Well, how can they be Game of the Year if they released -last year- ?

If you look at the list more than half of them were released in Q4 2011, with the oldest I believe being GoW3 from Sep 2011. Makes zero sense, media controlled by devs, you can do whatever you want.

Or maybe it's game of the year from end of Q3 last year to end of Q3 this year...? Not everything is a conspiracy you know.

Anyways, Diablo III's story was abysmally portrayed. Hell, Skyrim's main story was presented better and that's saying A LOT. My vote went to Skyrim just because it was excellent in so many regards.

posted a message on Give me a good inferno build..
If and when I get there I'll probably be using this build mostly:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#aeXQRg!bgZ!aZccbc

Maximal survival. It's gimped on damage so I opted for Brawler. Seeing as I'll have beaten the game once I'll probably change skills/runes out depending on boss fights etc. Usually switch bash for cleave on non-elite or non-boss packs.

It seems the biggest issue for the Barbarian is to take those hits that all the other classes can simply avoid/outheal. That's why I went for so many damage reduction skills. Tanky as possible. Tanky enough that you might even be able to avoid using a shield for more damage if necessary with proper use of cds.

I went for overpower instead of revenge. While revenge is awesome for the baseline heal and damage, it's reliance on being hit is just terrible and is utterly counterintuitive to how Blizzard seems to want Inferno to be played out. There's probably a better choice than overpower but nothing that I could come up.

I'd totally apply if I had any frapsing/video editing knowledge.

So here's an idea for a machinima if anyone wants to steal it: Lonely Island- Throw it on the ground with a bunch of Barbarian knockdowns. It'd fit better as a WoW video though. Oh well.

Good luck to everyone. /jelly of whoever wins the alienware.

posted a message on DiabloFans Calculator Build Contest (ONE POST ONLY)
Having never played a Diablo game previously I had to go about reading up on different classes and the issues they might be facing in the more difficult areas of the game. The DH tickled my fancy so I decided to give it a go for an inferno build.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#aSVdfl!bTZ!aaYZaY

I read about issues with hatred generation and so went about tackling that through the grenades instead of using other abilities that would cost a lot of hatred. Between hungering arrow and grenades I don't think there would be a huge issue there.

Inferno seems to be all about playing it smart instead of running and gunning and so survivability is key. Whereas the Barbarian can take many hits to the face, the Demon Hunter looks like she excels at mobility so I tried to emphasize that in this build. For those tricky spots where you can help but take a hit, I tacked on the gloom rune to Shadow Power which is already a great defensive cooldown. Still, I wasn't sure if it was worth taking it over Preparation as that Discipline regen can help promote greater mobility in the face of high incoming damage.

As said though, I've never played any prequels to this game and so am going off of hearsay and what I've read. Here's to hoping I can get a taste of what the game is like early and a possibility of shaping any changes before its release.

My competitive gaming career started with blizzard games and obviously i got really attached to all their games, starting with vikings, warcraft2,sc,diablo1&2(this is what i played,i know there are more).
WoW eliminated Diablo2 and Warcraft3 from my life when it came up as a brand new game. And yes Sc2 and Diablo3 are now taking over WoW.
This time though , as i grew up and I earned my game/life experience, i can see how Diablo3 and Sc2 have several new reasons above being a newer generation games.Behind the addictive characteristics of all 3 which still has a great influence to real life, Sc2 and Diablo3 won't keep you 3hours+ 3+ nights bound to keyboard to experience it's highest quality content(10 or 25men raids). Therefore Diablo3 will probably be my new drug for my free time while i can still alt f4 at any moment and fix my rl without having remorse upon leaving my friends unlike WoW

This is definitely a good point and I hadn't realized it.

The newer generation Blizzard titles seem to be lacking that addictive quality that their older games are famous (or infamous) for.

This can go either of two ways.

    1. People will get burned out on the new games and not go back to the old games because the new ones drew away from the old so much.

    2. People go back to the older, more addictive games after completing and doing their favorite things in the more recent titles.

WoW is most likely going to continue having that addictive feel for a time longer even with new expansions that steer it in a non-addictive direction. I feel this is why there are still so many WoW players.

I dont know, SC2 is a completely different game type than WoW, whilst Diablo3 is pretty damn close. I could easily see them losing quite a few customers to D3, of course blizzard saw that too, hence the WoW annual pass.

A good point and I was going to address it but I still don't think it'd effect subs that much.

While the games may be similar in some ways I still think they fill their own very specific niches enough to differentiate them. Diablo is a dungeon crawler. Not quite an MMO and the character perspective really sets it apart in the RPG genre. WoW won't have genuine competition from another Blizzard game until another MMO similar to it. Even Titan, if it happens to be an FPS like its speculated to be, won't draw away from WoW.

Blizzard seems to know their stuff. They never make games that are too similar. The titles are all kept unique enough that it draws different crowds but also makes people who have played them all keep going back to their other titles.

Having never played the game before I'm not sure if I'll like it.

That said, the rune system sounds exceptionally compelling and exactly what I was hoping the WoW glyph system would be like. I fear certain ideas that become further refined make it to newer Blizzard title and forgotten in the older ones.

Diablo will most likely hit WoW similar to Starcraft. That is to say, very little.

While there are A LOT of gamers that love Blizzard titles, I don't think anyone gives up one game for another. More likely, they'll keep playing all of the games off and on. I've personally subbed and cancelled WoW multiple times while playing Starcraft II in between.

Of course there's exceptions to all rules and its possible that Diablo DOES hit WoW hard. I think the pay to play model is also burning WoW players out faster and those players are willing to switch over to a lasting title like SC or Diablo for a one time payment.

I personally have never played a Diablo title but knowing how exceptional Blizzard titles are will most likely play it. I probably won't have an active WoW subscription during that time but I'll see if the game keeps me interested for very long. There really hasn't been any title ever that could keep me interested and coming back to it like WoW.
