Civil means not arguing with one another. It's fine to say "look this is what I think is wrong with the game, and they could do X to improve it." That's a legitimate complaint and your personal feelings on the game. What is not okay is to bicker with eachother to no positive end. Constructive discussion on how to better the game if you feel its lacking is good, explaining how the game is a complete failure and never will be good is... well accomplishing what besides arguing? I mean can you at least see what I'm getting at?
If you feel the game is so far gone there's no hope then what do you want to accomplish with a discussion besides leading it into arguing? If you want to discuss things you think the game needs that's a nice discussion and perfectly okay because people can work with that. There has to be room for discussion. I'm not going to allow any posts or topics that are ONLY offering argument instead of discussion. It's not a question of it being a negative thread, we have tons of those.
I understand a good handful of people have problems with the game, that's okay but talk it out. We all love the Diablo franchise and care about the well being of D3 to some extent or we wouldn't be here. Keep that in mind. We're all here because of a mutual love of something and we don't all have to feel the same way about it, but it needs to be presented in a way that isn't automatically offensive to one side or the other.
We're all brothers in arms and I <3 you all. Please keep it civil, don't make it personal, and allow room for differing opinions.
I'm gonna be honest. I'm wondering what kind of world we live in when someone has to have the word "civil" defined to them.
I mean, you don't talk to people outside of a forum the same way you do to people on it, do you? THAT is civil. Pretend that guy making that post before you that you just quoted is, you know, an actual person. Because they ARE an actual person.
That's not really that hard.
On topic, though, how can a game that has minimal group play and no subscription requirement be "dead"? While I have my gripes about the game, and I have certainly slowed to a near stop in playing it, I wouldn't say the game is dead. It wasn't really alive in the first place, considering that most of it was spent solo.
That's like saying Final Fantasy 7 is dead because way fewer people are buying it.
That's like saying Final Fantasy 7 is dead because way fewer people are buying it.
It's so funny that you say that because I have been thinking about re-installing FFVII and playing it for about the 50th time. I just can't get the bug out of my mind. For some reason I've really wanted to play it again lately. I feel like a damned crackhead just looking for a FFVII fix or something. That game was easily one of the best $50 I've invested in entertainment especially for a game which had absolutely no semblence of multiplayer.
I can imagine 10 years from now I'll still want to play it. There's just something about that game. It wasn't perfect, but goddamn did it draw me in from the very first time I saw my friend outside the Chocobo ranch trying to lure a Chocobo out to get across the marsh.
People wanted the game to be difficult, now Blizzard is making it a lot lot lot easier than it already was.
There's a difference between challenging and just plain stupid. For instance, Invulnerable minions aren't challenging they are just fucking just plain stupid. If mobs can go invincible for 10 seconds, i want that ability too.

Working with adobe and/or java is like pushing a paper clip against a building and expecting it to move...
People played D2 because 1) The items and skills were interesting. You could make all different kinds of unique builds with your character. 2) There was a level cap that wasn't easy to reach, so people had a desire to hit 99. 3) D2 had ladders that created some level of consistent competition.
1) I think the main difference is D3 is much harder than D2 so you can't get away with sub-optimal builds anymore. Sure you could beat D2 with anything but the different builds certainly weren't balanced. I'm hoping more builds will be viable in the next patch, but at least from a DH's perspective there are numerous interesting builds in D3 of varying viability levels.
Your honor, i rest my case.

