I'd like to see Mephisto return but I don't really care about Baal. For whatever reason(maybe the accent or look?) Baal just seemed very lame to me. He didn't seem cool enough to fit in with the other two prime evils.
I would like to see an act boss fight against an angel but not just some random corrupted angel you learn about 5 minutes before fighting as was the case in act 4. I'd like to see another angel come into the plot, be important for a couple acts and then become a host body for a prime evil or similarly overpowered demon. I can't say I'm a fan of the Tyreal becoming corrupted or having been evil all along ideas.
I know these ideas are in no way original but I wouldn't mind seeing the final boss being either Diablo after absorbing/fusing with his brothers or perhaps absorbing some massive demon summoned from the abyss. Sure it'd be cheesey, but I think it could make for an awesome final battle.
I was not serious i would hate if it played out like that...
Thank god becuase i dont think they could pull that off.

I dont think the butcher was a fallen angel, atleast i dont recall reading or hearing that anywhere.
He's an overlord. Overlords are those angels that follow Inarius when he rebel against Heaven to created Sanctuary. Mephisto tore off their wings and stretch their body with chain hooks (kind of like those things from Hellraiser).
That's why they look fat and ugly with no wings, lol.
That is the storyline. Tyrael is captured by Diablo and he must be rescued. But he becomes corrupted (like izual) and we fight him in act 3.
That's cliche 2.0.

You fight Diablo in act 3 and destroys his body. He then enters the body of Tyrael and you have to defeat him in act 4. He dies again and returns to Hell to get a new body. He combines his soul with his brothers and you have to fight Diphistaal in the expansion.
It could work out the way you said, but i dont get the feeling of baal being an act 3 final boss.

At BlizzCon '08 during Q&A, one guy asked are we going to see Baal in Diablo III because we never saw his Soulstone destroyed!
Leonard Boyarski replied:
"We might...and we might not..."
which was followed by a mysterious grin! If you ask me, that could be a partial confirmation that Baal will play a larger role in Diablo III!
Huh, I must have missed that. Thanks.
I think Baal does have the coolest title of the prime evils. Hopefully he will be a bit cooler this time around to match his title of "Lord of Destruction".
If the game has 4 acts, with another act being a expansion, then It may be interesting if Diablo was the final boss in the expansion. Imagine the epic cliff hanger that is about to go on the final quest to kill diablo, and bam, game ends, time to wait for the epic expansion.
Im hoping that they move away from the 4 or 5 act idea, its a new game so there should be more acts and it should not repeat the D2 thing with the acts.

Hmm, can't say I feel like digging through all the old news but I'm pretty sure they said a long time ago that they weren't planning on acts but more recently said there would be separate acts(while discussing cinematics).
As for the idea of Diablo not showing up until an expansion, I'm not sure if I'd like that or not. If you didn't fight Diablo at the end of the orginal release then I think it'd feel much too incomplete. I hate it when a game is releasd as multiple volumes instead of being a complete game with expansions (thinking the early ps2 dothack games vs D2).
I'm 100% sure Diablo will be in the non-exp. I can't believe anyone is actually believing that it won't happen. Diablo not beeing in Diablo 3... what a scam that would be...
I don't think anyone was believing it would be the case, it was just an idea thrown out there bye the_wind.
I think I remember that too, and that the game would be of the same lenght (to run through it once). But are the acts separated or connected in a seamless world.
Pretty sure they did eventually say it would be separated by acts which kind of makes sense since the game supposedly covers a variety of places throughout Sanctuary. I mean, I'd think the only other choice would be to add a menu based overworld map which may just seem out of place in a Diablo game.

Well i would say that Lucion is too powerful to be the act 1 boss but then again we fought and killed andariel in act 1 in D2 so i think we can handle him. Also i had the same idea for the mistress of pain.

At least that's what the D1 manual said.
Who or what is Diphistaal?
I bet without a doubt its just going to be the three lesser evils.
