I was under the impression not dying and being able to actually like, play the game was a prerequisite for fun.

It's not a question of inefficiency so much as ineffectiveness, which is usually not fun.

Okay I got rid of that ghetto 6% crit ring for one with loads of int, average dmg, and attack speed... has been working well for me.
Also self-found a decent belt upgrade, 5 less all res for like 20 more vitality and 60 int as well as a bit of armor, pretty awesome.
I can't seem to find a good Blackthorne's pants that will work for me, as most of my defensive stats are in my pants. All the ones that don't make me lose dangerous amounts of all res or vitality cost like 900 billion moneys. I appreciate that suggestion though, I'll keep looking.

Chantodo offhand would be wonderful, but because my Occy is half of my APoC I would need to get an Chanto with APoC and those are very expensive. I could easily grab one without APoC within my pricerange but then I'm not sure what helm I should use. Storm crow I guess? That drops me down to only around 30% crit, which seems low, unless I get a high crit Storm crow... but those are even more expensive than APoC Chantodo offhands!

I would look into getting an IAS Chantodo mainhand except that my 100% critdmg gem is actually the most valuable part of my gear >_< I had that gem back when having that gem was cool! You young whippersnappers with your legendary whirlwind malarkey... lol
In all seriousness that seems like a really good suggestion. I might get an IAS Chantodo for ubers and keep my socketed one for the keyruns where my damage is actually relevant as well as my freeze spam. It's a shame that a socketed, IAS Chantodo mainhand isn't a thing haha

I am learning that crit % is less important than I thought for this build once you hit around 35%. Especially if you are AoEing with the Deep Freeze rune on your frost nova. On keyruns I can keep up that 15% crit for nearly the entire run (obviously far less practical for ubers heh)

ghonasyph if you would like to say hi to me in game...
I'm glad to check out what you have :)

Primary - Lets start with that left mouse button primary power. I noticed a major failing of many other wizards is that many do not even use primary skills. I see this as a fault as having a powerful spell to be cast for free is essential because...lets face it. No matter HOW powerful you are or how fast you regenerate your arcane power. YOU RUN OUT...100% of the time..All the time..every time...You ran out like 3 seconds ago while reading this I swear and promise you did. So do not lie about it. lol.
Okay, I can't lie: I ran out of AP once or twice on my last run, you're right.
But running out of arcane power itself is not the problem, it's the consequences... which can be avoided as long as you full up again on AP within milliseconds.

So it's fair to say I never DIE to running out of AP, at that's the reason why people don't use signature skills. With 19 APoC using CM/WW build I never die to running out of arcane power, and never bottom out for more than literally a split second. And I don't even use a wizard helm with APoC, if I was ever having issues there's plenty more of the stat that I could pick up.
If you are running out of AP you should look into just getting some APoC instead of completely changing your build around it... my opinion anyway.

EDIT- here's your link btw :)

I recently started playing D3 again (I quit shortly after killing Diablo on inferno when the game came out because hydra kiting got old fast)

I cobbled together some kind of CMWW gear and build this afternoon then played some. Hadn't read any guides but I just finally did read the CMWW guide and it seems I guessed well when buying stuff lol

I did some random runs this evening with my friends who play barb and monk, we did keyruns and then MP8 ubers and I felt like I brought relevant control to the fights and managed to avoid dying too much, even though my damage contribution was laughable.

Mostly just confused on where I should go from here. Any tips on what I should upgrade next (still have ~14 mil left over) or change in my build?
I'm probably just going to do MP5-8 keyruns with my friends and then ubers, solofarming easy shit is still as boring to me as it ever was.

posted a message on AH prices out of control
The amount of economic ignorance in this thread is staggering.

The "correct" price for an item- in the real world or in Diablo 3- is no more and no less than what it will sell for.
Prices are set by the natural state of the market and no amount of whining will change that.

I had an ilvl 63 dagger with like 290 dps, 30 or so str, int and dex, and 400 life after kill

I should have screenshotted that, truly terrible.

