In short: yes.

Just the blog actually. Well.. none of the two have set dates, but they might already have an aim for PvP. When the blog comes out is irrelevant.
Just sad it's not going up earlier.
I don't see PVP coming out this year, so we might as well consider it delayed since JW was quite confident about releasing PVP this year back in May. -

Such a level? It's just a simple division.
Quote from Valaranthe math that should be in the game, but isn't...
The math in game takes into account all stats except +damage to elites (demons, undead, etc) and +damage to skills. That gives us pretty good idea where our damage output is (except some known bugs with it). It could be better of course, for example, skill tooltips could easily show dps instead of the dps multiplicator, and tooptips could be more clear on skill mechanics. Game devs are funny people though, sometimes they want you to experiment, so in-game guides will never be totally clear.
But that's all the game can do for you. Tooltips can't predict how will you use skills with aoe or multiple hits. Azmodan has a big hitbox, so all bombs and granades will hit it. A small elite, like a skeleton will get only 1-2 hits from the same skills, thus dps on that elite will be around three times less. It makes no sense to take into account all uses of a skill... Many times devs can't even predict all uses of a skill. Discovering poverful mechanics like this is the fun part!
Quote from Valaran(ie. specific-ability DPS ala D2)
I'm not aware of any in-game dps calculator in Diablo 2. Perhaps you mistake the damage range display for dps? It's nowhere near as convenient as the dps calculation Diablo 3 does. -

Of course, the clever choice is to swap skills as soon as you realize you can't beat the boss with you currents skills. You'll find an efficient, universal build quicker if you forgo the unnecessary wipes and skips. NV reset currently punishes being clever by removing the loot and MF bonus when you start to experiment and fine-tune your build, and it kills a major incentive of defeating a new boss.
True, but: Without NV-reset, people would just switch their brains off until their character dies to a monster-group and then respecc.
Switching skills while farming is not effective, it'd be a very bad and slow way of farming. NV reset simply prohibits that kind of gameplay, but even without that, most people would realize very soon that they need a constant build to farm effectively.
Quote from aljung
It isn't hard to know which skills are better against specific monster-types or amounts (single target vs. group, melee vs. ranged, burst vs. sustain dmg, ...), but it is hard to come up with a build that doesn't suck in any of these situations (now, apart from doing the completely brainless build-copying).
And that kind of experimenting is punished by the current NV reset system. People want to start with a copied cookie cutter build, instead of developing one for themselves, because with the current system they barely get any loot while experimenting. Of course not all people copy, and some people will always copy. But we're talking about what kind of gameplay is encouraged or discouraged by the game rules, and currently, experimenting is discouraged with the vastly inferior rewards. -
Sep 15, 2012m4st0d0n posted a message on Scheduled Maintenance, Puzzle Ring - So Many Goblins, Build Diversity & Skill hotswapping. PollIt looks like the hardcore gamer who's willing to give thought to his gameplay is a dying breed indeed.Posted in: News
But regarding NV stack reset, let's ask the proper question: does it matter? Sure, NV stack reset locks you in a build for a session. But then again, if you want to farm efficiently, you're locked in a build, because you don't want to make breaks to mess with your talents (assuming the 1 min cd after skill swap stays). And if you died because you couldn't handle an elite using your current skillset, you don't farm efficiently. So NV stack reset doesn't matter when the game is on farm. You want to stick to a build anyways.
Where it actually matters is progress, and with the new and hard bosses/modes we'll be wiping a lot again. And what happens when you get to a boss/elite you can't kill it with your current skillset? You either skip it before you loose your stacks, or you wipe until you've lost your stacks, and only start changing skills after that because you don't want to loose your rewards (or if you can't skip it you just quit because of the loose-loose situation).
Now, just to be clear, I want NV reset to stay. It makes getting fast loot a bit harder (during progress period), and I'm fine with that, because I'm pro, and it's a big advantage to have the endgame inaccessible(or unfeasible) for most of the players. That makes my loot more expensive and I can make more money on RMAH (my only incentive to play this game). But the arguments above are very strong against NV reset on skill swap. I think it's clear that Blizzard has to remove it one day.
Feel free to discuss, but please read carefully what I just wrote and think before you post. -

