As many people know, there have been massive bans in the last few months and these bans are continuing to happen. Most of these bans are due to hacks, however a large number of people have been banned for no justifiable reason. I received a ban a few backs for using d2loader after logging onto d2 for the first time in atleast 6 months. The last time I played loader was epidemic amongst the community of players and there had been no bans aimed at its use. I understand loader violates terms and is a program that is a dock for allot of hacks but I was using it innocently to fix a problem blizzard should have fixed ALONG time ago. I took no harsh feeling from it as it was the first ban Iv received and decided to go out and buy the chest edition as opposed to attaining cheaper keys online. I cleaned out my d2 folder after un-installation and reinstalled with new keys, only to find my account had aswell been banned. So I started from scratch again, after a grueling 12+ hours of play I retired for the night only to wake up the next morning to log onto a banned cd key and prosumably account. I did not use any 3rd party launch program of any sort, my diablo folder is completely clean of foreign files or folders aswell as my computer being completely free of virus' or close to any malware.
I have spent hours in the last days lerking forums and mirc looking for justifications. It seems there is community outrage by large numbers of people many of whom claim to have received unjustifiable bans the same as my last. I cannot speak for these people but I can speak for myself, I have NEVER used any 3rd party program for any blizzard online game except d2loader and after that ban I completely removed it and reinstalled. There is absolutely no justification behind my ban.
Its sad to see that blizzard has completely lost control over this games closed online play, it is polluted by dupes, bots and maphackers and these bans have clearly FAILED to control these problems in any way at all and have caused genuine players grief. Blizzard takes extreme stances on hackers and pushes the moral boundaries to protect there games (warden) (eula) yet they neglect to fix some of the most easily fixed gameplay ruining problems, then when a user takes measures to fix these problems themselves they get hit with the ban stick.
This is the straw that broke the cammels back for me, I will not be renewing my subscription to wow for ulduar or buying any more copies of diablo 2. Imo blizzard needs to look hard at how they are falling from one of the great game production companies into a mediocre company thats main gole is too keep share holders happy.
I would like to hear from anybody who has been or is in the same position, or how others would personally deal with being unjustifiably banned....
The exact same thing happened to me about a week ago. I had D2 Loader installed and upon launching the game with it (no map hacks, no nothing, just clicked the shortcut I always clicked) I found myself banned within hours.
Yes, I agree that you should contact blizzard and let them know your mishap.
From one end the bans seem unjustified, but it was a third party progrma.
If you can think back and remember, the community was complaining for ages that diablo is riddles with hackers and they need to actually do something about it. Well, it seems like they are doing something about it doesn't it?

Well... define "justifiable" because it seems like you're missing something.
1) You broke the ToS
2) You got caught
3) You take the consequences
People are so upset when they're caught breaking the rules. I can completely understand why d2loader is against their ToS. It gives the player an unfair advantage against others by enabling you to have to characters in a game on a single computer.
Your ban is completely justifiable.
Solution: DON'T USE D2LOADER
[EDIT] Their inability to fix bots and dupers notwithstanding, you still didn't follow ToS. I wish they had security measures that fixed it all. And as a sidenote - it's not like some person is sifting through everything. They have a system that tags you and bans you.
I personally enjoy playing with a lot less d2loaders. Especially obnoxious when you are playing Hardcore when a lot is actually at stake. Whatever your lame excuse was to use the d2loader, it is a virus that has plagued the Diablo games since the Bobafett trainer.
Good riddance..

While I don't agree with DII's policy on 3rd party programs (if you want to restrict good programs please fix your goddamn game), when you use one, you are taking a risk and being punished for it if you got caught isn't something to complain about to a company that deliberately told you not to do so.
I'm one of the people who did not get banned and that's hilarious because some other guy uses my key now... lol
I don't get how you guys can still play Diablo 2 over BNet with the many problem there are =D
I gave up quite a while ago (couple of years now).. I'm just playing D2 today because of D3 hype and modded (check my sig), and even so it's only fun with friends..
Nowadays I actually try to fiind time to play other titles while D3 doesn't come.. Currently playing the X-Mens: Origins - Wolverine, and man, talk about amazing.. Anyone who enjoyed God of War will have some fun with it, despite the repetitiveness of combat
Also playing BRAID, an amazing puzzle game with a time-bending theme, trying to get the last puzzle pieces on the last 2 worlds.. And playing Left 4 Dead every now and then through Garena (where I can find hosts with good speed - STEAM sucks like hell, only 500 ping)..
I got banned for using maphack a while back, never cheated again. It's very likely you still had registry keys present from d2loader which caused the game to think you were still hacking. All I can say is once you get banned, you SHOULD learn to be very careful from that point on. Uninstall, clear D2 folder, clean registry... You might be able to talk to Blizzard about it, but they usually don't listen to complaints about banned keys.

lost my second account for using that.. oh well

The only reason I used maphack was because EVERYONE used it. I'm saying maybe 1 in 5 people DIDN'T use maphack. Now that it's gone I realize I like the game better without it anyways

But have you tried contacting Blizzard about it? Maybe see if you can reason with them at all for a non permanent ban?

Might of been a freak happening, I'd say go talk to Blizz about it.
Or, gods forbid, you got perma-IP banned...
(Perma-IP banned seems like a little much for just using D2loader...)
If you can post a screenshot of the message, perhaps there is another way around it.
Good riddance..

I still think it had to do with your IP, and if I were you, I'd get in contact with Blizzard.
However, it won't be easy. You broke rules, and if you live in the USA (based on my knowledge), you broke law. Good luck.
One rule about me:
If I'm going to tolerate your insanity, you will tolerate mine.
Almost all men can stand adversity. If you want to test a mans character, give him power.
You see what power is; holding someone else's fear in your hand and showing it to them.
