Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed hearing that the item generation system will be exactly like in D2 - I think that was one of the most broken aspects of the game. Oh well... -

I would play both. Diablo 3 from 8AM to 2 PM. SC2 from 2PM to 5PM, and then Diablo 3 for the rest of the evening. That's pretty much the idea, agreed.Quote from "Michoco" »But I think they carefuly studied the market before announcing the game and it seems for now the plan is to stick with the classic model (=buy the box, play for free). -

Well your entire hypothesis relies on the fact that MMO = Teen, which is absurd. For example, AoC is an M rated MMO. Why do you think Diablo would move away from the image and change that? They repeated several times that Diablo = M, end of story.Quote from "Michoco" »teen MMO would affect the core very deeply; we (diablofans) are waiting for a true diablo experience, why would they frustrate us by changing that while they have WoW to satisfy the teen MMO audience ? the next gen MMO can very well be simply WoW 2 (no clue though, so IMO).
The problem is that people have this nasty prejudice that all MMOs = WoW. If Diablo ever recieved an MMO entry, it would be an M-rated MMO with isometric perspective. Those exist, you know?
Another thing. What 'diablofans' is waiting for is irrelevant to the whole thing - Diablo fans are looking forward to seeing a sequel to complete the trilogy atm. (some more, some less). If there was a Diablo-based MMO, that would be a completely different franchise, and you are not even expected to be interested in it. WoW was placed in the Warcraft universe, but it's a completely separate franchise from the three Warcraft games - the RTS players were not expected to shift to an MMORPG - it constructed a separate fanbase from a broader audience. If they ever make a Diablo MMO game, and for some reason you have a phobia or a problem with MMOs, just look the other way on the release date - I don't see why would you be concerned about Blizzard's MMOs or RTS'. -

Something like them already exists seeing from the gameplay trailer.Quote from "Johnnyxp64" »i disagree with wraiths i thing they can be really cool in 3d!
Anyway, I actually liked Sand Raiders. They were one of those monsters with 'zazz'. -
Sep 11, 2008Dimebog posted a message on Diablo 3 Outdoors are not Random GeneratedWhat? Blizzard already says they are aiming for an M rated game, but even if it's not, you should really reconsider yourself if playing a T rated game represents a threat to your manliness.Posted in: News
They are making a game as the please to make it, having M rating in mind but they don't make decisions in regard to the rating. It's up to ESRB to say their final word on that.
P.S. Who says MMO games are rated Teen? Who says they are making an MMO? It's unannounced - it can be anything. -
Sep 11, 2008Dimebog posted a message on Diablo 3 Outdoors are not Random GeneratedI don't want to hear another thing about respecs in D3. In Diablo 2 you could recreate your character and get it to level 85 and make a fresh build in ONE SINGLE DAY. So practically D2 had free respecs. If D3 doesn't have some bullshit like rushing and power-leveling - a normal and limited respec system is a must.Posted in: News

Either state your opinion or shove it. If you want to quote me next time, finish your thought, like 'I stopped reading there because I'm an illiterate retard' or something like 'I stopped reading there because you said Diablo 1 didn't have skilltrees and I am a retard who didn't know that', or 'I stopped reading there because Blizzard is incompetent to pull off a good skill system'. Whichever the reason, either say something worthwhile, or don't quote me at all.Quote from "Doppelganger" »Um, wut?

