Having played the practically alpha version of the Monk, I have to say he plays better then the wizard and the WD easily. Hes fast, does good damage, and has average life. He will be very good at PvP cause he can hit and dodge and move around very freely whereas the barbarian will be a little slower and more restricted with his movements, which means a great monk can topple a good barbarian. They have released like 3 skills of his so far, he doesn't even have a correct energy source yet. He is far from finished and if a WD fits into the Diablo world then a Monk should be right at home, atleast he is fighting for a purpose, whereas the WD's purpose is what...?

I never said the monk didn't play well(as I've never actually played him, or any of the classes). I simply stated that I don't believe that his current incarnation doesn't fit well with the flow of the game. He seems a little bit flashy for my tastes for someone that doesn't use magic, and that's my main beef with him at the moment. I understand that they are trying to get the point across that he is the embodiment of his 1001 gods, but I wish he was more of a bare knuckle brawler or even using battle staves(like he currently does) and was more of a martial fighter than a "I zoom around and cause flashy explosions with my holy might!" type of character.

As for the witch doctor, he actually makes a little bit of sense since they have jungle people and who do jungle people usually have for heads of their tribe? You guessed it, the witch doctors.

However, I've never heard of the monk or his people before they introduced him into the lore with diablo 3.

Also; Thank Seth I realize that first line of the above post was probably out of line, just felt like the thread was heading in the wrong direction and wanted to voice my opinion.

posted a message on What archetype/class do you like playing?
My favorite "archetype" would be hybrid type classes. I like being able to fulfill any role on the fly be it healing, melee damage, or damage from range, with a bit slated towards healing/melee. As far as I know, no rpg or mmo has yet to properly balance anything like what I want properly. They're either overpowered or underpowered.

Although I do love to play stealth/assassins or agile fighter.

As far as the topic at hand however, Blizzard seems to be making a class(the monk) that looks flashy and cool instead of something that actually fits into the world of diablo. They're doing exactly the same thing with this games lore like they did with warcraft's lore. They're saying "bah, no one cares about lore! we'll just do whatever looks cool instead of what makes sense in this world we've created!"

I could see the monk fitting into the world of diablo, but not in the current form whatsoever, it would fit into the game as a bare knuckle brawler type(isn't there a drunken style of martial arts?)but then the name wouldn't make sense I guess..

we know but make a crossbow in a shape of a gun and keep calling it a crossbow but add tipped arrowheads with explosives and you in effect have a gun....

for example here is an ancient crossbow http://www.historical-firearms.co.uk/acatalog/DX1233Close.jpg

attach multiple arrow heads and you basically have a gun....

plus what about gun/sword or other weapon combo for example http://www.historical-firearms.co.uk/acatalog/denix-pistols.html

two swords with mini guns attached too them....range and melee combat....they are not guns and are not swords....

You're not getting the point, that's still a crossbow. Guns require gunpowder and a bullet to be a gun. Both of which won't be in D3.

the magic about blizzard is that they sometimes lie or tell half truths for example in world of warcraft they said goblins would never be a race for the alliance or horde...but now they tell us otherwise..

sure guns are out of the question but what defines a gun....we could get a class that uses crossbows with explosive tipped bolts...like rambo...who the hell knows what blizzard is thinking....

who would have thought that blizzard would make a Buddhist monk a class (with dragon ball influence, seriously can you see how high he jumps....he would destroy any class in melee combat...)

Crossbows were in D2, it's a given that they will be in D3, guns however won't be.

Ok in all seriousness, they have no ranged character, they already have 2 magic and 2 fighting classes. Destroying the World stone changed things and this is based 20 years after Diablo 2, so I would actually go with, and I know this may seem absurd, but an early gunman class of some sort. Tinkering with different elemental ammo and grenades and traps. This is just speculation, not what I'd want.

Pretty sure Bashiok confirmed there will be NO guns in Diablo 3.

What is a discussion if not 2 or more people talking about their different opinions?

You're not discussing. You're throwing your hands over your ears and going "LA LA LA I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG LA LA LA". Neither side is providing any kind of constructive feedback, you're more or less flaming each other and getting no where. As xXSoulXx said, this thread is nothing but flamebait.

