Rifts are definitely my favorite way to farm at the moment. The super shrines are amazing, and the locations and random mobs are fun (some can be frustrating though). I noticed a little increase in my luck with legendaries last night, and I'm planning on doing more rifts this weekend.
All diablo is is farming. Why does it matter how people farm?
It doesn't matter, typically, until people start doing things that are obviously out-of-bounds.... like farming chests... or ashes.
The game isn't called Chest Hunt 3: The Search for Malathiel's Hidden Cache.
Sure the game isn't called "Chest Hunt 3". There is nothing in the game that is forcing you to just farm Chests so I don't get why people are bent out of shape. I don't think chest farming is fun so I don't do it and the people that are farming in a different way has zero effect on my game when I log in.
Edit: Say tonight I farm in a way that you guys deem unacceptable how does that affect your game?

Well it's a hack-and-slash ARPG. Chests and breakables should be fun when they are in ADDITION to killing monsters. The problem is when they become a complete replacement... the game stops being an ARPG. It becomes a game where you just find the best path to open chests. So, like I said, this game isn't called "Chest Hunt 3." The FOCUS of the game is not opening chests. When people make opening chests the FOCUS of the game then they change it up because that was never the intended focus of ANY game in the genre... ever.
I'm not sure how that's a complex concept. There is a general framework upon which the game is built. One of the pieces of that framework is that the focus of the game is killing monsters. Opening chests is not killing monsters. Complicated, right?

It's not complicated at all. I kill monsters and find loot. I never did a chest run. Some other people did. So how did that become a replacement for the game? it didn't. Did you do chest runs when you heard about them just because other people were doing them? I don't care how someone else plays this game. It has ZERO affect on my play experience. It's a single player ARPG, there is not PVP or any competiton. With no competitive aspect to this game it shouldn't bother people if someone played the game differently then they do.
Did the game force you to farm chests? No it didn't.
Did your individual play experience change because others fared chests? No it didn't
So the Game is still FOCUSED around killing monsters. There are just some people that want to play differently. I don't get why that is just a hard thing for others to understand.

Technically the game didn't *force* anyone to use the auction house either.
But we know that, even though Jay Wilson wasn't pointing a gun at anyone's head, millions of people still felt like the AH provided the best risk vs reward. And that's almost certainly why chests are being nerfed. There isn't anything inherently bad about opening chests, but because opening a chest has inherently less risk than fighting elite packs and such, their reward should be less.
If chests become even slightly competitive with killing monsters that means the entire risk vs reward paradigm has been violated and, over time, people will just migrate to the method that gives them the best return on their risk. Bottom line is that once you eliminate the risk from the equation someone has to step in and make sure that the rewards are commensurate with the lowered risk.
And that's the whole problem with your argument. Chests and breakables were tuned to be something that you do WHILE killing monsters. Then some idiots say "hey, what if I only do chests?" and get similar rewards without any risk. Now Blizzard has to do something about it because, during the BoA discussion, they doubled down on the fact that killing monsters is the "right" way to play the game.
For them to not take a stance on chest farming would lead to them directly being criticized for their justification for BoA. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, afterall.
Wait im missing something, did they nerf the chest drop rate or just remove that chest? Because I have another area that I like to farm chests from that has basically no monsters and has 2-3 chests for a run that takes seconds. Before people start saying I should farm rifts I will answer that I do farm rifts with my barb/monk but I have never been good at surviving with most ranged char (im good with wd but thats it). The wiz isnt horrible now that he has those abilities to give shield and can tank better but the dh is just not good for me (she seems to die in seconds when playing solo).

The number of chests that spawn in the following zones has been reduced:*
Core of Arreat
Briarthorn Cemetary
Battlefields of Eternity
Crag of Eternity
Demonic Vessels were using the incorrect loot table, and now give less generous loot.*
This also causes rifts that spawn using these maps to have less loot, many of the chests opened are empty now.
Really is sad that they can't do better then this and just respond by nerfing shit into the ground and ruining the experience and excitement of getting loot in a loot driven game.

You whiny baby, as has clearly been stated, it's supposed to be a game about killing monsters. Stop being such a feeble loser and kill some damn monsters, instead of running away from them, popping chests, and restarting the game.
What do you even want the loot FOR? Seems that once you've got +12% movement speed on boots you don't need any upgrades for your chosen playstyle.

The only thing that's "really sad" is people who load up an ARPG and try to do everything in their power to avoid killing monsters.
You might want to try Tetris. You don't have to kill monsters in that game.
It would be silly that their main addition to the endgame be equaled or trumped in reward by a few chests. Not only that, but there's more longevity for player base retention as a whole when the game play is more dynamic than running the best box in the game over and over.
I like knowing that the game I play rewards those who actually play. It gives the game validity. And if that's not the game's headed then that's fine, since ideal game design is subjective. But that's not what I want out of my game, so I would probably stop playing. And so would others.
I quit Vanilla because AH took away any sense of accomplishment I got from loot farming for sub par upgrades. No harm done.

You're really slow or did the post go over your head?
We've been running rifts now since the hotfix went live and we the regular... casual player are being punished by this nerf.
The rifts that load using those maps have their chests nerfed, they constantly open up empty and the overall level of those maps drop less loot.
It's not that big of deal, but overall it hurts that aspect of the game and makes those maps less fun to run through when they pop for rifts.

Are there any more similar chest run like COA?
Thanks