Why ask me? As for the light radius - just watch the video closely, and see how there's a circle of light following the main character as he traverses into pitch-back areas. I can make screenshots of the video to demonstrate it, but you can just not be lazy and see it for yourself.Quote from "permaximum" »@dimebog
I can't see light radius in gameplay video or screenshots. Are there going to be items which add points to light raidus?
Lie? When you say Blizzard is telling lies, that's just something beyond which I can make a sensible argument against. Mythos looks horrible. It's a more childish game than a Disney fairytale, and those dark dungeons look horrible. You can't really identify things for shit. As I said, the only reason why D2 used pastel colors to represent some monsters is to make them easier to recognize when you are attacked in swarms (did you see swarms attacking in Mythos gameplay videos?) - and pulling of something like that in a realistic 3D environment would look retarded. Just think about it. D2 had a gritty realistic look, but there were so many symbolic things like color swapping tricks etc which made monsters look like they are extroterestrials.Quote from "permaximum" »Defining monster is a big lie.Have you ever watched Mythos's gameplay video? It's 3D, very dark game.It looks perfect and you can seperate unique monsters easily. Also it has light radius too in 3D.So defining mosters is a big liea as i said before.
The didn't 'remove' charms, runewords and horadric cube. They didn't take Diablo 2 and start modding it - they started from scratch, and decided what to PUT in, and not taking every single detail from D2 and decide what to take OUT. There's a difference. Your argument is just as good as someone saying that D2 is not a true sequel because it 'took out' spell scrolls and books, and made the durability system for carebears because your items no longer dissapear when their durability wears out completely. With those things in mind, D3 retains more things from D2 than D2 did from D1. And so what about mana and health leaching? They weren't there because they're cool. They were there to improve the gameplay - since you do not know how D3 gameplay is going to be like - it's pointless to brand certain things as a loss because they might not have brought anything good in the first place. If Blizzard didn't include it, there was a good reason for that. If they do happen to include it (since it's not final) then there will be a really good reason to include it. That's how things work.Quote from "permaximum" »So they removed charms, runewords, horadric cube because they are only in D2. Okay. What about health and mana leeching? They were used in both original Diablo and Diablo II... -
Sep 11, 2008Dimebog posted a message on Diablo 3 Outdoors are not Random GeneratedI don't agree with anything. Diablo 1 didn't have skill trees at all, and it was a good game. No matter how they make the skill system in D3 it will be good.Posted in: News
You're complaining about the lacking of charms, runewords and Horadric cube? That's just nonsense. Those are things typical to D2, there's no reason what-so-ever to implement them in D3. Just like how D1 didn't have them but had other things instead. The game evolves.
You're complaining about boss battles. Now that's the one that's by far the most ridiculous. D2 boss combat came down to pounding the boss while he pounds back at you. What's wrong with adding a bit of depth to the combat? It can only make the game better and more interesting. All bosses in D2 were pretty much the same and the tactic was identical, all that was different was amount of HP and the sprite they used. You really can't complain about that as a 'loss'.
You're saying they removed the light radius. That's not true - it still exists - but you can't expect a 2D filter to work in a game where 3D objects are only visible if there are true light sources. That said, the light radius still exists, and they said that there even might be dungeons where you completely rely on your limited light radius and nothing else. Moving on.
Outdoors might not be as randomized as they were before, but this time around the randomization will be relevant to the gamplay. The way they were randomized before was as good as not being random at all - it made no difference at all.
The last issue is the art issue, and that's just a matter of taste. You have to separate Blizzard's 2D games with 3D games. All their 3D games - WC3, WoW, SC2 and D3 have the exact same 3D style - the Blizzard 3D style, which differs from Blizzard's 2D style. You just have to accept that. The point is that the way D2 handled uniqueness of certain monsters looked silly and cartoonish when translated to 3D and I can 100% relate to that - making 3D models purple, bright green, bright blue, plain bright red would look silly in the fleshy 3D world. They had to resort to something different. But still as I said, it's only a matter of taste. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

But they do permaban people who trade with ingame gold. And nowadays the game has evolved to a point where buying gold for money is completely obsolete. There is no competitive field of WoW where real life money can buy you an advantage anymore.

How many stat points did D2 give you to distribute by the time you hit 99 anyway? 505 stat points? Take WoW for example. There you can get 505 stat points on a SINGLE ITEM. That's a HUGE impact. Not to mention that D2 stats didn't really do all that much, and they can make them actually matter this time around. For example, one stamina point in WoW gives you 10 health depending on the class. All stats effect something really vital depending on your class or build, and most stats affect more than just one thing.
So stats DO matter. You just won't get them "for free" to place them where you want, and by limiting you in that respect, they stop limiting you in what gear you can wear, since that is what stats in D2 did basically.

But really, I can't claim that the skill design "belongs" to one company or the other. I just find it fascinating that they are exact copies.

Say, you chug a potion while fighting a boss, and it is on a cooldown until that boss dies, otherwise no waiting required. When fighting regular monsters, the cooldown could be over as soon as you leave the room and enter another room or section. A bit rough, but would work.
