For a lot of players 2016 marked the death of Diablo 3. No news about upcoming expansion at this year Blizzcon and the info from the last Q&A are clear signals that Diablo 3 has entered maintenance mode. No big changes are coming in 2017. The Challenge Rifts and the Necromancer will be the new additions to the game, but these are no core changes. The developers are happy with the state of the game and what it offers to their casual player base. But is this so for the dedicated player base?
The aim of this thread is to spot the main factors that killed Diablo 3 for the dedicated players. Why these people stopped playing their favorite game? What were the reasons? The results from such poll could be used by the people who design future aRPGs and help them in their work.
You have so many things correct, i voted for like 6 things of these...
Well the never ending grinding GRs is boring, waiting for every season, see what items will be buffed X% and repeat every 3 months...
This game cannot be fixed since we have so many problems, only D4 can make a difference.
One very very simple change would add infinite quality of life improvement to the game for me. Simply allow an option to Keep the UI visible but unclickable. This would essentually make the UI like an overlay.
How might this be important, what does it add to the game you might ask? Well I cant tell you how many times I open up the chat box while in a rift, how many times I have opened up random dialog boxes and inadvertently reset paragon points or something stupid, when all I was trying to do was to move or attack at a far away location. Having the UI clickable while playing uses up valuable real estate that can be used to more easily and more efficiently move and attack.
As it stands now, if Blizzard could please please make this small change, my love of the game would go up exponentially. Thanks in advance :D.
Even considering that saying this can bring a lot of flaming to me, no trading killed it completely.
Granted, it made RMT flourish. But it was core for the diablo experience. Claiming that the horrible itemization or the drop rate were due to the AH is plainly lying or buying their crap. Fortunately, most diablo fans readers are mature enough to see through that crap.
I happened to enjoy it. Now that we are swimming in brown and green rays when playing, does it make your experience more enjoyable? Not mine.
And we should consider that most of the ones left here are those who didn't like trading. The ones that did, or most of us, switched games when decisions were taken; because trading was that important to us.
Apart from that, the unbearable slowness of development is a main reason for me, which isn't covered in your options.
Who is gonna play a game when you know that nothing new -or worth that adjective- is coming in a year?
They are incredibly bad and slow at balancing the game. They just don't test it themselves.
They made an endgame that is dull, repetitive, and fairly unrewarding with +5 mainstat being the primary reward, and they needed new content every season to keep things interesting. Then they stopped providing new content.
It wasn't at all surprising to me that population plunged this year without new content since, what, season 5 or 6?
The only real issue I have is paragon is worth too much. Group Play is worth too much. The spec played in X season isn't changed enough.
They most likely should just have a group and non group GR season unless they can get solo and group clears about even because of legendary gem levels.
Paragon farming is just plain boring. I have hit 2000-2200 in the last 3 seasons each and its just fucking boring. There needs to be some other system in place for after you finish the paragon tree or something.
And obviously spec changes between seasons is practically non existent. Monk will be Gen for the third time. WD will be Firebats. Wiz will be some of the same archon variation. Barb finally might be going back to WW. Crusader will be close between LoN and BH I guess thats alright. DH LoN for what... the 4th season? lol.
Idk they just need to change up what the sets do each season not even just make a diff one better each time. Actually changing how everyone plays each season would be a lot more fun.
The recent, on PTR, changes to GRs is helpful. I still think they should remove pylons all together or at least conduit.
I wouldn't say that the end game is dull... at least not at first.
I've had players pick up D3 over the past year that have been really hooked. Those who've spent the time learning how to spec for max damage output enjoy the process of gearing up and trying new builds/classes.
Unfortunately, the problem with the end game is that it's now too easy to get the gear you need. I remember spending 3 months to get my first T6 build working and whilst that might be too long, spending 1 day or less to be T10 viable is a bit too quick for longevity. I do appreciate that it's this quick for the sake of the season journey (for unlocking the stash tab) but it doesn't help with the longevity of the game.
Personally, I think that they should have included a means in NS to unlock stash tabs (e.g. 2 tabs for hitting P1000, 2 tabs for getting 6000 achievement points) in addition to the Seasonal Conqueror reward. They could have then left out Haedrig's Gift and reduced drops so that it would take 2 weeks to farm up a T10 viable build. This would help prolong the effort required to progress and not made hitting the progression ceiling as quickly.
