Has anyone else ran into this vague error message? I just randomly got kicked out of my game with this message and it cost me over a million gold and my 5 stacks of valor. I had just killed a rare pack and finished IDing the items (1 was a ilvl 63 1 hander with decent amount of str, socket, and 850 dps). I then got the message and was booted from my game. To my horror, my loot on my character had rolled back to before the rare kill Yeah it's only a million or two... but comeon... that's pretty lame. What caused it?
I'm guessing there's no way to get my item back since blizzard doesn't really offer any customer support.
First off, no, no idea what caused it unless you were taking advantage of a bug and they somehow detected it.
Second, saying Blizzard doesn't offer customer service is total bull. They do not restore items in D3, that does not equate to having no customer service. I would like to see you name another company that has built up the industries customer service standards as high as Blizzard has.
I don't think it's ever said that for me... but I did get kicked once after putting some gems in some sockets and equipping some gear and my stuff was set back about a minute before the kick.
I was kicked from my game with the same message while farming on my invuln wiz. Some of my loot got rolled back too, oh well. I assume it was for the hotfix to take.
On another note; exploiting that bug was the most fun I have had in Diablo 3, and I'm sad to see it go. For those of you who are curious, I didn't get any decent loot so ultimately I received no advantage over you. But in a game that has become such a bore, it did a good job of providing me some excitement.

It's good you had fun, but at the same time you're telling me that wouldn't have gotten boring after a good day or two of it? What is fun about being able to just stand there, spam blizzard or whatever your spell of choice is and then move on to the next pack. In the end it's far more tedious and boring then having to actually put forth just a little effort in game.
Also, just because you got no good loot doesn't mean you had no advantage... you couldn't die! You could blow through packs without any fear of what that type of reckless play style often gets people. In Hardcore it is the ultimate advantage as it cancels out the main mechanic of what hardcore is. Whatever you need to say to rationalize it I guess, but I just don't understand that view point. In the end an exploit is an exploit.
On topic for the original poster, it sucks you lost your good drops, but I would assume like others said that this error was a result of the hotfix and rollback. Sucks, but was needed!
Yup it's a bug and they know about it. Same happened to me after I killed a champ pack, looted and started to ID. I never got to see how the ilvl 63 sword turned out like u did. I put in a ticket and no they will not give any loot back that was dropped. It had happened to me 4 times before then so I was used to it. First time I noticed item rollbacks though. This happened about 2 weeks ago I guess and hasn't happned since, but lately I've been gettin really bad ms in act 3. Weird lag spikes and the every annoying rubberbanding a lot more it seems. I always think servers are being attacked in these situations so I just take a break. Why I'm on here atm

I play legit with a WD.
I was talking about customer service in regards to item restores.
This happened to me last night in the middle of killing a pack. It reverted me back about 5 minutes prior. I lost a bunch of items that I had id'd and vendored. I was restored to a point right before I had id'd.
I have had it quite a few times since I first got the game in early June. But then again my connection to the game is real bad and my latency is quite often over 2k

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
I would like to see you name another company that has built up the industries customer service standards as high as Blizzard has.
After this game, that goodwill is in the toilet. Allowing people to buy items for real money, but not having any way of tracking those items or restoring them when problems occur (which they will and have), was a gigantic failure on their part and a customer service nighmare. "Sorry sir, I know you just spent $100 on that item and it went poof, but go pound sand". If you think people rage when they lose ingame items to bugs such as the one the OP is talking about, imagine the level of rage when they lose real money with nothing to show for it. New levels of nerdrage
Has anyone had his game terminated WITHOUT just having killed a pack that had uber loot drop ? Sorry i had to say this because 3-4 posts i read had the loot of the year drop just before they got rolled back...smells like a conspiracy.
On topic though, haven't had this error,no.Some random Disconnects once in a while may be (no uber loot involved) but no errors or whatsoever.
In my case, they didn't drop uber loot, I don't know what they dropped as I was terminated in the middle of the battle. The stuff I lost 5 minutes before d/c was all id'd and vendored (other than a belt which was good, but not godly).

It wasn't loot of the year for me but it was 1-2M gold down the drain (which isn't a huge deal but still hurts). I don't think it's a conspiracy but possibly an odd bug.
I killed the pack, IDed the loot, messaged my friend the drop that might be worth something and then bam... kicked out of the game. I was having ISP issues earlier in the night (packet loss but not getting dropped out of the game) but at the time I was kicked I wasn't having any connection issues for the past 10 minutes (I had a constant ping running in the background to notify me when my connection dropped). Maybe some of these details are similar for other people that have hit this issue?
I've had that a few times, but could just click "resume" and get back to a new game.
If you think that blizzard doesn't have a single machine, but actually a series of servers that work as a single cluster for America, another for EU, and so on.
Probably one of the "nodes" of the cluster was restarted, and your game was on it.
It happened to me in between champ packs, just killing white mobs. Nothing special despite the loss of NV stacks.

I would hope that they would have a better system for restarting servers, lol. They likely have at least a 15 minute warning if they do such a thing. It's possible that the server I was on crashed though. That might make sense.

Never saw this error message. Were you an invul Wiz as well? Maybe it was the hotfix.
Lost my 5 stacks and had to spend almost 10 minutes in a new game getting it back...oh the horror...
Would be nice to know exactly WHAT is causing this error, because it was incredibly annoying.
