I have been playing wow since Vanilla but its starting to fade on allot of ppl most of the ppl in my guild are waiting for Diablo3 and dont really care for new expantion that is coming out.
We have had all this other games likje swor and rift etc, that claimed they going to be wow killers.
Do you ppl think Diablo can end wow and thats why blizzard made the wow annual pass ?
Diablo will most likely hit WoW similar to Starcraft. That is to say, very little.
While there are A LOT of gamers that love Blizzard titles, I don't think anyone gives up one game for another. More likely, they'll keep playing all of the games off and on. I've personally subbed and cancelled WoW multiple times while playing Starcraft II in between.
Of course there's exceptions to all rules and its possible that Diablo DOES hit WoW hard. I think the pay to play model is also burning WoW players out faster and those players are willing to switch over to a lasting title like SC or Diablo for a one time payment.
I personally have never played a Diablo title but knowing how exceptional Blizzard titles are will most likely play it. I probably won't have an active WoW subscription during that time but I'll see if the game keeps me interested for very long. There really hasn't been any title ever that could keep me interested and coming back to it like WoW.
WoW will always have its dedicated players, me not being but i know a few. If you have a maxed out and geared character. The game will always be interesting to go back to once in a while to play through new expansions and various other things. No game out there will ever completely kill another, each game has its own dedicated fans. They may lose players but will continue to profit.

I dont know, SC2 is a completely different game type than WoW, whilst Diablo3 is pretty damn close. I could easily see them losing quite a few customers to D3, of course blizzard saw that too, hence the WoW annual pass.

Do you want to get scammed? Perhaps a nice keylogger?
"Just google "diablo 3 gold guide" and magical rainbow covered demons will assault your eyes."
i think it can, in my own personal opinion i played wow for 3 months got 1 char to 85 and was bored, reason being i didnt like the fact you HAD to raid with like 25 ppl just to get the best items and so forth, also once i hit 85 it was like, ok what else. of course im not a wow addict or fan so excuse my overly looked opinions to those who are. plus i mean cmon diablo has been out longer than wow and ppl still play diablo to this day., i dont speak on behalf of anyone, just my thoughts.....now ima go eat some popcorn and drink some late night coffee
And just like Aeon, Rift, Warhammer 4k, SWTOR, GW, hell even games like torchlight that were thought to kill wow, won't. D3 won't be an exception. While I'm sure wow has at least two more expansions, I'm also sure WoW is still so big, that it will choose when it wants to die - no other game will be able to choose for it. Diablo 3 isn't build to be a wow killer, well obviously that won't make sense either, but instead it's a way to keep Blizzard fans buying Blizzard games, and it'l work. Personally? I think the only game Blizzard will put out that'l end WoW will be project titan, although we don't even know if that'l be an rpg, or just an MMO. And even then, there will still be many millions of faithful WoW fans to buy the last expansion packs, and hang on through the DLC =)
No it shouldn't be a WoW killer. It wouldn't make any sense for Blizzard to release a game that will threaten the profit of their most profitable product. WoW may have lost subscribers over the last year, but the dedicated players will continue to play especially with the new expansion coming out in a year or so.
It will be a WOW Killer for me personally, it already is actually. I got the annual pass and stopped playing less than a month later, all I'm doing now is waiting for Diablo 3. I started playing Rift again but probably wont even continue playing that. I'm just looking forward to playnig Diablo 3 with a friend and maybe some new ones.
WOW has absolutely burned myself and my friend out, and I haven't personally seen anything from Mists to convince me to stay, I may actually be off MMOs period for a good amount of time. The whole grind, grind, grind, farm style of gameplay isn't fun to me. Yes I know Diablo 3 will have farming/grinding, but you're doing it through hordes of monsters, not AOEing a few at a time at max.
I can also honestly say I hope too much of the WOW "community" doesn't make it over to Diablo 3. I generally had a great time in Diablo 2 random games, but I fear if too many WOW players/WOW style of players come over the game will be full of trolling, elitists and asshats.
I think that Blizzard did the annual pass thing because they wanted to ensure that there are still people playing WoW when the D3 release hits the market. Although Diablo and World of Warcraft are two very none similar games.
World of Warcraft has ruled the market for a long time now, and I think it will continue to survive for a bit more in the MMO world.
But! I think that Diablo will get quite a few to migrate, no doubt about that.
It's actually the opposite. Blizzard made the annual pass to introduce WoW players to the Diablo franchise. I mean face it, most hardcore WoW players ONLY play wow, why would they waste their money / time on another game? Giving them the game for free, while letting them still play their favorite mmo is a win win. Not only does blizzard introduce new people to the Diablo universe, if they like it they will spend money on the expansion packs.
I dont know, SC2 is a completely different game type than WoW, whilst Diablo3 is pretty damn close. I could easily see them losing quite a few customers to D3, of course blizzard saw that too, hence the WoW annual pass.
A good point and I was going to address it but I still don't think it'd effect subs that much.
While the games may be similar in some ways I still think they fill their own very specific niches enough to differentiate them. Diablo is a dungeon crawler. Not quite an MMO and the character perspective really sets it apart in the RPG genre. WoW won't have genuine competition from another Blizzard game until another MMO similar to it. Even Titan, if it happens to be an FPS like its speculated to be, won't draw away from WoW.
Blizzard seems to know their stuff. They never make games that are too similar. The titles are all kept unique enough that it draws different crowds but also makes people who have played them all keep going back to their other titles.
I'm pretty sure WoW will be the only WoW killer. Diablo might have a small impact short term, but from a revenue stand point it's not going to worry them one bit. The possible small losses in wow will be more than made up from D3 RMAH. Not to mention the new expansion supposedly hitting some time this year. If anything I'de bet both would actually positively effect each other, each will be a good distraction to the other when you get burned out with content. D3 content will burn out quicker than the wow content too so I'm guessing a lot of wow players will be back before long. The whole blizzard line up for the next 12 months looks pretty exciting to me.
Diablo 3 and wow are different games. Diablo 3 is pretty much hack and slash and for very small groups max is 4 in party and it doesnt feel like a multiplayer game at all. Wow is a multiplayer game with lots of players and lots of quests and story, plus casual vs competitive pvp and ofcourse lots of dailies to do and seasonal events. Pls compare apples to apples, eg. Rift vs wow or even Swtor.. but then Swtor is really a single player game made into multiplayer imo.

