hello chaps, non friendly neighborhood fanboy and koolaid drinker here with extremely bias D3 beta impressions. enjoy, or dont idc i have nothing better to do at work.
Interface:
-General:
mostly visually appealing but i wish it had a different "theme", it feels...kinda blah? but its not like that would change the game. just a random thought i had looking at all of it, perhaps a different color scheme?
-Hot bar:
the health and resource globes look pretty sweet and detailed with the statues next to them and i like how when your mana gets low on the WD it looks like the mana is "wooshing" around (that a word?) and you can see the mana dripping around in the globe. idk it just looks sweet, lol.
-Skills/Inventory/BS windows:
i dont see any option to change them, they are effing HUGE and take up 40% of the screen per pane open. its not a big deal its just awkward having them take up so much of the screen when you open it, i almost feel like its zelda when you opened your bag and it basically paused the game and covered the entire screen, except theres no pause. lol
Gameplay:
-General:
same amount of intense action from D2 normal (lawl). but seriously no complaints on the action since i know the difficulty basically triples per difficulty. just one complaint i had from D2 which was MORE MONSTAS! i hate walking for more then a couple seconds and not running into a single mob, or only a single mob. wish they would just increase the amount of mobs everywhere. im sure in inferno ill be saying the opposite since there so strong
Barbarian:
oddly he felt like he killed the slowest out of all the classes, i didnt give any of my classes twink gear so they all felt equal and he felt the slowest. cleave was nice and hammer pwned faces but just felt like he overall killed slower, i know this should change once you get his best AOE skills later like WW and siesmic slam a long with runes of course so im not worried, this was just my impression from the first 13 levels in the beta. Witch Doctor:
by far my favorite class because of his weirdness and diversity in skills along with his pets, LOVE pets for extra laziness. he easily felt the most powerful defense wise and even offensively could destroy groups in seconds with grasp of the dead and firebats. corpse spiders w/ vermin passive were surprisingly strong, just very expensive. looking at the skill calc i just see him getting better n better at surviving and damage but more of a linear damage increase rather then suddenly becoming way more powerful like some of the classes seem to when they unlock their best spells later on. Demon Hunter:
i heard the DH is getting a buff in patch 13 so i wont comment on his weakness. i felt like the DH was the best at manuvering and far ranged annihilation because all of his attacks shoot super fast. my fav skills were entangling shot and chakram. chakram because i could spam the crap out of it and watch them go WOOOOSH around the battle field hitting mobs. if they buff bola shot id def of liked it more then entangling. did not like rapid fire at all surprisingly, way too weak and costs way too much, if you get obsidian rune and the rockets passive i can see it being amazing, but sucky without. Wizard:
Felt pretty powerful with spamming arcane orb and insanely fast regen for his arcane power, but very fragile of course, feels just like the sorc in D2 like a glass cannon. even looking at his defensive skills i dont see there being much hope for being a wiz tank (:P). but it was pretty fun once i hit 13 and got electrocute to go a long with orb spamming. Monk:
Oddly i found the monk to be the most boring like some ppl have said. you spend 80%+ of your time doing spirit generators and your spenders are so expensive they basically just become situational spells rather then constant use like the barbs fury spenders. i dont see this changing at all by looking at the skill calc unless you stack some serious spirit generation gear/skills like http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#YUQhWg!cYd!ZbbbYb or something. he did feel powerful though, i loved his super fast attacks and his generators were still fun to use.
Auction House:
only 2 complaints. when searching for gear you can only search for affixes that arent stats, like i want to search for weapons with strength or intelligence, but i cant. i dont see any way to? if there is a way and im just blind let me know. the other thing was the sorting doesnt work, i wanted to sort it buy price or damage but none of the sorting buttons work.
Gear:
-General:
i really liked all the affixes you could get on gear, i heard some people complaining about one of the affixes that increases health globe/gold pick up radius? why? i LOVE it, once you get like a 10 yard increase it makes it so much nicer for picking up both of those things.
Blacksmith and drops:
all i did in the beta was find a bunch of drops i didnt need/use or sucked then went back to the BS, salvaged all of it and created 100x better gear right off the bat, i dont see this changing at all throughout the game accept when you hit the jackpot and find a legendary/set item. but even looking at the BS plans you can find plans to make some legendary n set items too so idk. i wish better stuff dropped so 99% of my gear isnt all from the BS, but i suppose this makes it easier. i think it just makes gear droppign less excitting because i stopped expecting anything dropping to be good unless it was a golden ring or ammy.
Extreme grammar and spelling fails - i know. i dont care even a little bit.

