Items
Diablo has always been about the loot. Killing demons is only fun when you are getting something in return. Diablo III will use the same random drop system as Diablo II but the number of items has been expanded upon.
Equipable Items
Each piece of armor will appear different depending on what class is equipping it.
There will be class specific armor and weapons.
There are 11 armor slots that can be equipped; Belt, Bracers, Boots, Chest, Gloves, Helm, Amulet, Rings (x2), Pants, Shoulders and Shields/Offhand.
There are 9 weapon types excluding class specific types; Axes, Two-Handed Axes, Bows, Crossbows, Daggers, Maces, Two-Handed Maces, Polearms, Spears, Staves and Swords, Two-Handed Swords.
There are 5 quality types of items; Normal (white), Magic (blue), Rare (yellow), Set (green) and Legendary (orange).
Each class has a total of 17 different armor set graphics for Normal, Magic and Rare quality gear, called Tiers. All of the Tiers for all classes can be seen in the videos below.
Tiers were made so that a single look at a character can make the player distinguish his approximate level and progress.
Legendary and Set items will have unique art, stats, names and flavor text.
Non-Equipable
There are four types of gems: Ruby, Topaz, Emerald, and Amethyst.
Gems will be found up to level 8 while the rest must be crafted.
There are fourteen qualities of each gem from chipped through radiant star.
Players are now able to change the color of their armor through the use of Dyes.
There are 24 types of Dyes including two Collector's Edition exclusives.
Players may trade items to be dyed by another player.
Dyed items will revert to their original color when listed on the AH.
Crafting plans will be found as random drops.
Quest and permanent items will not be held in the players inventory.
Potions and Health Orbs
Potions will still be used in the game and are automatically set to hotkey 'Q'.
Potions have a cooldown to stop their continual use.
Diablo III introduces a new concept to the series for health restoration - Health Orbs.
Health Orbs are red orbs that monsters drop occasionally which, when ran over, heal the character and his party, pets and Followers.
Health Orbs are global. This means all players in a party see the same Health Orbs.
All monsters have a chance of dropping a Health Orb.
Elite monsters and Bosses drop Health Orbs on multiple occasions during the fight.
There is an item Affix which increases the amount of health returned by Health Orbs (A list of all Item Affixes can be found here).
Inventory/Stash
Players have a set-sized inventory of 60 spaces.
All items take either one or two spaces of inventory.
Players also have an expandable Stash.
The Stash is account-wide, meaning that it's shared through all the characters on your account.
The Stash can be expanded by paying for addition space and tabs, in the beta you got14 additional slots for 10,000 gold.
Shared Stashes are locked by region.
Hardcore characters use their own shared Stash and have no access to the one for normal characters.
In Multiplayer
When played cooperatively items drop separately for each player. This means each player sees their own loot and not loot that has dropped for the other people in the group.
When picked up and dropped on the ground or traded the items obviously become visible to the other players as well.
Armor looks differently when equipped by the 5 different classes.
So, it would take 2187 Flawless Squares to make a Radiant Star. I think... I'm bad at math.
Where did you see this at? Was it in the Brady guide?

It was on the Best Buy intervew, let me find it.
What is the highest gem level that we can expect to drop?
JayWilson: Tier 5 gems are the highest that drop.
JayWilson Correction: we drop gems up to tier 8.

Sweet, thx. I was really worried about that feature. I like the game, but years to get to Rank14 would have sucked.

Why haven't we seen any information on actual gem stats?
Were they included in the strategy guide? Or is it more a matter of it not being important enough to focus on, so no one decided to release the info?

Is this an indication that two tiers will drop per difficulty?

Check our crafting recap, it has gemstats, also gem stats have been on the offical website for months, which is where I think we link too

Found it a few seconds after posting.
Although, there's still a lack of armor/other stats, and what specific items we'll be to socket. Oh well, will just have to wait until tomorrow when the main site gets updated.
In order of rarity: White, Blue, Yellow and Orange.
Set items are green.
Well, Bashiok stated differently a while back :
"
Legendaries can be a part of a set and have set bonuses. There's no separate item type for sets. They're all orange.
Edit: Come to think of it, that blue post is a bit old. It might just as well been changed since then... Haven't seen any blues mentioning it though which is where my confusion lies in.
I'm going by experience. Although I didn't find a legendary in the beta, I saw a video of someone finding one. Plus, diablo3.com has a large number of items on the site. I haven't seen any colors than the ones I mentioned.
The ceremonial masks have to be the coolest looking class-specific item. The mighty weapons look cool too, but there is more artistry in the ceremonial masks.

I want to travel to exotic places, meet interesting people. And then throw spider-filled jars of pottery at them.
Hey, first post there ! Before two little questions, i want to apologize in advance for my bad english.
So, here are the questions :
1) What are the estimated drop rate of a legendary item on a normal mob and a elite one without mf ? For example, is it more like 1/1000, 1/10.000 or 1/10.000 on a normal mob ?
2) Are we sure that there is not some sort of "minimal affixe" that high tiers items can roll ? Can we really have a lv 60 item with very low affix such as +5 dexterity ?
Thank you for the awnsers !
1)No idea. So far a secret.
2)As far as we know there is "minimal affixe". If you find a lvl60 item on let's say act4 inferno it may either
a-have a chance of getting a tier12,13 or 14 affix
b-always get a specific tier affix.
Within each tier there is some variation ofc. A tier13 dex belt affix would have from 112 to 129 dex.
I don't know if it's a or b, i'd bet it's b so we have more variety.
Even if you find a poor lvl60 item it'll not be as bad as a lvl30.

Should it not be 729?
T9=3xT8
T10=9xT8
T11=27xT8
T12=81xT8
T13=243xT8
T14=729xT8
Or is the online game guide wrong in showing only 14 tiers?