It will take a small hit at launch but players will return after a few weeks.
Every time a new game comes out people think it will be a "WoW killer", Diablo 3 caters to a different crowed then the current wow players in my opinion.
You will probably see more of an activity drop from F2P games like League of Legends.

I agree to it. Blizzard claims that they give D3 to their long lasting WoW fans is a joke. They just want to introduce others through others to D3. Most of the people who like WoW plays it because it is MMO with huge social aspect. There are millions of people who rather play relaxing game like WoW than go and have adrenaline rush in Diablo. But even they will buy D3 and play through normal once as they believe in blizzard games that they give them fun. If they choose to buy D3 through the yearly subscription of WoW is a win for Blizzard as they will get big amount of money up front, customer will play D3 for some time and spread the word to others in WoW country about awesomeness of the D3 game, even if he is not a hc player and will move to WoW soon after. Blizzard will earn more money which they otherwise wouldn't as these people would never buy D3 without offer like this.
Summarizing, WoW have huge social aspect and relaxing mood. D3 not. I am a huge fan of both D3 and WoW and I wait for Blizzard to release some game which will be both, namely Hack & Slash in MMO word with huge cities and social aspects. Oh, and please don't start to telling me that such games are coming from other companies. I don't believe any of them have talent and resources/time to create good balanced game of this kind.
I personally think wow is doing a pretty good job at killing itself and has been for a long time now. The increasing amount of catering towards casualism took the challenge out of it and the prestige of being at the top. Separating pve and pvp in terms of gear also did damage, in my opinion.
All of that is a point on its own but Diablo and WoW are extremely different things as well. If you only assume a person will play one game and not switch inbetween a few then the concept of a game killer becomes more valid. If, however you think that a person can and does play a variety of games from different genres then it's less likely one game is capable of killing another and a person leaving it is based upon a factor like interest, money, time (I'll accept the time factor can be influenced by the uptake of another title).
The big thing about wow is that its systems and gameplay become habitual. You create a routine and follow it and it becomes normal to do so. Add the positive reinforcement people receive for every little accomplishment you've got a potent mix of habit and endorphins. Coincidentally very similar to how people stay hooked on drugs, habit + chemical dependency.
At any rate, Diablo 3 won't kill wow.

The WoW killer is called Guild Wars 2 reading the press invite beta.
I thought SWTOR had got a lot of praise until I started reading about Guild Wars 2 and seeing the beta footage.
I've seen some gameplay from GW2. Somebody beautiful was killing one fish which wasn't a boss for what felt like a half an hour. It's like 10 times slower than in WoW. I don't believe this game will be huge enough or interesting enough for many players to leave pandaria (lol) for GW2.
Diablo is a franchise a lot more focused on the "action" part of action-rpg, with its roleplaying aspect being an accessory (from my humble point of view, at least).
So I believe people who don't like quick paced action and "kind of" moba-style gameplay probably won't like Diablo in the higher difficulties, and might switch back to check the Mists of Pandaria content in WoW after a couple months.
It's hard to "just kill" such a big creature. WoW's death is probably going to take more than 1 game, or 1 year. Pretty much what ^he^ said
Jesus won't the WoW killer story ever end? Diablo can't and won't kill WoW, not even in all these insanely boring months ahead - where there won't be any new content. And by the time MoP gets close all the D3 people will be nagging about it's release date so they can try out all the neat new stuff... It's a never ending circle! Blizzard should change their name to Vortex Of Lost Futures.