I am in no way a hardcore gamer. Guess you could call me a casual but as far as the world of sanctuary is concerned i sort of get transformed.
the world of d2 was opened up even more after the lod expansion came out. guess it's going to be the same for d3 as well. it's only been a few months since the game came out. they are making changes here and there but obviously cannot satisfy each and every one of us. not going to happen. just waiting to see these patches coming and the expansions as well. then once its all said and done, maybe i'll lean back think about it and decide if the game is dead or not.
I'm a hardcore Diablo nerd and gamer.... and yes, this OP has a point tbh...
I haven't played since... forever. Like in a month. Game became so boring.. and repetitive.. YES EVEN FOR A DIABLO GAME.... it's just... I dunno.... not really challenging or fun anymore... endless rare item hunts.. meh..
I hope 1.0.4 can revive the game for me a little... or im out
What I've basically noticed is that it's very difficult for me to play this game for more than like 2 days at a time. I get sick of it really quickly.
Like I'll start out playing, get a few good rares, maybe make a few million gold, but then it sets in that the next time I login I'm just going to do another MF run and that's when I stop playing.
I really think that a lot of the people who defend the game are those who play casually. It's hard to imagine there are many people who have like 500+ hours played and think this game is great. Maybe I have the wrong standards here, but for me a game should be something you want to keep doing. Ideally a great game is as fun the first hour you play it as the last.
It's easier to have a positive opinion about D3 when you've only been playing it for like 1 hour a day since release. And frankly I find it hard to take those people's opinions too seriously.
If you're used to playing games hardcore, you're likely going to be sick of D3 pretty fast.
500+ hours in three months is roughly 35-45 hours per week, or 5-6 hours per day.
I cannot name a single game which I have genuinely played for 5-6 hours a day for three straight months and not become tired of in some manner. You are taking about a very heavy time commitment - a time commitment beyond what most hardcore WoW raiders put in on progression content.
There is no way that you are NOT talking about burnout here, even if you don't know it, even if you deny it. You're talking about playing D3 almost as much on a weekly basis for the last 3 months that most people spend at work. It's obscene to think that you can spend that much time playing a game and not burn out in some fashion. It's almost illogical.
It's also illogical to basically say that the only people who have a valid perspective on the game are the same group who, generally, are going to be disappointed by the game... yet that's basically your entire point. If you don't play D3 as much on a weekly basis as you go to work then your opinion cannot be taken seriously.
Sorry, I don't buy it. Purposefully-disclusionary statements like that (from both sides) are why half of all threads turn into a fanboys vs haters flame war. We can't have a discussion without someone coming and telling you that if you only play 1-3 hours per day that your opinion is worthless or something else along those lines.
Telling people their opinions are not to be taken seriously because they are not playing the game 40 hours per week is not only rude and presumptuous but disrespectful and inflammatory.

I agree. This is playing to the point that you are causing your own feeling of burnout.
My theory is that the ones playing to that degree are doing so because that is what they have to do in order to feel like they are being rewarded frequently enough by the game. Rather than x reward per hour, they are measuring in x reward per day and squeezing in as many hours as necessary to feel the x number of rewards they need in a day/week or w/e.
Also, I think there is a lot of the flawed hardcore/casual mindset going on here that you see in WoW forums as well. Some people are so determined to call others a "casual" in the most derogatory sense they can that they will do whatever it takes to have the appearance of the 1%. Blizz has made numerous references to the difference in skill between the top 5/10% in WoW and the "average" player. I would be willing to bet if they did the same kind of analysis for D3, there is very little skill difference from top to bottom. This isn't a skill based game but many forum goers want to act like they are special snowflakes.
Oh joy! Another troll-thread complaining about how Blizzard isn't listening to The Right People.
The internet definitely needs more of those.
Dude stop trolling this post, this guy is serious and he has a good point. It's quite obvious, d3 wont be nearly as good as d2 ever was.
D3 already has a larger player base then D2 ever had, it also has more players on at one time RIGHT NOW then D2 ever did.
Reality sure is a sucker punch to troll balls isnt it?
Honestly, Im gonna laugh so damn hard at the internet as a whole when D3 gets an expansion, and it sells like 10 million copies on week 1 again.
lol, Diablo 3 sold on the name alone. And I wouldn't be surprised it having less players than Diablo 2 right now. The fact that it initially sold 10 million means nothing when you look at the user reviews on any gaming website including here. Go check out the 'is diablo 3 boring' thread.

You see, all I have to do, is wait, then laugh.
I can do that.

I'm struggling to imagine a way this thread could ever be civil.
Going to have to agree with this. The entire thread is based upon a faulty and inflammatory premise.
Are we allowed to even criticize Diablo 3? Or is that uncivil?