Its not about content being boring. If you think a game is boring why do you play it? No matter how small the cheating is you do it is still retarded. Cheat is a cheat if you can't manage without it you have failed in the game.

Maphack helps in a lot more ways than just finding places quick.. I've made over 100 characters and never needed a maphack to find the next area. The areas are small and simple and you can just bash the monsters dead while looking for the next area and gain exp/items. Many people in HC wanted to use maphack because it shows you all the monsters and bosses and their abilities. Without maphack everything comes with a surprise.

Also maphack used to have this ability to scroll the screen.. so for example with amazon in duel you could scroll the screen and mouselock the guy and shoot guided arrows like hell straight at them.. if thats not a case about player being ungifted then what is?

And yes there are huge amounts of retards in Battle.net. I've seen it during 9 years.

No one that still plays Diablo 2 "Needs" maphack to find the next set of stairs down in the durance or any other area. I haven't played the game in years and I still probably know every major area in the game. When you're running your thousandth character through you want to make it as quick and painless as possible.

In the end this topic is going no where fast and hasn't been going anywhere for the last 14 pages so I guess we should just drop it and move on with our lives. There's no real discussion here, it's just people flaming eachother for no reason other than a difference in opinion.

This is a great topic. I always enjoy a challenge over a walk through. Im guilty of using MH my self.. but the only challenge that comes from using MH was not letting Blizz know it. Blizz should make the right choices in diablo 3 and hope that they add an Add on data file to the system files. This way the ppl what wish to use it could use it with out it being a "hack" which is against the terms u agreed to. As far as using it in D2 ppl wont stop using it cause it works so well. But with out it maybe it would be a little harder to get some items that now flood the D2.

    Ty

The items that flood D2 now are due to dupes, not maphacks.

It ruins the intended leveling speed. Compare how quick someone with maphack does things compared to someone without.

The main reason people use MH is for MF runs though. If you have to do 1 million MF runs to maybe get the item you want you better damn well have a fast and effecient way to do it. It won't be as prevalent in this one though if they make it so it isn't astronomical rare to get things like high runes and what not.

My personal guess is Bandit/Thief, but that is taken so I'm going to have to go with some kind of fallen angel type character.

posted a message on The Monk is a support class like the Pally
Simply because he doesn't directly support other characters. If we were to take your stance on what determines what is and isn't a support class, then every class is a support class. The barbarian for instance has his war cries, buffs for teammates debuffs for monsters. The wizard has her slow time for players to stand in to avoid projectiles. The witch doctor has his crowd control through his horrify skill. These are just some examples.

considering that they have to have the hardware and software to handle 12 million accounts, 165mill isn't 95% profit

they also spend a lot on marketing/advertising/etc

and then you have SWE and CS people who work in a competitive market and need lots of money for cars and homes (oh and they live in failafornia and prob have to pay 200% more than they have to for those things)

people assume wow sub money goes into a giant treasure chest that can get used for w/e they want...

Give me a few to look up the source, but I read somewhere that they only spend sub 5 million on their servers. As for them spending a bunch of money on marketing and advertising, that's a lot less than you think considering mountain dew/ect probably pays THEM to put the wow logo on their drinks.

No way will ythere be a subscription fee if im not mistake WoW makes round 150 million dollars a year thats enough to pay every blizzard employee at least half a mil each. There is no way they will need sc2 and D3 ot be extra cshcows they have it and its wow and blizzzard said no fees that means no fees

Uhh, blizzard makes 165 million dollars a month, not a year. If you consider that 95% of that is pure profit(which it is), that still leaves 8,250,000 for paying their employees and paying for servers.

posted a message on The Druid
I took that little snippet from the interview as it being someone from diablo 2(i.e. an npc, that will become a class, sort of like the assassin from Natalya in act 3). I'm still betting my money on a bandit type class similar to Elzyx in act 2(the gamble merchant).

Now that I think about it more, a class like the Dhervish from guild wars would be amazing. Melee/ranged hybrid with spear! Course that would be very similar to the javelin tree for the amazon, but still that sounds awesome. It would provide buffs through...uhh..I don't want to say warcries because that's the barbarians territory, but some sort of mechanic.
