first off item grabbers should be a nonfactor... noone forces you to play with the people or bots who use these programs. the fact that you have a chance of getting those items off of there killing and magic find is a blessing. i know many of times i would not be as rich as i was, i never had any mf but i played with people i know and trusted and we shared the drops.

Oh like you always know when people are using them? Right behind their names it says "I USE ITEM GRABBER!"
It's when you're in a game and finally get a good loot drop and then they snatch it all up with their lame program.

I suppose the good thing is you don't have to just click as fast you can like a retard when a boss dies and not even know what dropped until you look at it in your inventory later on. This way you can focus on actually killing the boss and any lingering monsters after the bosses death instead of dying because the Fallen Shaman you forgot to kill shot a fireball at you when you were at 1hp from poison after killing Andariel Lol.
No but seriously, this system leaves a lot up to the RNG. TOO much up to the RNG if you ask me, or any other fast clicker (Not a pickit-wielding cunt) that likes to at least 10% of the time against the item grabbers be in control of getting what they click on.
Like everything else thus far, it's just something new and different that we will get used to. Maybe this system will promote others to be more considerate in the game. Those players that are assfaces and don't give/trade items to the players said items are better suited for (provided they participated in the killing of monster that dropped said item) by their own accord, will be shitlisted like in other games where a basic level of camaraderie is expected. That would be a nice change from the D2 crowd.
there was nothing wrong the the old FFA drop system.... ive beaten out item grabbers(pickit) on baal bots all the time. to me it seems like diablo is an everyman for themselves type of game and i have a feeling that, with all these changes d3 is going to suck.
then dont buy/play it and gtfo

well, like will_I_am said, I think this wil make the MF a lot easier. Because now it will probably only affect the items you'll see, and maybe the other ones in a minor degree, giving you an advantage if you group up with another player in MF-gear:
your MF is 100%, and your friends is 100% also, maybe they'll add in a percentage based buff on top of your own MF, based on what the other player has, so let's say 10% of the other payer, that would give you 110% MF, this would be a nice bonus. Add player nr. 3 with 100%, but now the bonus is 6%, giving you 112% etc. You can probably work out a nice system where this would work. Sounds pretty good to me to be honest.
Also, I would want to be able to go inside a log to see what other players got dropped. Or have the option to set a couple of parameters that say: 'warn me if another player gets dropped an item with the following stats". That way you can pm that player and request a trade (and obviously, the ability to turn it off to prevent the "omgz i NEEDZ it" spam whispers.
It's not that I don't like the sound of this new system because I am (or more accurately - 'used') an item grabber in D2. The reason I don't like it is because this gives me the feeling that I'm gonna be sitting in a game with random people, and something is going to drop off a boss that I am going to very much wish I had at least the CHANCE to pick up myself. But instead thanks to this crap I now have to pay/trade the guy that it dropped for when I was there and took part in the killing of said boss just as much as he. If they are going to do something gay like this, they SHOULD implement a rolling system like WoW. That way at least you can say, "hey guys, I really need that particular item. Is it cool if I take it?" instead of having to pay for something you should have had the chance to pick up in the first place. Just seems like it's going to be very screwy and cause a lot more bitching than actually ending it.
Edit: If you think about it, this is actually promoting soloing over playing cooperatively unless they are also implementing diminishing return to the amount of drops against players in the game. I, as a huge fan of mfing for all my own riches, never mfed in public games in D2. This is going to make me want to do it much less. Hell I'll even level alone if it means I don't have to be pissed off at some point because some useless caster got a massive axe I should have been able to pick up.
Considering the reasons you are giving, you would probably serve yourself (and everyone else) better by sticking to a solo playstyle. That is not a flame, that's an honest observation.
There are some people that just do better by themselves, and there's no shame in it.
Cheers,
SmashBoy (moonlights occasionally as SoloBoy)
It isn't a matter of being greedy, or impatient. If it didn't drop, oh well. Or if it did and some one else who also needed it got it.. No biggie either. What I'm saying is a witchdoctor getting a big rare sword when there was a barb there who could use it.
I guess I am just being pessimistic, but I would hate to be that poor barb when the witchdoctor turns out to be the greedy one and won't sell it to the barb (which is unnecessary in the first place). At least if I missed the click it's my own fault for being slow.. meh.
Is it the majority's fault for not using item grabbers, then? Because they are just "too slow", after all.
Cheers,
SmashBoy (chants "...and justice for all" dressed like HetfieldBoy)

