I heard Diablo 3 is gonna be about the same length of Diablo 2... Is that with or without the LOD expansion? Cause I found Diablo 2 to be incredibly short. I could get through all 5 acts in about 12 hours... Given the length of mmorpg's to date now, how come multiplayer action rpg's always have to be so damned short?
I don't want to wait this long for a game that'll take me half a day to complete
It's all about replayability. Diablo 2 might have been a short game if you counted a single playthrough, but it's highly doubtful that anyone only ever played it once, or even 5 times, or even 10. Chances are, you spent hundreds of hours playing it.

Chances are, you didn't spend hundreds of hours playing it.
Even if I just count the individual sittings, I can easily count for well above 200 hours. And that's without actually counting. It's just that I know that I did more than 20 12-hour sittings. In LAN, of course.
So yes, chances are that you spent much more than you think. Hours go by much, much quicker than most people think they do.
I know for a fact that I have spent at least 1000 hours on Diablo 2, including the ES mod.
Not to mention 12 hours for 5 acts is what, one difficulty? Then the other 2? Then how many boss runs to get the drop(s) you want? To hit 99? The discovering the amazing thrill (some of us) of Hardcore Mode, which starts it all over again and god knows how many times after one dies?
I think the three difficulty settings basically enhanced the game's 'playability' threefold (theoretically of course - Hell and Nightmare were more difficult). Not to mention mf runs in each difficulty, and the fact that you could only find certain classes of weapons/armor etc. in Nightmare and Hell (for instance, a Ghost Shroud armor could only be found in Nightmare or Hell (not 100% sure on Nightmare)). Anyway, what I mean to say is, Diablo 2's replay value is staggering. And I imagine Diablo 3 will boast the same, or more, replay value.
I believe blizzard actually said in an interview that the game will be much grander in scope than diablo2. I think it was in the lore/development video. Also judging from the size of the game world on the D3 official site I would have to say the world and game is going to be much larger and longer than the last.
Diablo III needs werewolf form!! Werewolf druids are the greatesterestest! Werewolves that shred and eat enemies even!! Rawr! (f'.')f

Diablo 2 was fine in length, it had alot of replayability and diablo 3 will have even more replay value.
Of course it was short, when u never had to kill the bosses or complete quests in order to get into next act. If u would actually have to play acts through, without someone TP you to the boss and kill him for you it would be quite long.
Mm what? I always play the acts trough. Rushing is for wussies. Even then it doesn't take long especially in NM when your char gets stronger and u can just blast trough. Only in normal mode it takes a bit longer.
Oh to OP: You heard? Well the rest of us haven't heard a thing, but I'm pretty sure they put a lot more effort to the lenght of the game and the story as well. If the story is rich and long then the game should also gain some lenght from it.

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
same altho i would still still like more content, if they could start somewhere around LoD, and add content in an expansion that would be awesome.
D2/LoD weren't 'short' by any means.
D2 is one of those 'unfinishable' games.
Asus Xonar D2X | Coolermaster Centurion 590 | 4 GB RAM | 500 GB HDD
i just finished it once all those years ago
then again i was only playing single player, and did have many other games to keep me occupied
i wasnt one of those people who only played d2
but i will be one who plays lots of d3 thats for sure, and online this time
They are all about richness and content now. It'll be good.

2. they said that there are LOTS of random and side quests
and lets not forget online
There will also be random quests as well... randomly generated for each game.