Haven't paid much attention recently. Is there a release date for the rest of the game yet?
It's been a very long time and we still don't have half the things they've promised us... PvP, legendaries that are useful, an endgame... has a blue given a date yet or are they still "working" and it will come out Soon™

Got kicked right after killing a champ pack, lost two ilvl 63 weapons that were on the ground that I didn't have a chance to pick up.

Would be nice to know exactly WHAT is causing this error, because it was incredibly annoying.

posted a message on Act 1 or act 3 farming w/ the hotfix?
Act 1 is still more efficient until you can clear Act 3 packs about as fast as Act 1 packs. Act 3 has fewer guarenteed spawns, so it's harder to get a good farm route unlike Act 1.
So basically you need to be Athene geared. Stick to Act 1.

I was using a 2h staff for a while because I was able to get a 1k+ damage one from the AH super cheap at one point. I was stacking AS and had gotten up to 1.61 attacks per second, and it was amazing because it was fast enough to not feel sluggish. I liked it beause a 2h weapon has more consistent damage per hit. If you look at the damage range, there is less of a gap between the min damage and the max damage which I really liked, and it works really well with a crit set up on the rest of your gear.
atm I am in a similar position. I have an amazing 1300 dps 2hander with nearly 300 int that I got really cheap. Maybe someone mis-listed it on the AH or something, but it's mine now and it melts things (honestly without this weapon I wouldn't be able to farm act 2). It blows any 1hand+source in my price range out of the water- I've checked numerous options with the spreadsheet but they all fall so short.
You hit the nail on the head with 2handers feeling sluggish, so annoying having 1.1 attacks per second... I feel like a level 1 AD carry

    Quote from Damerflinn
As far as I know the only real reason to go with a 2h at the moment is if you are using channeled abilities as it drains your AP much slower and lets you sustain your damage for longer. But I haven't seen too many people progressing with a channel build that aren't over geared.
Ah okay that makes a lot more sense. Hence the references to wanting slower AP drain with a slow 2hander.
For progression then I can see why most wizards I see have a 1hander, just that faster is better for kiting.

Well that helps me understand weapons better... now just to figure out the rest of the gear.
Is there any way I can avoid going crit for the time being, or is that really the only way to progress atm?
Obviously the best gear will have all offensive stats on it, but I was hoping that as I progressed I would be able to find a build that allowed crit as a luxury stat, instead of being "forced" to base my build on crit/critdmg now that IAS is nerfed.

posted a message on Gold/Health pickup dist increased.. good or bad??
Pickup distance is convenient, I try to have 1 item with it. More doesn't hurt, but I view it as an unimportant stat as long as I have a little bit.
Diablo is about efficiently farming, and not having to walk over every pile of gold to get it is part of efficiency in my mind :)

posted a message on Weapon & build choice
I've seen a lot of conflicting information about what type of weapon setup to use with what build.

What I can tell is that the two options are pretty well balanced in terms of theoretical max dps, but it varies a lot with the build you are using.
1hander have naturally higher attack speed, and so they scale better with +damage items.
They also give the flexibility of being able to switch your source to a shield if needed, which I like.
2hander has a larger weapon damage, which I would think would make them scale better with attack speed... but wizards using 2handers have also said they want to avoid attack speed because of the arcane power drain. So I'm not sure whether to use IAS with a 2hander or not lol

Anyone want to shed a little more light on what builds go with what weapon setups for me?

And because I know someone will ask what build I am currently using, I haven't even decided what build I want to use after 1.03 changed everything. I've just been derping around with my mess of gear and a blizzard/hydra kite spec and I can still farm Act 2 quite capably and clear (but not efficiently farm) Act 3.
Obviously crit builds are more popular than ever but I tend not to like crit builds and would prefer being tanky. I have a lot of IAS gear still, if high-damage IAS builds remain an option.

Honestly I'm just a little confused how to proceed at this point, and I'd love a little guidance from Wizards who are farming Act 3 quickly, safely, and efficiently. I'm looking for build ideas, and the proper gear/weapon setup that will go with them.
