Now we've got two melee classes, the Monk and the Barb. But the Monk can only use battle staffs and fist weapons according to most. I realize we still have an unannounced class, but most expect that to be ranged, not melee.
So does that mean that all of the polearms, 2h swords, axes, and maces, and all the other standard non-magic-user-wielded weapons be strctly for the Barbarian? If so, that seems a little unfair to the other classes, 50% of the loot being usable/practical for only one class.
I mean there almost has to be a ranged type class, but then again what you say is true so the only conclusion that I really can come to is a hybrid class that is both melee and ranged.
why should people get upset with stuff like that?
so what if barbs can use tons of different weapons and Monks can only use two?
it makes the classes different and unique.
i'd rather have fun classes with cool skills than worry about how many different types of weapons a class can have when in the end most people would only use 1 or maybe 2 types of weapons for their class ever.
Not all types are restricted, the only ones I know for sure 'till know is that the monk is only able to use some sort of battle staffs and fist weapons. Also, there are the auto-stats, that in some sort of way are weapons restrictions.
I want to see a ranged class as the 5th class..I really like the bow an arrow people. If they dont have a ranged class im going to be kinda mad.

I don't think they would leave diablo 3 without a ranged class. What I really wanna see is how they'll make arrows seem amazing like the spells and strikes we already have (by amazing I mean flashy, explosive and such).
But back to the topic, are 2h weapons really restricted to witch doctors and wizards or they couldn't wield it just because of stats?
They would control the drops to make item usefulness drop equally for each class. What your doing now is taking things that a re true for Diablo 2, and applying them to Diablo 3. The drop rate for items in Diablo 2 will certainly not be the case for Diablo 3. Something like this shouldn't be worried about. Blizzard can handle their own on this.
If they can wield them, why would they? It would be as stupid as equipping the Barbarian with a wand... It makes sense that the Barbarian is the only class that can use 2handed weapons with good efficiency because they are so heavy. The Barbarian is extremely item dependant so it is only fair that he can use almost everything he finds.
The problem is that, more than anything else, weapons are dropped regularly. It'll be frustrating for four classes to watch drop after drop be usable only by one other class.
Like someone said, they aren't getting "more" loot, just a variety. Which could end up being a bad thing because they will get a ton of weapons they don't need and barely any armor. I'm sure blizzard will balance it out just fine though.
But, I'm thinking the last class will use light weapons like short swords, daggers and maces.. as well as a bow. It would be cool if they could kind of switch off like by pressing "w" in LOTD, but quicker and flowing better.

Weapon types are restricted to classes now? I'm not really up to date, is this confirmed by Blizz? In any case, it does not bother me.
The only ones I know about were mentioned when the wizard was announced. They said only logical restrictions were being made of then. Like a wizard can't carry a 200 pound battleaxe.. even though it would look pretty funny
And I know now that the monk can only equip fist weapons and a combat bo.. since he was originally thought up to be an unarmed class.
In the end its all math and numbers that determines the dmg output or power of the weapon... which all the variables are controlled by blizzard wheather its a mace a staff or a feather you have in your hand the outcome is gonna be as blizzard intended, if not it just gets nerfed.. this is just a way to contain the lore and make the chars loricaly (no pun intended) accurate both historically and visually

"Always respect the purity of battle. For only in the heart of combat are all pretenses of nobility and quality stripped away, replaced by survival and death."
I don't think there is an actual reason to be complaining about that. Blizzard has already said that drops are gonna be individual, right? So there's no reason for a class to get more drops than other. Sure, the barbarian may get more varied drops, meaning different weapons classes and etc, but other classes will also get varied drops, by multiple stats on weapons. And there's also another thing, blizz might as well create a huge load of class variants, for example Gnarled Staffs, Battle Staffs, and so on, so there are no more weapons available for one class than others. So yeah, I don't see a reason to complain about it.
What weapons did you use as a Sorceress in D2? Staffs and Orbs. The Necromancers used Wands or Daggers. Assassins used Claws or Boots. Amazons used Javelins or Bows/Crossbows
They all had weapons that only they used. The only classes that shared weapons was the non-magic melee classes. The Barbarian, Druid and Paladin.
Characters that rely heavily on weapon damage requires the option to use many different weapons. You can't make the amount of weapons they are using completely equal because it would make the game unbalanced. The only big weapon flaw in D2 was the Bow for the Amazon. A non-elemental Bow Amazon required good bows, but good bows dropped too rarely.
I would never dare to play as a Barbarian if I didn't have atleast 2 or 3 times as many weapon options compared to everyone else
Bad weapon on a Barb = You Suck!
Bad weapon on a Sorc = Still Ok.
Bad weapon on a Necro = Barely Any Difference.
But the case in D3 is much different. It's not a matter of good n bad for different classes. None of the other ones could even equip those items if they wanted to! It's not like every once in a while an orb drops and everyone but the Sorc is mad. It's like a 2h axe drops, the a polearm, then a 2h sword, then a maul, over and over, everyone getting pissed but the Barb. Those drops are just so common and comepletely unequipable by any other class. It'd be like the Pally getting 10 different types of Pally only equipment, all of which drop 50% of the time.
No one will get pissed because even if the barb is getting like 50 drops no one but the barb is going to see them because you cant see others drops anymore. ~_~

Like Wizards can still use longswords and shields, but they can't wield huge 2h weapons. etc.

but then we can always bitch and moan about it (until they release a patch) when it is released and things aren't what it should be
