Can games like StarCraft II and Diablo III survive in a console dominated market?
Of course. Why not?
You don't think consoles were dominating in the SNES era? If anything, PCs have a BIGGER foothold in today's gaming than it did in those days. Pach was way off on this one, there are FAQs and official announcements to disprove his theory on battle.net fees.
As far as upgradeable consoles, no it's not called a PC. A PC is called a PC. He's wondering if you're going to be able to have external upgrades for CONSOLES. Remember the expansion pack for n64? That was a RAM upgrade iirc. Frankly, I'm shocked that other consoles haven't followed suit with this method. It would be great to upgrade the video card of a console for instance. Think about which cards were out during the time the 360 was released. Ancient, very ancient. Buy an external hd5770 and we're back in business.
It's a link to an interview, not a question or statement really.
And TBH it is a good question. How many PC-exclusive non-MMO titles are coming out anymore? Sure Blizzard will make more than enough money to support themselves on the next 2 games, but most developers don't, and how long till Blizzard starts favoring console $$$?
PC and console games play completely differently and are tailored to completely different play styles and tastes. RTS's are next to impossible on consoles and extremely mod-able games are un-modifiable on consoles*. Until I start seeing a keyboard and mouse packaged with consoles, I don't think there is any real reason to worry*. This has been a question for over a decade, and I'm not seeing any decline in awesome PC titles, just more console titles, and most of them are shitty.
*Given, yes, the PS3 has USB ports and does support this hardware, but it's games do not take advantage of it. *For instance, just to pull a random game out of the air, Oblivion sucks for consoles because you can't mod it like you can with the PC version, thereby making it an entirely different game. That's no stretch. Thousands of people in online modding communities for it will swear by the PC version. (Although, I guess there are games like Little Big Planet, but even that is limited.)
Upgradable consoles? yeah, that really made me laugh. We have the most advanced -consoles-, upgradable, supports all kind of controllers, supports EVERYTHING! Its called a PC! Oh, but wait, no one wants that. Instead of making the PC world more friendly and all that, lets just make separate console and split gaming forever.
Consoles is a stupid trend that still works and it continues just for the sake of retarded competition. But yeah, they are dominant. PC gaming won't go away, but its easy to see that PC doesn't get as much as consoles do.
But take Dragon Age: Origins. This is the latest PC game that actually was any good in quite a while and a LOT of PC users bought it (or pirated it). Considering its also a purely single player game, its popularity is impressive. And to top it off, its not a PC exclusive.
So yes, Diablo 3 will have no problem whatsoever to "survive".
This consoles vs PC debate has been going on for eternity. PC games aren't going anywhere. PC's are upgradeable, much more powerful than any console, and offer much more precise control for games like D3, SC2 etc. And of course many PC titles are modable, something you won't see on a console. It is true however, that some former PC developers have gotten lazy and don't want to go through the trouble to make a game that will run on many different computer systems, which is unfortunate.
Luckily we still have companies like Blizzard, Bioware and Bethesda still supporting the PC gamers..
With the amount of people playing Xbox Live and what not, I think it would benefit Blizzard to release D3 for the PC first, then release it for the consoles later. That would take away any kind of competition they may have with Xboxs, PS and whatever.

D3 will likely get released for consoles. But not right away. Probably similar to Diablo 1 being released for Playstation 2 a year later. It's not in their best interest anyway. If the game is only available for PC at first, many console owners who also own a PC will get the game for that platform, thus maximizing sales for the PC version..

Yes, exactly. Not a statement. Just a copy of the text of the interview movie.
The video is approx 2 min with info about SC2 and D3.

Your URL failed to substantiate those claims. Good article though. Would you care to elaborate?
