Monster Power - All Values and Benefits for All Difficulties (MF, GF, XP, and iLvL)

  • #1
UPDATE 2: Added a link to the thread going over HP value changes per point of Monster Power. Big thanks to POI5ON for getting the information for the high MP levels.

UPDATE: Added a quick fight between my LvL 11 Wizard and MP10 Leoric for anyone who'd like to see MP10 in action on Normal. Attached at the end of this post.

I noticed everyone was asking about Monster Power XP, MF, and GF gains for inferno and Paragon leveling. I wanted to go a step deeper and see just what Monster Power does for all the difficulties. This is one of the most exciting changes I can think of to happen to low level characters and makes the game far more fun to play if you want a challenge while leveling up. I tried making a Wizard from scratch and it was challenging but fun, especially without using crafting gear at first.

Compiled here is a list of data I was able to pull off the PTR that shows the exact gains to Magic Find, Gold Find, and XP for all difficulties and Monster Power Levels. I've included the video I made on the subject as well as included the video description notes for those who want the details but don't want to see the video. (video will be up in roughly 4 minutes with HD to come shortly after)

Diablo 3 PTR - Monster Power Benefits and Effects

UPDATE: We have a post here on Diablofans showing some HP values in relation to Monster Power in Infero http://www.diablofans.com/topic/72154-patch-105-inferno-mp-0-10-hit-points-chart-wip/

    MF/GF gain with Monster Power:

    That's very informative. Thanks!

Any chance we could also have a list of percentage buffs to HP and damage monsters get at different MP levels?
  • #3
That might be a bit beyond me. I can try to gather some data, but the problem I run across is that monster HP values are somewhat random (they have a set value range much like items) so it's hard to get exact numbers.

If I get a chance after work to get into the PTR for awhile and make some comparisons I'll let you know what I find.

Thank you very much! I had actually considered just posting this in the thread you had already started since the topic is quite similar, however it appeared as if a conversation had already picked up and wasn't sure if it'd be hijacking the thread in some way.

I would like to know that, too. My guess is that mlvl stays the same on normal, nm and hell and only hp and damage go up.

Rings/Amulets have been showing up on the PTR with higher values. Ive seen screen shots of an amulet with 91 crit damage.

Awesome information.. and that Skeleton King with MP10, took so long O_O wish I hadn't lvled all alternates already, would be awesome to see how the game would play on MP10 - maybe on hardcore :P

Unfortunately there's no easy way to know a monster's actual level. Aside from Blizzard actually telling us that monsters of act 1 and 2 were made into mlvl 63's we really had no way to say 100% for sure. The monsters didn't appear to do that much more damage to me (though it was enough to make me play cautiously) so I think they just retain their original level for anything under inferno and just get the HP and damage buffs.

Based on how Blizzard has worded the information about ilvls now, my guess would be yes.

I hope you don't have a problem with death ;) I died so many times on my wizard in normal difficulty from being swarmed or from elites I couldn't kite fast enough. Funny enough I found it fun as hell rather than frustrating. Maybe becuase I knew it was my own fault for turning up the difficulty so high rather than being forced into the difficulty. Honestly I think this makes a big difference on player enjoyment of the game.

It's definitely not something I would do to power level fast. You DO gain a lot of xp for the content you are clearing, you just kill slower so the net gain won't be worth it unless you make some starter gear for it. I got that lvl 11 just by fighting my way to Leoric, no farming of XP, and I actually skipped some areas. Rather than speed, I'd do this for something new, something different, and something that would tax you to play a little bit better to get by. I think crafting my gear may have made my survivability go up a bit too much though. That or it could just be I find Leoric's mechanics very easy.

Was your Wizard decently geared? Is it possible to use the AH on the PTR, and did you use it and spent a ton of gold to get her close to max offense/defense?

If not, were the drops that you got until Leoric pretty good? Did you get to see ilvl 10-15 drop before Leoric (it's not common to, iirc)? How about magic/rare drop rate? Was it insanely higher (as in a few rares dropping from white mobs and elites)?

Looking forward to level secondary Alternates with this system :P I don't care that I already have a Wizard, I'll probably make another one if it's as fun as you're saying it is. It will probably save me a ton of time and stash-space when PvP comes out (not having to switch out gear and specs ;)).

Glad I still have two more characters to level. MP10 will make that grind a lot more enjoyable, though I'm not sure I'll go as high as MP10. It al looks very good. Can't wait to play it.

The gear I had through most of my run was just drops off the floor. The only rare I found was off Leoric himself, but that could just be due to the low values of just about everything that early in the game. The gear I had when i fought Leoric was just some quick gear I crafted before the fight. I didn't even look for primary stats. I think I did get some gear with +intelligence on it that helped out.

What I really enjoyed about leveling on MP10 is that it forced me to use my skills. When I leveled up before, I didn't touch my Wave of Force hardly at all, let alone my Diamond Skin or Frost Nova. I found myself relying on Nova much more often becuase of how many monsters there were and how long they took to kill. It's definitely a rush, though the standard caveat applies of "your mileage may vary" as other classes and players may just find it tedious as these monsters just refuse to die with low gear ;)

If you wanted to see exactly how it was, I saved the stream footage from the night I went from 1-11 on the PTR. I linked it on the Systems post I made. ((UPDATE: Found it! http://www.twitch.tv/rurounikage/b/333377494 there you go. The grind from 1-11 should be sometime after the 1 hr mark, fairly early in the stream))

    correct me if im wrong!

    - When monsterpower is 1 or higher, all monsters become monsterlevel 63.
    - Monsterlevel determines the items affix-value. How high/low the stat of an affix is.

    - The Loot-table for itemlevel doesn't change, regardless of monsterpower increase. So act3 and act4 will remain as the best for itemlevel 61+
    - Itemlevel determines the base stats of the item. Not the affixes.

    - More MF = higher chance to roll more affixes on an item
    - More MF = higher chance to roll a better color of the item (itemquality?) such as legendary, set, rare etc.
    - More MF =/= higher chance to roll a higher itemlevel of an item.
    - More MF =/= higher chance to roll a higher/stronger affix of an item.

This is wrong, along with the level 63 monsters the drop tables are also taken from Act 3.
