I'm sorry but where did you get this information about bigger stash size? Or is that just speculation?

posted a message on New item type, no sets
Not sure if anyone's seen this before, but this is Jay Wilson's last few lines from his interview on Blizzcast #8 - http://eu.blizzard.com/blizzcast/archive/episode8.xml

07:39 - "...so right now magic items are blue, rare items are yellow, unique items I think they're purple ? I'm operating off memory here but they might be different actually because I think we use purple for something else for an item type we haven?t announced yet. Then if we do set items they'll be green, we haven't made a call on set items yet."

He mentions 1) a new item type; and 2) set items may or may not return. What could that new item type be? Before this he talked about customizability (is that a word?) which leads me to believe maybe it's for a crafted item category? Also, your thoughts about sets possibly not returning?

posted a message on Hotbar functionality
Yea you can still set your right/left click. But apparently you also have the ability for immediate cast w/ just a hot key. Eliminates a click, in most cases. At least, think that's the point.

The only problem I'm seeing is actually clicking on the hot bar to cast, as opposed to using the corresponding number on the keyboard. I don't think that'll be effective, especially with directional attacks. Defeats the purpose.

If you can get your hands on a copy of Nox, pick it up, run it in windows 98 compatibility mode, and try the hot bar out. It's pretty neat but can be problematic. I feel like that's what they're aiming for with this change.

I'm sure there's been a similar discussion, but didn't find it in the search. Thought I'd add a bit more to the noise.

As we've all seen, they are replacing the potion belt with a hotbar - so in addition to only selecting your skills for primary/secondary mouse-based use, you also have the option of hitting a hotkey for immediate use of a skill/spell.

A lot of people have been speculating what this bodes for directional attacks and wonder how significantly it will affect playing styles. Well, I rehashed this hack-n-slash/RPG called Nox this weekend, just for the heck of it. It has a hotbar that I think is very similar to what is planned in D3, and it got me thinking about D3.

I think it's going to be a very effective change and I welcome it. What are your thoughts?

Don't forget, they'll probably do a Collector's Edition for anywhere from $70 to $1,000,000 bucks.

    Speaking of Charged Bolt....

does the video here http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/714955/diablo-iii/videos/diablo3_blizzcon08_101008.html not show some form of charged bolt in action? I hope it looks better in the final release but I'm pretty sure this is it.

Also with the flashbangs a previous reply mentioned - would be cool to see sparks fly. I love particle systems in games (I think Nox did a great job of using particles) and I think it would really complement the lightning strikes.

Success = 20 hours a week? -croak- I better step up my playtime!

If you clear out an entire game, and don't find anything useful - that IS pretty flawed. I'd expect 20+ hours a week and huge amounts of farming to be characteristic of an MMO, but Diablo 3? That's not exactly something Blizzard can market to casual gamers, which is where they are trying to go with this.

The OP question was about MF in Diablo 3, and bottom line, why are so many folks certain that this absolutely HAS to return in D3? I don't get it.

do any of you realize this YOU DONT HAVE TO USE MF, if you want you can run bosses over and over without any mf.

Sure, you don't HAVE to use it, but then you're behind everyone else who does. It's a completely unbalanced mechanic, and it has a ripple effect.

I think we can all agree though that the looting system in D2 was flawed. Lots of worthless junk and super-low chances to find anything worthwhile. Some think that's perfect, but for a game with a lot of emphasis on looting, it sure doesn't allow much in the way of worthwhile playtime. With that said, throwing in a broken mechanic to fix that imperfection is just way more trouble. I hope they find a better balance in D3. Notice when I say balance, I'm talking about the base looting system. Not a mod that haphazardly patches it up.

magic find just adds another element to the game that unsophisticated players like all of you cant handle. the key is balance

Unsophisticated? Be sophisticated and go get a job with all the time spent working on Magic Find builds and looting. I mean - would you honestly rather find an elite unique or pick up a phat paycheck? Wait, don't answer that.

posted a message on Solution to third parties?
Going back to the question of why doesn't Blizzard stop them... it's a matter of manpower. Big brother's not gonna patrol and enforce Blizzard's terms, so Blizzard has to hire new people to do this. It's quite an undertaking, and the item-hocking merchants will just evolve to accommodate their means.

Warhammer Online, I think, easily tackled the problem with Banhammer. They made it very easy to report gold sellers. Of course, I think Blizzard could implement something similar. Any effort, I believe, would massively help the quality of multiplayer. Besides, others are profitting off of Blizzard's success. They should be looking after their namesake!

Truth of the matter, though, is that item selling is like a cancer and it will probably spread in different ways. I hope that Blizz can tackle it right off the bat. I mean, it's a matter of QUALITY assurance. If Blizzard cares about the quality of their games, they should care about this problem as well. It's just a matter of implementing it.

    Kiserai,

I have no clue how you're doing that then. My discs are from when the game came out - is there a new port of the game? If not, care to shed some light on the subject for me as well?

    Ent1ty,

The graphics card is not the problem, it's the fact that you're on Intel. Diablo II's Mac version will only work on the older Power-PC processors, not the new Intels. Diablo II was designed for Mac before they adopted Intel. Also, the integrated graphics card (GMA series) are only on the lower end white Macbooks, and not meant for games or really much of anything other than the pretty GUI. I have one of these white Macbooks and sometimes games are hit or miss.

And yes, Boot Camp would probably be your best option for running Diablo II. I have an Intel Mac Pro and have to run boot camp just for older games.

Thankfully, Apple has gotten with the program and started offering GeForce 9900's in their new line of 13 inch notebooks. Great move, if you're in the market for a new laptop but don't want a MBP.

Also, I'm assuming Blizzard would not design for outdated systems. Apple is almost officially done supporting Power-PC (which the release of Snow Leopard later this year) so it would be complete insanity for Blizzard to design for a system that's soon to be no-longer in use.

You've got X% to find magic items. You play Y amount of time and/or you fight Z number of monsters. Those variables affect your chances. On top of that you have different drop rates for different monsters and encounters. That in no way entails homogenous gameplay. How is that everyone getting the same? I'm not talking about curtailing gamers' efforts and giving a handicap to others. That's like... socialism in the game world. I'm talking about putting the focus back on the gameplay. Sure, loot's great, but it's not the game. Magic Find steals away from that gameplay.

Having hours and hours devoted to a modifier to X% was and still is a terrible idea for game play, and was pointless in and of itself when you couldn't use any of what you found. In short and infrequent instances, in the form of a buff or special encounter (akin to an EXP shrine), great incentive. But as a way of gaming, terrible cycle that negatively affects the gameplay for most players.

How boring do you guys think the game would be with an EXP mod on armor? Oh wait, I shouldn't ask.

Sorry but I like depth and challenge in my game play, and don't care for crappy elements that make me have to play in excess and in a boring repetitious state just to keep up. If I wanted to farm or do something tedious, I would plant a big veggie garden out back. (hmmm not a bad idea.)

No one's talking about being equal. But there's a threshold. If you absolutely require special gear in order to get other special gear, then that is completely unnecessary. All of a sudden the bulk of Blizzard's player-base is off the radar, because they only play Diablo (in addition to other games they own) for less than an hour a day (Google gaming statistics, and by the way, over 2 hours a day is considered addiction in many studies). Sooner or later the average player either has to play more and get involved in the magic find cycle or they can't compete. You don't want equality and your hard work to amount to nothing, but you want balance. And a repetitive cycle that forces others to have certain builds is not balance. Like a previous poster said, Blizzard can find more creative and 'healthier' ways to make the game challenging in this sense.
