Hardcore players should die in Arena. The Arena should be like a gladiator match for Hardcore players, thus they should stay dead. Imagine how interesting a spectator and betting mode for these matches would be. Blizzard needs to capitalize on Diablo 3 PvP since it offers so much. Instead we just have 4v4 Team deathmatch for now. Ingame tournaments over battle.net like in Warcraft 3 are necessary.
I don't think the arena matchmaking should be part of hardcore. Instead maybe a tournament once a month or every two weeks to give players a chance to rebuild and you could recieve rewards based on how far you made it. Or just revert back to the hostility option, seems simple enough yet effective in hardcore.
I think that you will only ever find very low level characters in this kind of hardcore PvP. Those that can readily be remade. I doubt two level 60s would want to play this game of two go in and one come out.
I think you underestimate how much high level dueling did go on in hardcore mode. I will however agree with the fact that there will be more low level dueling for obvious reasons.(Cost/time input)
I don't agree, so basically, you spend 2 months gearing up your char in hardcore mode, preparing him for arena, then you enter arena ,and if you die ,game over. Pretty retarded imo. I think pvp part shouldn't count for hardcore, if you die in pve, that's fine ,game over ,you'll pvp only for fun and achievements and pvp stats, like 100 kills 3 deaths ,so perma dead there isn't really logical, imho.
That's the best part, you don't have to if you don't want to, but the option is there if you want. Me myself I liked the hostiling feature, but at least with this you have control over pvp deaths. No other game gets your heart going like diablo HC pvp.
2 modes, unranked practice duels, and then ladder ranked death enabled matches. Do you go in less geared and risk lower value in gear, or do you maximize your gear expecting that to keep you alive?
I've played hardcore in D2 almost the entire time and when they first announced that you'd die permanently in the arena, it made me not want to play hardcore in D3, because when the game is new you just want to have some fun with pvp aswell.
I don't understand your perspective. You're saying you're accustomed to dying permanently in HC D2, but if you want to mess around in PvP without fear of dying it makes you not want to play hardcore while the game is new? Why don't you just PvP with a softcore character if you don't want the fear of dying? Softcore is there so you can mess around, and hardcore is there if you want to be incapable of coming back from death. I don't understand your motivation for wanting to merge the two.
Since you came here trying to offend me ,I'll explain you one thing, as opposed to the majority of wow players who are mostly pve noobs ,I was mostly playing pvp ,and got myself a gladiator title ( among many other things) -( even though in later patches ,even retards and pvp noobs like you could have got it ) , that's why I stopped playing wow after achieving gladiator title ,cause with every patch that came ,pvp and arena became only more unbalanced and skills weren't necessary anymore for being good in pvp,it was more gear wise. And ,I only stated that imho, if you enter hardcore diablo 3 pvp and die ,meaning the game is over, you aren't able to play more with that char ,and that felt a bit strange to me. Nevertheless, I will get used to it ,like everyone else, and the thing I will enjoy the most is owning such casual pvp noobs like you in diablo arena. See you there ,soon.
Lol gladiator what an achievement haha, you can get that while playing wow arena with a steering wheel. But see how easily you turned to wanting perma death arena to kill someone's char because they pissed you off you just helped prove my point.
Ok so I'm onboard to this, but not really implemented as regular PvP.
Imagine special rules. Every now and then (lets say 3 months, like a Starcraft season for instance) there s tourney where only HC characters may enter. Death is definitive of course but not necesarily because you loose a match you die. Maybe you do die if overkilled or like a roman arena, if the winner decides so. In any case, not everyone dies, but still you have a high chance of. Winners of each tournament will be absolute persistent. So your character will end up in the 'hardcode hall of fame' forever. Moreover, there can be a leaderboard made only of all time tourney winners, ranked by total amount of frags (not specifically to that tournament, but global for all tournaments where the character participated).
The idea probably needs a lot of brainstorming and stuff, but the point is that a HC tourney doesn't seem to ilogical if you think about it from the right perspective.
Maybe you forgot how hard it is to gear a player to have best items in the game in order to pvp. Losing a character would be way to harsh to a player especially people will put time and money on their characters. But if its for competition with a good price at the end I would imagine it possible
Although there is no AH on hardcore gear itself will be hard to find.
The solution for that would be to block those some way or another, banning players or whatever.
I think the thread assumes that can be done same way we assume bots will not be allowed, or any other hack for that matter.
the idea sounds fun, but imagine how pissed you will be when you lose that character because i own you .....Jk... but seriously i like the sound of, 2 man enter 1 man leave, sort of deal. It adds a more serious manner to pvp, but i think loosing that character for good is too harsh. They should add like a spirit realm where your character is dead for awhile and presents a ghost like character in game. but cannot interact with anything until you become (reincarnated) by. Winning a pvp hardcore arena with another character. so the bad part of hardcore pvp is losing a character but the good part is winning it back. Because i would only hardcore pvp if there was some big payout for me, otherwise i would stick to owning diablo.
To add to that: it would be an even cooler idea if in hardcore pvp, you can win your opponents character, or characters. so in 1v1 its 50/50 but in 2v2 or 3v3 or 4v4 it should be awared to the top players a choice in who you will take. 1st place gets 1st choice 2nd place gets 2 pick etc
The way it worked in D2 imo is perfectly fine. When you vanquish an enemy character you get to loot the body. Think about it: you have slain a character so you go through his/her stuff while the body lay there lifeless. It wouldn't make sense you get to come back to life after a certain amount of time or by some sort of achievement or even get that character when you kill it because he/she is dead... It's hardcore people! It's like real life back in the old days (you fight, one person dies, that person gets robbed). Stop trying to soften up hardcore lol I find it funny all these players are complaining about how hardcore is and should be! It's hardcore for a reason! It is for those who are hardcore so if you are not hardcore and want your precious characters back then play softcore lol it's that simple!

Exactly. Hardcore arena needs to = 1 life, no rez. That's softcore if you want to rez =D Want to make a HC toon and fight in the arena but not lose your character? Again, you're looking for softcore =D
I dont get it. Why play hardcore if not for the thrill of permanent death? Just in PvE? Where's the fun in that? Hardcore isn't hardcore without permanent death, even in PvP.
Not dying in PvE wasn't particularly difficult in D2, and I imagine it wont be in D3, so why even bother?
Hardcore PvP death would be incredible. No other game really offers that.
If you win, you get a great sensation of success; your character is alive and all your invested time and effort has paid off. You will also feel accomplished that the PvP isn't casual; the other player was most likely trying their absolute hardest to stay alive and defeat you.
If you lose, you will either:
- Get angry and never HC PvP again.
- Be inspired to learn from your mistakes and rebuild a new character.
I would never do it, but I agree with perma-death on hardcore PVP. Maybe add a "sissy duel" mode where you don't die, but don't get to loot the other person's body. You know, like softcore.
How about the option to claim a draw, like you if you are playing with a friend and don't want to kill him. you can have a draw. The other player surrenders.
