Free for all also really favors people who sit back and pick off weaker enemies. If you can just survive until the end with more HP than the other guy you win.

    Quote from Irrational

I have another Science vs. Religion debate coming up, so I am posting this on multiple forums for information on why people turn to a deity for explanations. The new creationist argument against science is that because the chance of life appearing on Earth as it is today is SO SLIM (and trust me, it is)
I'm going to have to stop you right there. There are currently NASA operations going on looking for water on Europa, one of Jupiter's moons. The moon is covered in ice, but the gravitational forces of Jupiter cause the ice, and the moon itself, to flex, which could create enough heat to melt the innermost layers of the ice. There was also a recent discovery of a planet that meets the 'Goldilocks requirement' for being a potential life-harboring planet. I'm not saying that either of these spots have life, but I'm just pointing out that we're only very recently building satellites and other tools that could allow us to identify worlds that have water, and potentially life on them, so we really have no idea how common things like water, or any of the other building blocks of life, are on other planets, but we will in the nearish future. Now, all these searches could eventually be fruitless, but if even a tiny bit of bacteria, or even just water, is found on these planets it could point towards life being considerably more common than we currently think.

As for the actual topic, I generally lean towards atheism. The furthest I ever go towards believing in a deity is something like a grand watchmaker, where somebody caused an event like the Big Bang and then let things play out by themselves.

If you're doing 1v1, there's no teams, but other than that, yes, there's no free-for-all :(
Well that would be a pretty obvious choice for another PvP mode, and I doubt that the Arena will be the only PvP mode for all that long after release, if they don't have multiple modes at first.

Even with the Health Globes arena matches were only 30 or so seconds at Blizzcon. Without them arena matches would be so fast it would be nearly impossible to react before you die. And its considerably different when getting a 'powerup' allows you to survive for a bit longer compared to allowing you to kill faster.

posted a message on Randomized Randomization
I personally disliked D2's random outdoor environments. It always just led to me having to cover an entire area before I found the waypoint, just to have to do the same thing the next time I entered an area. And from the sounds of it, D3's environments will basically be random with static borders and roads, so they're easier to navigate. Still just as much, or close to as much, replayability without the wandering around part. Large outdoor environments simply don't lend themselves to being completely random.

I don't see why a loot table is so much better than just having a guaranteed legendary drop or something of the sort. You'd still have the random loot of Diablo, while guaranteeing that the boss run is worth your while, even if it isn't the legendary you were looking for. Obviously that wouldn't work as well if there were only a few legendaries, but that probably won't be the case and even if it is they could just have legendaries/magic items be favored for a boss. It would basically be a broader, random, and ultimately more Diablo appropriate loot table.

I don't know if Blizzard has answered this at all, but I'm assuming the traps will at least be hard to see for opponents in PvP. And you'd still be able to place them in chokepoints and then drive people towards them, or use them where Health Globes are going to drop, even if the enemy can see them.

Well you'll have to know how much you could trade it for and what kind of stats you're looking for. And as far as looks go they could easily have something where you can see how an item looks on your character before equipping it. And as far as functionality, its not like one sword works completely different than another. And even if they did, making such an easily exploitable system to allow people to test things out would be pretty bad imo. It would just make it so that some people could get full use out of an item before trading it, even though its designed to be taken out of the economy once you use it.

As nice as it would be if there was some system that made it so that people who play 1 hour a day got the same rewards as people who play 15 hours a day, while still making it so that the more hardcore players had a reason to play as much as they do, its pretty much impossible. So I'm sure people who play more will get better loot, etc than people who don't play as much. Its simply unavoidable.

Well its not like you take off your gear all that much after the first time putting it on. So it would have to function quite a bit differently than that. And most of the time its just a straight upgrade of stats so you won't have to try it in order to know if its better/worse.

It could be like the torture rack in the Blizzcon demo where when you click on it and the person on it gets lowered into the rack, but the iron maiden would obviously close instead.