I see this warning to fansites as another PR fail of Blizzard around Diablo 3. Most things are fine, 1.04 did good, people are playing, and then wham, Blizzard comes out of it's silence and breaks the calm with a "DON'T PANIC" warning. I see people panic just because of this warning, including myself, because historically, fixing the game resulted in nerfs to my class, builds, gear, etc. -

I don't expect it'll bee different this time either, whatever they say. I'll have to grind for different gear, find a different build, plan different farming routes. I'll have to climb the ladder of effectiveness again, with no apparent reason.
Sigh. No, actually I don't have to, but let me see the patch before I quit. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

If the input driver/program doesn't interact with the game's memory and doesn't alter the game files in any way the macro will be legit. If there's a standard input device from a well-known vendor which might get you banned Blizzard should issue a warn publicly before it bans anyone.
For your example in WoW, spam-clicking a button to mill herbs does not harm the game. Spam clicking a button in a battleground to avoid the auto afk-kick on the other hand, does harm the game, and will result in a temporary suspension (and a ban for repeat offenders).
So what really matters is context. Writing a gear-swapping input macro does not harm Diablo. Starting hundreds of games in a day to farm Sarkoth does harm the game (according to devs at least), and it doesn't matter if you've done it with a chinese farmer, a younger brother, or with a macro.

Law > TOU/TOS/EULA/whatever bullshit a company tries to force upon you. At least in every normal country. People are getting a refund even after 6 months just because on some CE game boxes PVP was listed as a feature, and that's false advertising. A correctly formulated complaint to the local consumer protection institution did the trick for them. That's what you should do if (and only when) everything else fails. First and foremost, try to get in reason with Blizzard. Be civil and calm whenever you communicate with them, that will help your cause.
Just for the record, I'd be interested too, if you used keyboard or mouse macros. Anyways, macros that are made with the manufacturer's default software are legitimate, and can't be used as a reason to ban you, though macros can be easily mistakened for other automated scripts...

Even playing the game scares off some people, imagine then trying to figure it out while watching... Gave a WD to an old D2 RL friend of mine for a few hours... He kept asking "Where am I, where am I?" the first ten minutes. No, this is not how a spectator game looks like. This is worse than WoW arena.

No, it's not an exaggeration It's more than that actually, but lets just round things down. People, including you, usually don't take into account (or underestimate) Bonus Item (BI) chance. As I said in some other thread, BI chance is in great synergy with MF. From MP1 and up, every time something drops from a white mob (excluding Health Globes BUT including gold), there's a BI roll. If successful, the BI will be wearable gear, and standard MF tests are rolled if it's legendary or n-affix rare or magic. Remember that legendary drop chance from white monsters is doubled in 1.05. That applies to BIs too. I can't give you exact chances, only my logs, and those show a clear and significant increase in drops from MP3 and up. I don't log every run, but when I measure my performance I will log 3-4 consecutive runs. I have logs since July.
People also underestimate the scale of stats in Diablo III. Yes, very good gear (north of billion in gold) is required to farm higher MPs effectively, but it's not unreachable at all. AH prices are ridiculously low for everything not BIS. With a little creativity in character building, and lot of AH sniping everyone will find good enough gear. Some dedication will be required of course, there's no such thing as free lunch.
Edit: forgot to add, there's one more thing about white monsters that's usually omitted. Namely, drop chance is not equal for every monster, it depends on monster type. Stronger monsters with higher base HP will usually have higher chance to drop something and experience for killing them is also increased. Keep Depths 2 and Field of Slaughter have large packs of strong monsters. That's why Alkaizer XP runs are so effective but that also means that with lots of BIs dropping, most legendaries from white monsters will drop there. So on higher MPs its smarter to focus on these zones (while on low MPs elite hunting is still more effective).

