D2 was never acknowledged as a PvP game that was part of the problem.

I used to agree with you on that one. But playing D2 online for so long completely took away my desire to appeal intellectually to some lardass, obnoxious 13 year old 400 miles away. I enjoy the fact that I can slaughter idiots by the hundreds and not go to jail. Isn't that why we play these games - to have a little break from reality?

Online situations are vastly different from the intimate parent-child relationship you have just described.

I agree... I used to have a lvl 30 chargedin. Bonesnap - the whole deal. I would join act four "kill diablo" games and hostile entire parties. I would take the wp down, wait until they were about half way in and proceed to PK the entire party. Lots of swearing and upset kids would ensue... I would leave the game right after leaving the party dumb founded. Best fun you can have in these kind of games.

Well I just want to be able to purchase low-mid level uniques/rares/set items from people using gold. I expect high end stuff to still be item trade hopefully.

That way when I start I don't have to have a good item to get a good item, I can actually save up gold for it.

I would LOVE to see trade caravans with rare and unique items that have a % chance to spawn every time you make a game. Something real low like .01%.

That would make gold worth something

Right now they're not that major of a problem but I remember when LoD first came out. Got annoying. More players = more PKs.

It was still never really a major problem, compared to say duping - it was pretty minimal. Even if the system in D3 from D2 didn't change - it wasn't that bad at all. It's only going to get better and I doubt they will go backwards.

That's why I dont understand all the fuss. D2 was actually a pretty good system. It was totally avoidable.

What will give value to gold is items for sale from vendors that are comparable to the best rares and uniques. Which I don't see happening honestly.

Lets keep in mind this all hear say at the moment - until we all actually know what the PvP system/hostile system will be.

If D3 is the same as D2 - I see no reason why PKs will ever really be a major problem.

So as far as I'm concered for a PK system to work you need:
    1) Consequences for the PKer (less consequence than the person dying though), which prevents senseless, mass killings
    2) A way to find where people are and have a chance to avenge your death at a later time

And with that said I'm not sure if Diablo can accomodate those two points.

Also having more of a skill/spell based system of game play helps where items don't come into play as much.

    This isn't true.

You set the level restriction to +/- 4 levels, you level up 10 times, zomg the level restriction is from when you were 10 levels ago, the highest level that can join is now -6 levels to you...not going to be helping you much / leeching experience...

Secondly, all the actual decent PKers used characters around the same level they wanted to PK, just geared for PKing. Level restriction doesn't work there.

I'm happily running along the Bloody Foothills with my sorc using a spirit sword and some crappy shield, when all of a sudden comes a decked out PKer with mass FRW, damage etc, and bam I get deeds. Yeah. REAL fun, all my items are gone, all the effort I put into getting a character that far...

The non-consensual loss of items / time played is reason enough for PKing to be disabled in D3.

most games expire off the list after 30 min anyways. make a new game if you're concerned about new people joining.

last time i checked you don't lose items when you get pked. i have no idea what you're talking about.

if you're playing hardcore and dont make a TP or leave the game right away thats you're problem.

wow look how easy it is to aviod it

banning and kicking would be abused more than player killing.

you could kick people right before a boss dies taking loot.

fair enough. but if your sole concern is to prevent a high level PKer from entering your game, a level restriction has no effect on actual game play once you've made the game. which is really what it boils down to. there's no way to effectively police it otherwise.

as far as socializing and meeting new people goes, we are not talking about the sims here.

Yeah usually people play online to meet people, not to prey on lower levels. I know this might be a abstract concept to you.

whats an abstract concept to me is why you're so against something that's really not even a huge problem to begin with and completely avoidable.

Yeah I'll make a password protected game! Great way to meet people!

you really have trouble meeting people huh? out all your posts i've read that seems to be your constant worry and fear. that some how all these big bad pks out there are preventing you from meeting friends

No that's what makes it fun for PKs and kills people trying to play just cooperatively.

That's why there are features in place that can cut down AND eliminate these unwanted elements. Such as level restrictions and password protected games.
It's not hard to understand. Blizzard has to cater to both sides. They are not here to baby sit you.

Yea... I mean you're really not going to convince a person who thinks PKing is fun otherwise. It's FUN for them just like killing monsters is FUN for you. These elements are always going to clash and that's what makes it FUN for everyone who plays.