Well the main reason of D3 "death" is lack of new content obviously. D2 was all about boring farm, so is D3. It'd be fine if Blizzard were to add new content every now and then. They're not doing it, though. Mostly cuz they have better ways to make more money. Yeah, I actually wanna say hearthstone and overwatch are also reasons D3 sucks. Not like I hate HS and OW, both games are awesome.
They don't change it because why change a winning formula, you may disagree but in my clan I've seen at least a few dozen brand new players in the last few months, that's only english speaking players and one's who have crossed my path in the clan. Blizzard don't release results but to their shareholders which they can't lie to by law, Diablo 3 is one of their biggest money earners.
I notice a lot of people complain because the game has gotten stale but have spent a 1000 hours on the game, of course it's going to get stale. D2 only had one big change during it's 12 year run, nothing else, no 3 mth patches with new items and set buffs.
I just don't get the constant complaints from a select few, is this really the only thing you have in your lives. No other game, no real friends just the desire to complain about something that won't change, you know what they say about the definition of insanity.
Top 5 votes currently (25+ voters on each):
1) End game build diversity
2) Paragon/experience system
3) Solo vs group disparity
4) No real economy/trading
5) Itemization (item progression)
I am not surprised at all. I hope Blizzard are taking notes if they decide to make D4 some day.
I would not call it nostalgia tbh. From the top 5 votes D2 lacks only "end game build diversity" when we take PvP as the end game. I too enjoy D3 more, mainly because of its insanely addicting combat, but in terms of RPG elements D2 is clearly the winner.
This thread is not about D2 vs D3, but if you insist that D2 itemization is not more complex than D3, you are either joking or haven't played D2 much. In D2 knowledge of the items and regular builds is power, because of the trading system. A noob player salvages an item the good player will trade for much. There are builds a noob player could never create in a season due to his lack of knowledge what to trade. This is missing in D3. The whole itemization in D3 is A-B-C. I could train a monkey to gear up in D3, equip the green items and play the end game.
About the boring part - more content does not solve the problem. It's a complex itemization and character progression that do it. No matter how much new zones they place in D3 it's still going to be the same old game. Content is not a core system in aRPGs. Diablo is not WoW.
everything hinges on RNG. Drops, rerolls, kadala, just a different RNG.
More boring stats doesnt make it more complex, just more boring. Sayng "complex itemization" looks like a way to look like a cool mature guy who played D2 since game release. Just look at PoE, it's in no way better than D3. Yet people say it is cuz it has like tons of craft components and every one of them is needed. And that talent tree. Saying it makes game better is like saying book can only be good only when it was wrote using kanji and has plot so complex you have to reread it ten times to understand. Well I read naked launch and it has like no plot. Yet I really enjoyed it and it's one of the best novels existing. I just wanna say you shouldn't say shit like "this thing and that is what makes game good or bad". Criteria of being interesting and comparing games using these criteria is just bs made up by bored nerds having nothing better to do than arguing about what is interesting and what isn't. I'm not saying it to insult someone, sorry if it looks like I do. Just try to have some actual fun.
I understand the hatred I am about to receive, but has anyone considered the game is over 4(over 2 for RoS) years old, and if you're bored or hate it that much, maybe it is time to move on? This whole i paid for a game 4 and 2 years ago so i still demand changes be made is a joke. If the game required a subscription, I could understand feeling that you think you are entitled to some updates/changes because you're still paying for it. But in this case you're not. Sure, other "F2P" games are passing along updates, and Blizzard did for quite a few seasons, but that doesn't mean Blizzard has to keep on with them forever. And if you want to compare D3 to those other games, just go play those other games.
None of these ruined the game, the game itself is just fine.
Everyone who votes for one of these issues has something else in common, THEY HAVE PLAYED THE GAME FAR TOO MUCH AND ARE BURNT OUT.
That is the common factor in 99% of people who complain that D3 is dead, yada yada
PLAYERBASE
Dipshits who complain endlessly about a bunch of nothing are what killed the game.