It's possible to do MP5-MP6 nearly as fast as MP0 with good gear. And you get significantly more drops, and most importantly, more legendaries on high MP. Did some runs on MP10 yesterday. For every bag I filled with rares there was a legendary. And I filled my bag in every zone. Still less loot per hour than on MP5, but the trend is clear. You have room to progress in gear in a meaningful way (eg. you won't oneshot everything), and you have the reward for it. It's raining legendaries once you get really effective at high MPs. You just have to have the patience to ID and filter all that shit that drops
I don't agree with the OP that clearing speed beats all. I often log drops/hour and legendaries/hour for my runs, and even though MP5 takes longer than MP0, I get like 3-4x more rare drops and legendaries per hour. But it's easy to deceive yourself that you're effective. Without logging your performance you can't tune your sweet spot. Clear your stash, and dump every unid there, it's easy to count loot at the end of the run that way. And, of course, measure your run time.

You assume too much. What if Blizzard uses some kind of NoSQL database? That's not a far guess, considering the amount of data they need to access every minute. How do you know that these are the only possibilities to generate new items? The gem dupe happened abusing the AH for example... not even in game!
So yeah. Hackers gonna hack, and you won't know about their success if they're subtle enough. Let's just hope Blizzard can stomp on their attempts in a timely manner...
...and considering that they allowed the wizard invulnerability bug over a month, and reacted only when it went public, we can't be sure about that either.

Well, in that case, Spike Award is a joke.

For loot.
Many people don't realize the great synergy between MF and MP Bonus Item mechanics in this thread.
- Bonus Item Chance applies to every drop from white monsters. Potions, gold, tomes, gems, everything (except Health Globes). Meaning you have a chance for an extra item drop (armor, jewelry, weapon) every time something drops!
- MF affects every item drop
- White monsters' legendary drop chance is doubled in 1.05
- Profit!
I can't quantify how much more gear will drop without the exact drop table, but based on my logs, on MP0 I get 1 legendary every 3 act 3 runs, while on MP3 I usually get 2 legendaries every run (my MF is capped). So yeah, you'll get significantly more good quality loot on higher MPs. But you still have to tune your sweet spot. Log loot on each MP you feel comfortable to farm, and see where do you get the highest legendary/hour number.

You can't and you won't know that unless you're a Blizzard employee. Unless a serious leak happens (or a method gets widely abused) there won't be official information available to the public about Blizzard's anti-hack effectiveness. So you can have your opinion, but you can never be certain about the truth, whatever it is. Well, okay, maybe someday, in a Blizzard historical retrospective...
So we can't know the truth, but we won't get a lie either. Blizzard doesn't lie... sometimes it conceals truth well, but no, not lieing. So did we hear Blizzard saying "we did not detect any duping" or "there is no duping in Diablo III" after release? No we didn't, because Blizzard doesn't lie. Bear this in mind: when there's no official denial, there's unofficial confirmation. We can't know for sure though...

I use asd for skills from start as 1-4 are hard to reach and uncomfortable. At one point, early in Diablo 3, when skill actually mattered, I tried the move bind, and I found that I can't get used to it. I saw the theoretical advantages, but in practice it was too much hassle, as I still had to move the mouse to the point i wanted to go. Stutter-shot is actually harder to time when you have the move button on a separate arm. I can imagine a convenient third button on a mouse for this purpose though, but I found Mouse3 (wheel) hard to press, and Mouse4-5 not responsive enough on my hardware.
Now I moved away from Ball Lightning, and use insta-gibbing skills, like multishot and impale (at 75% crit those oneshot everything quite reliable), I don't even need to cluster projectiles.
Also "inexperienced" is not the right word. As you said you are using these binds since yesterday. I've tried it months ago. Now I got over a thousand hours played in Diablo 3, 3 maxed chars in Diablo 2, and one in Diablo 1, and according to you I'm still inexperienced, just because I didn't find your control scheme useful? The control scheme I use is well established, and it's well practiced into my muscle memory. Go grow a beard...
