I think this direction is very good for Diablo 3. Makes it a lot better IMO. A game filled with magic, surely you aren't using pure brute force...then you'd be weak. Add in a little magic to that brute force, and holy crap, that one badass character. I love it!
Paladins can summon hammers out of nowhere... And they got the power to do that from some ancient magic hammer or some shit, its on arreat summit. It does not seem to far a stretch to have a hammer summoning barb.
Last time I looked, the Paladin was a natural party leader, a holy man (basically a Cleric, using divine powers (magic)). The Barbarian is a close-combat specialist, the best fighter humanity has to offer. Of course, the male barbarian does look a bit shamanesque, but imagine the frail(er) barbarianette throwing around ethereal 1ton hammers. It boggles the mind:confused:
I thought hammers were associated with Paladins, Not barbarians/warriors.
Why could the skill not be called "Attack from the ancients" (or something) And makes a visual of what type of item you are holding aka, axe, sword, hammer, ect, ect. Nothing fancy mind you of the exact item you are holding, just a basic axe, hammer, whatever.
I just always thought hammer magical "spells" are more associated with a paladin.... Not a barb or a warrior.
I mean they gave the barb charge which was a paladin skill... But i think giving him this hammer SPELL, key word, SPELL, Went too far into the land of paladin. But thats just my take on it.

But you are right. To my knowledge Hammers were restricted to a paladin only class. But Barbs were able to use mauls and other blunt weapons. So I don't see it being too out of place.
I do like your idea though of the skill reflecting whatever weapon he is using.
You can put whatever twist you want on it, but it doesnt mean there isnt any relevance. Even if merely a fraction of those 11 million are "real" players or "actually" enjoy it, your completely ignoring the significance of that kind of subscription number. I dont play wow and dont argue my ass off to defend anything about the game, but i tend to enjoy using logic and making sensible reasoning out of what I know. Your point requires nothing to back it up and is quite lazy, why should it even matter? Because....... you know...... no one has ever grasped at straws like you are.......... thats just unheard of right?
I'm not the one trying to deflect the arguement saying that WoW is great because it has 11 million people playing compared to the insignificant number of every other game.
Just because something is the "most" at something doesn't make it the "best". Simply the cheapest/and or most convenient, often at the cost of quality. WoW suffers from this syndrome greatly, appealing to the lowest common denominator to get the highest numbers. I'd prefer Diablo to stay away from that sort of situation and be a good game within its own market, and not try to grab a mythical new market that's just waiting to grab at it (see: NGE and Star Wars Galaxies and the resounding failure that was).

that sounds like a reasonable easily executable compromise. very well stated post.

I'm going to assume this is sarcasm? Because the Immortal King set (barbarian only) had a 2 handed mace as it's weapon...

I don't have a clue what hammers have to do with paladins. I always associated paladins with sword and shield, possibly a flail, but not a 2-handed Hammer, that's something from WarCraft.
A barbarian is a warrior skilled in heavy weaponry. A hammer is heavy weaponry...

yeah, but SPELLS associated with hammers are usually restricted to paladins. Spells man, not gear lol. Its just their thing, always has been.

Well it seems the the barb has become more spiritual this time around, possibly in an attempt to make him more interesting, which isn't be a bad thing. They can now draw upon the mystical ancients power from their lore to blahblahblah all that good stuff. So I really can't see why using that spiritual energy to summon the attack is so bad. People didn't get angry with warcries having a pallyesque effect, which would basically gave you an aura. And last time I checked Hammer of the Ancients is a farcry from a little blessed hammer flying around you in a slowly expanding circle.
I really don't think that the holy class (given it's a pallidan or knight) will have blessed hammer this time around anyway. This argumen seems a bit silly to me.

they didnt give the barbarian an aura in the D3 trailer. Just a buff icon.

I think he meant more of a "spell//skill" Based abilities. Rather than actual usable items. At least thats more of what i was trying to say lol.

Considering Auras have been in every Blizzard game since Diablo 2. I'm sure they will be to some extent.
Auras have proven to be great multiplayer buff methods, that provide easy ways to benefit the party.
Although I do hope they aren't so powerful in D3.
In D2, paladin aura stacking was pretty silly.
Over confidence is the rot.
