Lucky I am on it that much because their is hardly any reward in the game for doing it.

Reward? Dude, there are no rewards in gaming. All we do is stare at screens and move little characters around, brag about our ePeens when needed, and get fat off of junk food.

The real reward for gaming is a lathargic, obese population. Other than that, it's somthing to do.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. In games, like in real life, you set goals you want to achieve. When you reach those goals you feel a certain amount of accomplishment. It's fun. When you goals become chores, as is in Diablo 3 for me, it kinda kills that feeling.

Also, not everyone is as you suggest, eating bad, slaving in front of the screen 24/7 or feel the need to brag about your accomplishments online.

Oh and you smell bad. Like a troll.

Here's a shocker...you do have the option not to use the AH. It doesn't affect you AT ALL if you don't.

While you make a perfectly reasonable point in the first sentence, the second one stands quite untrue. The AH affects everyone who ever created a character in Diablo 3. It is an integral part of the game around which many core things, primarily the entire drop rate system, had to be balanced around. Things would have looked very differently if the auction house never existed in the first place. There is just no denying that.

No denying that? That's just pure speculation! Or supply arguments.

It's anything but speculation. It's basically common knowledge by now. Bashiok confirmed some time ago that they did in fact optimize the drop rates to make the AH and the economy of the game at least somewhat stable. They had to do it, or the whole thing would be rather pointless, and everything would be way too flooded with good items, making the AH more or less obsolete. This probably applies to the whole 'random affixes on almost everything' idea as well, that makes it much much harder to get an item with desired properties for yourself, boosting the auction system once again.

You cannot honestly tell me that if there was no AH in Diablo 3 you would be playing the same game as you are now, at least in regards to drops. Just look at how it's predecessor Diablo 2, or Torchlight 2, which both have no auction house system whatsoever, deal with loot. I'm not necessarily calling those systems superior, as both have many flaws, but look at how legendaries and both lower and higher level set items drop in those games, and than take a look at D3. It is such a huge difference between the games of the same genre that you cannot or should not deny the fact that a lot of things were done specifically in order to make sure that the AH survives and that it stays profitable over a long period of time.

Amen. Torchlight's (And D2s) way of approaching the loot is imho a more fun way. I get uniques every now and then which I end up hoarding and planning new characters and skill builds around. The fact that you can also use 4 uniques to transmute into one random new one is also kinda fun. Wee gambling.

Torchlight 2 is in my opinion what Diablo3 should have been more like. It baffles me how a small company could make a (Arguably) better hack n' slash and a better successor to the Diablo lineage than Blizzaard could. But I guess I had too high hopes for Blizzard. This is after all not their comfort zone (WoW and RTS). Here's to hoping they will get better at it with time.

Until then I'll stick with Torchlight2 and Diablo2 for my hack and slash needs :P

My biggest concern with Diablo 3 is the AH. It's still there, and I still cant opt out of it.

Truth be told, I like where they are going, and they are doing a good job salvaging the wreck that is D3. Personally, I keep an eye out for updates every now and then, because I want to like the game. Sadly, the bad taste in my mouth still lingers from my first playthrough, so I simply cant muster the strength to log on and try all these changes.

Well, whatever, I suppose I shouldn't take a comment like that seriously, seeing how little thought through it was.

One day though. Hopefully, by then they've made an option to not use the AH, and preferably an offline mode :)

You're honestly trying to tell me that you cant see that pretty much the whole game is tailored around the AH?

I recall reading that drop rates were lower due to the fact that AH is another item stream for the players to get items through. Now, if you cut that item stream, perhaps you can find cool items again in D3. Which would be awesome.

Thinking maybe frost arrow and change from SS to the 15% damage on snared mobs passive. Frost Arrows travel way to fast to benefit from SS working on all arrows mid air, and snares targets. Hmmm, while I dislike losing DPS, I kinda like others builds being more viable now :)

posted a message on The social aspect of D3 seems non-existent
    Quote from mavfin

I don't even play public games. I have all my old D2 friends, two WoW guilds, a lot of them bought D3, and a meta-guild (multiple games, met them in Rift) to coop with, on my Btag friend list. I BS with them while playing, whether I'm coop with them at the time or not. Game's plenty social for me.