I agree with what you said about Monk; I was really disappointed with it thus far. Before playing the Beta I really thought I would be maining a Monk, but now it seems as though it feels a bit lacking in the Spirit Spenders department. I hope they make a few improvements.
I love when people say they don't like the Monk. Since he will be my first choice and not very many people will be playing him in the beginning I will start stocking up on high level Monk items so when people DO play him I will be rich be-otch.

i was planning on doing the same with demon hunter, plus they're so effin cool!
Oh, and interestingly, I agree with you, if you swap the monk and WD. The WD was the one I wanted to play the most, but something just didn't seem that fun to play. Conversly, I love the monk. You are right that his spirit builders are the more common attack, you just find ones that fit with your spirit spenders. A good idea is to get a fast attack weapon (fist weapons, IMO), because then you can build spirit and use it a lot faster.
Just doing some simple logic following blizzard, and I can with almost utmost certainty that he won't be able to craft the best gear. If anything he's more of a gap filler for each difficulty; Makes some good items so you can survive that difficulty, but the best need to be found.
You crazy boi. Monk owns serious face. Crippling wave is bad ass; a la free spammable cleave skill that does tons of damage. Yes please.
Way of the Hundred Fists looking fcking AMAZING in all the videos, and seven sided strike will be a killer spender.
Barb kill slowly? You're kidding right? Slower than the Witch Doctor? You are crazy. Leap Attack->Cleave, Cleave-> Hammer-> everything is dead. Maybe you were using shit weapons? Or dual wielding instead of rocking an awesome 2hander? I dunno, but the barb kills shit SO fast...

never said the monk wasnt good, just boring to play. the monk is in fact powerful.
and the barbs cleave has a very small radius and so does his hammer. the WD grasp of the dead is about 3 times bigger then the barbs hammer and annihilates big groups and his firebats is also much larger. so yes the WD kills much faster then the barb.

We are in agreement here, I only wish the whole hotbar were smaller...even on 1080 its large.
i've actually heard this a couple times; What's your monitors size? I know it shouldn't matter but maybe either it's a bug or I just don't see it. In my case (27" monitor) it seems perfect to me, maybe a bit on the small side.
Edit: Well moving the screen from my main 27" to my 24" secondary does indeed change proportions wise (put a tape measure to my screen lol). Hmm idk maybe I'm just used to it
I actually enjoyed the monk, his/her dash is amazing as well as the exploding palm, hit an enemy with it, walk away, gather a group, palm palm palm cast you're life guard, they all blow up, you're at least 200g richer.
did not like rapid fire at all surprisingly, way too weak and costs way too much
Rapid Fire is extremely powerful single target. It's the strongest single target attack DH has in beta, especially with 2 of the crafted rare xbows and Shadow Power (still the best even without that stuff).

single target attacks in diablo have always been fail compared to any AOE accept for bosses (obv). because your encountering groups 80% of the time

Even then half the time AOE spells were the best spell on bosses, too, but that's just because you put ALL your skill points into AOE spells. In D3 this will not be the case and if you run into a boss without a single target attack you're going to kill a lot slower.

i just said its better on bosses. remember? "accept for bosses (obv)" <_<
also in D3 you'll have up to 6 skills so 1 single target is easy to achieve with one of those for when champions/bosses appear

the monk definetly needs so cool spirit users and/or have the cost on said skills reduced. doesnt one of his skills cost 100 spirit, and you only have 150?

yes wave of light cost 100 spirit. although he does have a passive ability that increases his total spirit to 250

For the AH you just search gear for your class and it picks stuff with your primary attributes. That's the default. When you pick attributes from the drop-down you are simply adding more criteria to the default (primary attributes).

really? it seemed to show random stuff with str when i was searching for my WD... gotta try it again
