 Arcane Power
    Cooldown: 1 second

Gather an infusion of energy around you that explodes after 1.5 seconds, causing 175% weapon damage as Physical to any enemies within 12 yards.
