IGn article on it. Cheng reckons we can adjust the monster power in ANY difficulty not just inferno, so people can't complain that normal is too easy any more...
"At level 60 players can find various objects to put together a device that will allow them to fight more powerful bosses hidden throughout the game," said Wilson. He wouldn't go into much more detail than that, though, noting that part of the fun is "figuring it out." The hope is that this gives people who are grinding for items something of a "meta game" to enjoy while they're hunting for loot. Completing the Inferno Machine can apparently net you a legendary ring acquirable only through this event."
Probably the only interesting part in this article. Reading anything else is a waste of your time.

Why does this sound like wow? All they need to do now is introduce daily quests and bam! You have Wablo!
Can't wait to find the parts for the infernal machine

So according to the article it sounds like that we have to find every single part of this infernal machine and combine them together. So do we have to do it every time we log in? what about when the only last part of the machine is needed and I DCed, do I start all over again?

Don't think we need to start again each time we log in. I think we can just store the parts in our stash or something but like the parts for the secret level they'll most likely be unsellable and won't be able to put on AH.
When pressed about the timetable for PVP, Wilson simply said "when it's done," adding that the original hope was this year, but they're focused on making its quality up to their standards.
I've just abandoned what hope I had left that PVP would launch in 2012.
Well, I was going to level up some alternate characters, but it seems like waiting until 1.05 hits to do that.
Max Monster Power, Leorics Manor runs in Act 1, Zoltan Kulle runs in Act 2, some Act 3 runs, then do Act 4. Do that with an XP gem and a socketed weapon from level 15 onwards, and you're laughing.
1. Parts, or items, for the infernal machine drop throughout inferno. My guess is bosses (like the thing in D2). I'm going to guess basically 1 boss per act, or maybe random?
2. IM can drop an awesome ring (probably BoP).
3. Most importantly: mob damage will scale up with players 8. This was unclear before, but Wilson made it clear by referencing a need for the defensive skills which were nerfed, to be able to handle the harder monsters in "monster power" mode.
I think the way it is going to work is 8 settings with each one increasing the difficulty. My guess is the mob's hp will go up by like 50% but their dmg by say 5%, per rank. So at the highest setting (if it is 8) the monsters will have 400% more hp and 40% more dmg. This would allow tanky melee to still handle the difficulty without making it outright impossible. I hope they keep in mind that ranged will benefit the most from any increase in damage since they can and will just outright avoid all of it.

Isn't this idea closer to D2's uber bosses than anything in WoW?
I'm fairly excited. Other than Paragon grinding, hunting for Machine pieces sounds like a good mission to me. It'll be great if the pieces are account bound.
I wouldn't want it. Unity can't even roll as a trifecta since it only comes with one random property, even though it's already set to be pretty darn good. I'm going to guess Unity will be incorporated into the loot tables in the future and this "unknown" ring being something else altogether (I hope).

I hope increasing monster power will give more than just extra MF. I personally already god max mf with just paragon lvl 18 and considering cap is 275, there is not point in giving players even more mf.
The cap is 375 with 5x NV.
I assume the drop rate will increase with higher monster power not directly the MF.
Like now act1 we have a% rate for ilvl63, act2 b%, act3-4 c% rate and the pattern will continue with the monster levels until at x monster level we have g% and we want see any more items bellow ilvl60.
this is just like the uber bosses in d2 if they have a torch like item im gonna laugh way to be original guys
Yeah... cause games in the same series never share any features....
Looking forward to this patch, especially the monster power part.
Of course they don't... People have been crying far too much about Diablo III being a copy of Diablo II, too many similar features, they could just be playin Diablo II and blizzard wont listen at all, they only keep putting in shared features!
/sarcasm off
Its true: Blizzard can not win, no matter what they do
People: "This doesn't feel like Diablo!"
Blizz: "Here you go, players8 and uber bosses from Diablo II, we are looking for more ways to give you that feel"
People: "OMG Blizz, stop copying Diablo II!!"
Personally, Im not all that excited considering ill probably not gain anything from theese since I play HC in a far too risky way, causing me to rarely be lvl 60 ):
But I still hope I can reach and stay at 60 and get to try out theese features. Maybe monster power will even make lvling more fun? that would be awesome
Can some1 tell me what system in wow reminds people of uber bosses BTW?
Maybe raids with attunements, but really that ain't seeming a lot like uber bosses to begin with, is it?

EDIT: Ok, that's not completely true; I didn't know you would be handed a legendary ring for completing the infernal machine.