Anyways, I think that the new looting system will actually work to a pretty good advantage for most of us. I remember when D2 first started even though there was a small number of greedy players online, for the most part, I met friendly, willing to cooperate people who would give each other items and what not. That's one thing that made B.Net fun when the game first came out to me at least! The way they have it set up so far seems to be a pretty good solution to the ignore-the-boss-clickclickclick tactic

Why didn't you drop all your gear on death in Diablo 2 then? It was a very basic element in Diablo 1 and added to the competativeness of not dying or your screwed. Sometimes things need to be changed
FFA was hardly what made Diablo... Diablo. I prefer a system where I don't have to fight for items and that I can actually focus on what makes Diablo fun. Killing baddies. Plus I usually play a ranged class and it sucks when you have to be away from monsters to not get hit, but in melee range to get the item first. Its counter-productive.
Whats makes Diablo Diablo is not what we've played but what ever they decide it to be. They are the designers, the creators, the producers, the artists and the directors...if anyone can't see this then I suggest that Diablo 3 isnt a game for you...things change, things evolve thats how the world works. The over-all game if NOTHING is changed right now, to me at least, is going to be excellent!
And if people are upset about not staying true to the "Diablo" name, then we might as well have had ZERO graphics upgrade from the first one, no new classes, no new items, no new bosses, no new nothing, simply lets just release the same first Diablo over and over and over again so no one has to ever deal with any kind of change or over-hall...now thats staying true.
The only reason people are upset is because they have played BASICALLY THE SAME game for around 10 years...its hard to change from that...but eh thats how it works so deal with it...I've said it before and I'll say it again, if Blizzard were to put a level with nothing but frilly bunnys and rainbows SMACK DAB in the middle of Diablo3 and say "This is true to Diablo" then it would be...its THEIR game not ours...we choose to buy it, or we don't...thats how it works, they dictate the game, they dictate the content and make-up, we give suggestions, contructive suggestions which they DO NOT have to follow AT ALL and I'm sure 98% of the complainers will BUY the game and spend well over 13 hours of each day playing it...

"D3 is too light, Diablo is supposed to be a dark game" Did you create it? Do you know exactly what the intended purpose for Diablo is? Imo, if you want a game that has a ENTIRELY dark and gloomy atmosphere...make one. It don't have the patience or know-how to create a game tailored to YOUR specifics...then shutty and deal with it cause your S.o.L unless you just don't want to buy it.

You are looking at it the wrong way I think. Instead of having one roll to drop loot, there is one roll per person. This will add to the overall quantity of stuff that drops - though they are obviously going to 'dial back' the drop rate compared to D2. Additionally, the blizz post indicated that there would be a bonus to drop rates based on number of people in the immediate party - not enough to make solo a joke, but enough to encourage team play.
Example: I would prefer to do 8man Meph or Baal, but my chances of actually snatching something really good that drops are really low in comparison to doing solo runs, where everything is mine. If there was a drop before - like some rune or unique - and some dude ninja'd it... there have been people that follow him around game to game incessantly begging/threatening for it, or people bring in 80 mules to try and trade for it. It essentially has just killed your party and quest game.
This eliminates that. If you are a giving person, then you can offer your loot to people or keep it for yourself, if you are a douche, then no one has to know that you keep everything you don't need. And, if you are a slow clicker, you still have a shot at getting something decent, if you participate in the battle. The point is that it doesn't immediately create conflict in parties by someone getting a rare or wanted item. It will encourage more people to play in random/public parties with other people.
Wow, cool. Now you got to tell me how switching that model is magically increasing the space? If anything it will decrease when a tiny emerald suddenly uses the same space a full body armor, ever thougth of that?
There maybe arguments against tetris style, but space is not one of them. And there are good arguments for tetris style, which admittedly become obsolete if the game is dumbed down more.
We still do not know if gems stack. If so it will remedy that problem.
I'm more happy with this system than d2 system, item grabbers and everyone not killing the boss spamming on the ground waiting for items to drop isn't really fun. This new way will make grouping with random players I don't know a lot more viable than in the past.
you say all these things are improvements, but they really arent they are only going to destroy the game.
any ever play socom 2?
