Just wanted to share my thoughts on 2.0 builds I've seen and the notification that I haven't seen DS in many of them. It could be just personal reference but with the TR change (Movement speed is not increased above the 25% cap, which pretty much killed my enjoyment for the whole build), my Monk just felt utterly slow getting from A to B. DS (with WotFS) works above the 25% cap and currently I am having hard time leaving it out in builds I've been testing.
What do you think? Am I overvaluing this skill? I guess the pinpoint questions is: Can you effectively grind through mobs equally fast (or faster) without DS? I like challenge so I've been doing T3 runs with my somewhat under-geared monk and avoiding those poison pits, lasers and ice traps is the #1 thing to keep you monk happy (Druin ^^) and healthy.
It also seems to go well with the way the game is being aligned in doing more meaningful decisions (both in skills and in gameplay). DS gives me the tool to position myself correctly for battles and advance from battle to battle. Setup wise, I'd like to add that DS + CS is pretty much being the baseline for the sheer joy of lighting fast trans-location and instant mob gathering.
dashing strike is addictive as fuck now doubt but my monk i went on a nice build life per second i got mantra of healing sustance which gicves 1600 + another % from your current life per second i added water ally that gives antoher 826 life per second and i got the rodnal rough stone ring that gives 650 life per second and 88% based on your missing life and inner sancturary with the first rune that gives more life per second im regenerating 5800 life per sec without inner and missing life and i can face tank the crap out of elites torment 4 and im having a great time with only 23% ms with no dashing strike its kinda hard getting used to it but it was worth it
I'm addicted to Teleport as a Wizard main, so whenever I play the Monk I always take Dashing Strike with Barrage rune. The skill is so much better in 2.0 because it doesn't require a target to dash full distance.
Haha, basically this. I can't play a Monk with DS, but I also can't play a Barb without Leap/Charge, a Wizard without Teleport, a DH without Vault or a WD without Spirit Walk.
At the same time, I feel like they really hit a sweet spot where, as amazing as DS is, you still feel good changing it up for a little while. I always end up putting it back on the bar after a couple of hours, though

Yeh, sounds fun to say the least If I can get rid of this "xp/legenaries per hour" thinking, I'd surely give it a try. Sad to admit though, the game has recently pushed me in that narrow space where the only things that matter are the above mentioned ratios. Diablo: "Farming faster to be able to farm faster until faceroll T6" I guess that pretty much sums up the lifecycle of this game for me
Maybe I just need to gather my friends in a group and have a couple of beers. Then have the "more dmg per spirit generator usage" passive, put on all generators, dmg aura+owe and start pushing those Bells
I know what you mean, I'm also addicted to it. While not the most efficient build out there, the one I'm using right now is definitely the most fun Monk build I've played since D3 released.
Fists of Thunder: Thunderclap
Mantra of Conviction: Overawe (switch to Intimidation on higher difficulty)
Dashing Strike: Barrage
Cyclone Strike: Eye of the Storm
Blinding Flash: Faith in the Light
Sweeping Wind: Cyclone

I tried maximizing Lightning % damage with this build, to take advantage of WKL.
Basically, DS in the middle of a group of enemies, MoC, BF and spam CS. DS a bit farther, refresh MoC, spam CS. Repeat. Sounds dumb on paper, in practice it's über fun. Against elites, you can rely on CS when you've created a good opening, DS to get out of stuff + use it as decent CD with Barrage, CS elites out of desecrates, etc.
I've tried this build without DS to use a more efficient, more powerful CD. It just doesn't work.
I prefer DS mainly because it gives me speed at demand, and gets me out of CC like Jailer.
This. It works both as a "get me to the killing NOW" and as an "OH SHIT" button. Selfishly, I also like that I can use it to grab chests that aren't right on my main path
Cant link the itme but i got a fist weapon that has a really cool secoundary effect. If i teleport to an enemy 35 yards away or further, it does not use a charge. Iv been doing runs today from act 1 to act 4 in just under 1 hour and 20 minutes on T2. I was in a party and we were killing all elite packs, they just stayed in town and teleported to me whenever i found a rare.
Some times, i got lucky and teleported well over 15 times without stopping, best feeling iv had since the patch!
Also, i got some bracers that grants me 50% movementspeed whenever i destroy an object. With these 2 items it just goes crazy fast and its a lot of fun! 25% from items / paragon. 10% from Fleet footed. 50% from bracers. Fleeting shrine. My god it felt like i was going supersonic!
My Monk no longer has access to Dashing Strike, Sweeping Wind, or Exploding Palm ever since I downloaded the new patch. I hadn't played the game in a while, but wanted to warm up for the expansion. I downloaded the latest patch, and now I have no access to any of those skills. I have heard nothing yet from Blizzard, and it sucks, because people keep talking about how awesome DS in particular is, but I don't get to play with it.
I been going nutz with my monk and DS is a must. The build I am using on my monk atm can withstand any damage and go toe to toe with any elite. And boss's are a piece of cake.

I think it all depends on if you want to live without it. Personally, with Barbs and Crusaders out there being slower and more lumbery, I'd rather my Monk be speedy and nimble around the battlefield. Then again, there are ways to build a 2.0 Monk without Dashing Strike. Stack lots of All Res, lots of Life Regen/Life on Hit/Vitality, take skills like Serenity and Inner Sanctuary, and you can build a tougher Monk that doesn't need to be as fast or escape danger as much because they can tank more.
I do agree that DS is definitely addictive. I remember before 2.0, Serenity was pretty much mandatory because Monks were just a different kind of Barb in the sense that they were both melee but one dodged inherently and the other soaked damage with armor. Now, Monks can stand a bit more uniquely in the melee department dashing around the battlefield and dodging blows. Makes for a more engaging playstyle than mandatory Serenity did.

Enable "Elective Mode" in options, under Gameplay.
