I know we're not really supposed to discuss moderation in public, but I'd really like to see some kind of action with all the QQ threads about how Blizzard kicked someone's dog and their account got flagged for bad loot.
It's not that discussing drop rates is a bad thing. It's more that individual threads for each person who hits a dry streak and needs to rage on the forums is annoying. I did a quick glance at the first page in General and there are at least four threads about someone's bad luck. Two of the threads are started by the same person.
Is there any way to make the whine threads disappear and attempt to at least condense stuff into productive discussion? I know that having productive discussion about drop rates is difficult because people who aren't experiencing bad drop rates surely aren't running to the forums to whine. So really what you have is a bunch of people with bad luck re-affirming each other in what amounts to a giant circle-jerk, but still there's got to be some way to cut the QQ spam and at least be semi-intelligent, scientific, and productive about the discussion.
15% of the first page on General doesn't need to be the SAME thread with a different author basically saying the same thing. Whether or not it's true, it's exhausting and overbearing.
EDIT
As a suggestion, maybe don't infract people, but just lock the threads (or outright delete them so they DISAPPEAR), and point people to a singular thread? IDK, I'm just spitballing.
Indeed, I think it's toxic to the forums. I left another forum back not long after D3 vanilla's launch because I could not take the kind of negativity that was going on there. I was a long time member there during D2's 1.10 too. Sure, some of it was justified, including the over-tuned Inferno 1.0 and the (badly implemented) tiered drops. Still, it is both depressing and pointless to have every other thread in the general forum to be like that. Eventually, I had a big tirade there, and asked the mods to ban me.
I have been following the forums the last week now, and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth when reading all the posts with people being dissatisfied on the amount of drops they receive or even the lack of drops.
People tend to forget that there is a probability for legendaries to drop. And to increase probability you have to invest more time, but just because you spend a lot of time doesn't mean you will getguaranteeddrops; this would only increase the chance of getting legendaries.
Even with increased MF you could go with stints where you find no drops at all due to bad rolls on mob loot, but a person with no MF or even playing on lowered difficulty could receive drops on the first pack of elites they face.
Kadala is a slot machine! Gambling! Risk of spending your shards with no legendary lootguaranteed. Just because you spent 4000+ shards doesn't mean you should have received a legendary. That's the premise of gambling, the house always wins.
It would be more helpful taking down the data from any runs done, compiling it and then present a case stating that there is a problem with leg drops. These theories that are floating around are nothing more than empty words until they can be proven.
Agreed 100%. I was always a huge fan of the "No Whining" rule on Elitist Jerks forum. I would enjoy reading DiabloFans forums 200% more if a whine thread about loot luck resulted in an instant lock and tempban.
Basically, the answer to this thread is: the moderators agree on this.
There is a caveat, however. What distinguishes a fruitful discussion from a pure "RNG QQ thread" is oftentimes not that simple to determine. We want discussions, and the last thing we want is censorship or turning people's opinions down. Also, let's be honest - from time to time you need to vent. Some people do this internally or offline, others need to let the world know about the injustice. To a certain extent this is okay and should be tolerated; in specific instances it has become too much, though, as you have pointed out.

As I said, deletion is not an option. In general, locking is better than deletion because it also serves as an example for the future to show others that these threads will not stay open if they turn into "whine threads", tinfoil hat theories, or get to a personal level. Deletion of threads only happens if the content of the thread would be malicious for the forum's health in case it stays around (e.g., unauthorized advertisements).
We've had a lot of venting over the past few days, and we have been fairly lenient (maybe even too lenient) on handling these threads. We are going to tighten up the policy a bit and make sure that threads discussing RNG are actually contributing anything - otherwise, for the sake of keeping the activity feed uncluttered, those threads will be locked. In the meantime, keep in mind that the correct way of dealing with what you deem to be "useless threads" is not to post in there, but rather report them. By posting in such threads you actually bump it up yourself on the news feed, doing to others just exactly what you don't like about "useless threads".
No trolling here... Have you been to the D3 forums lately? Have you played the game lately? Or are you one of those players that find great items every ime you log in?
Not only should they buff legendary drop rate, but add a new legendary called "The Whiners Reward" its a Necklace with a pacifier on it.
Im done, but seriously 100% agree. If you are going to QQ do 2 of the following: 1. make it worth reading and give facts make it constructive, etc.
or 2. Identify the problem and offer a solution, don't just complain.
We wont ever stop these real whiners and I am not saying everyone who has had bad luck is a whiner, but there are certain individuals who REALLY need to calm down and realize....RNG is...and will be a bitch sometimes.
Just another reality check for a lot of us players out there battling the RNG in this "social experiment of a game" called D3 ROS.
Just another reality check of the blatant cruel RNG that some accounts suffer.
Just another reality check enlightening us that a "Middle Ground" is needed in obtaining loot in this flawed system.
Just an eye opener for everyone blinded by "RNG is RNG / I'm geared and find loot so everyone else must too" logic.
Have a nice day.
That is a thread OP (still on first page). No questions asked or posed. No substance. Posted purely due to frustration and impatience over gambling.
"Have a nice day".....? Not "What do you guys think" or "how do you people feel about Kadala". If there's no discernible point to the thread, it should be locked immediately.

And if they would boost legend drop even more, it would ruin the game.(1 week gear up and done, bored, quit playing, that's not d3)

Kettle black much?
I didn't realized so many of the threads are started by the same person. Now I think we are dealing with a troll.
Although I'm not shocked that the guy who has created multiple "RNG BROKE" threads is around here flaming people.

If they offer valid discussion then they should stay, But most if not all of them were just rants