I love how the pubbie game's lack of socialization is supposedly Blizzard's fault, not the fault of the people who treat the others in pubbie games as robots put there for their playing pleasure, rather than as other people. That's the real issue.

Make some friends and play with them...or are you all a bunch of nerds w/o any? I'm definitely an IT geek, but I have tons of friends to play with.

Edit: I really hate the victim mentality, where it's always someone else's fault.

Well, seems to me most of your friends are friends you made from games where you could do exactly what OP wants, which is why it's so social for you. But if none of your friends are playing the game, what then?

I agree with OP. The new battle.net is a step back/in the wrong direction. Personally, I don't mind is so much myself as many of my friends are playing D3, but I don't see myself making many new friends here.

Also, victim mentality? I didn't really get that from him, just that he is missing some features that made the older games so much more awesome. Just getting randomly assigned to a group of people is not nearly as fun as finding a group yourself. Not to mention less social.

Also, I like how you consider yourself a geek, yet you phrase a bunch of nerds in a negative way. Contradiction much? Not to mention uncalled for.

posted a message on The endgame in Diablo 3 is pathetic, and disapointing
Sometimes I wonder if I am the only one who's really, and I mean REALLY, enjoying the game. It is just about exactly what I anticipated it to be. I really liked the story, I loved the characters, and I am having so much fun running around slaying monsters. Just like I did in Diablo 2.

Sure, the mobs could get smarter instead of one-shotting you. But I'm still having fun (Lots of it) running around like a headless chicken with 3 of my friends trying to overcome Vortex Arcane Jailer + rares.

I think I might be having so much fun because I didn't read so much into the game and lore before I started, and I never expected an MMO endgame. I anticipated Diablo3 being a game with a start and finish, with an option to get geared up with some arbitrary reason (Aside from it being fun that is).

I don't really know where I am going with this, but for every forum post where people vent their anger with things they don't like about the game, there's a guy like me, sitting back and enjoying a game which I have waited for since forever, and most importantly not being disappointed by it. It feels great.

posted a message on [Poll] Anime, Animated or just game?
Who would ever want them to do it as an anime? Does not lend well at all to the atmosphere that would be required by a Diablo movie. Even Hellsing and the likes feels odd.

Would probably prefer the style they use in cinematics.

I'm kind of puzzled by all the talk about competitive games etc. I don't feel Diablo is a competitive game in the sense they are talking about, so I wonder why that would make them a good fit... :P

    Anyway, marketing lol.

I'm sure it's good though, especially the durability stuff. Many a Intellimouse 3.0 has died to Diablo 2.

    Quote from Aztheron

Sorry but I didn't read any of the comments, just some of the OP.
But from what i gathered, no one will play PvP from day one, it's something most people do at the very least after clearing normal mode.
Blizzard pushed PvP back to give the game to us a little early, it will still come, and by then maybe you haven't even reach 60.
So be patient, and please don't generalize every PvE player.

Hehe, I think the major complaint from PvPers isn't that D3 wont be shipping with it, it's more the fact that there is so little support planned for PvP such as ladder, duelling, ganking etc.

Apart from that, you're absolutely right.

Personally I don't mind either or. D3 was never a PvP game for me anyway, I'd much rather play Sc2 or Dota/2 and such. I do think I'll miss the casual duelling part though.

I do foresee that should Blizzard give more support towards the PvP segment that there will be tremendous amounts of tears from both sides about balance and what not. Basically nothing out of the ordinary! :)

EDIT: Now that I read my own post, I noticed there's a distinct lack of yellow smilies in this thread. Smile people! Even if you're not on the same page, we're still gonna play the same game, and love the hell out of it. So smile! :)

Have to say as well that's an awesome, take no prisoners, rant that puts the pvp into posting. Good job Elementz!

Well, I dunno, all I feel he's doing is creating more animosity towards the PvP crowd. But hey, all PR is good PR right, even if it hints of perhaps more whinging and whining from the PvP community in terms of "waaaah Blizzard neglects balancing PvP in Diablo3, waaaah"... ^^
