Something made me laugh about all these early pre-orders.
I went to a EBGames(Gamestop) last summer(at the start of june) to buy an Xbox360 game, and the salesman offered me to pre-order Diablo3. I laughed a bit at him, saying "Shouldn't you offer me a pre-order for SC2, since it'll be released a lot earlier than Diablo3?" and his answer was: "I wouldn't be that sure of it, Vivendi sent us a notice that D3 should be released in January or February 2010".
So, I only said no thanks, as I understood that this salesman was simply REALLY poorly informed. Anyone following D3 news even just a little bit would already know it if Vivendi sent a notice for a D3 release date, even if it's just an estimation.
-
Anyway, I told him that I'll take Diablo3 pre-order offers seriously only when Blizzard will announce Collector's Edition, and that I'll buy the Collector's.
We should'n't take any of these pre-orders seriously, except if you don't mind not being 100% sure to get your game... Of course it's "safe" but nobody knows what'll happen in this "at least" 1 year... I know it's not likely, but what if GameStop or the place where you pre-ordered it was to close because of financial problems, within the next year? Or if the list of pre-order is destroyed within this 1+ year?
I think it's really too early. Why would you pay that early for a game you'll only play in a year? To make sure to have the money when it's released? I'm sorry but there are a lot more(and safer) ways to make sure of that.

Anyway, good read, keep on working on it to make a great game, and stop playing, so we can play faster! -

It looks more 'clean' and also I'm glad the forum toolbar is still there, looking at the screenshot I wasn't sure it would make the new design, and I often use the 'Quick Links' menuPosted in: News
The only "cons" I'd say, is that the width of the content frame doesn't adjust anymore with the screen resolution, that's a point that I really loved from the old design, but it really isn't important, just a personal opinion.
Good job, keep it going! -

It was a huge success last year and everybody had fun getting the live up-to-the-minute updates, so we had to do it again. Make sure you're here on Diablofans at the appropriate times so you can join in the chatroom discussion with us!
Yeah, I went back on the post to see if I missed something, but he only said to come on Diablofans at the appropriate time, so I was almost worried -

It's making me feel like there's going to be nothing new when I've been waiting so long. I've literally been blocking all the pictures, screenshots, and videos with my hand. I wanted it to be news with BlizzCon..
Dont worry, people only played a new version of the demo, and we're getting all excited over every little bit of news that we can extract from analyzing the videos. But at BlizzCon, we'll have the real announcements!
I dont know if you've seen any new announcement made by any developer during GamesCon, but Blizzard's staff seems to keep all their precious infos for their own conference, 2 days later!

And for the MF, if it's coming back only in the form of shrines, or random buffs, I'll be really happy, I dont really want MF to be on gear anymore... It can be additionnal to some unique items, but I dont really want a 'Modifier' on items for MF... -

If by 'WoW music' you mean the songs played by Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain, like "I am a murloc", "Rogues do it from behind", etc... They are played by a real band, formed of some members of Blizzard's staff. I'd be REALLY surprised to see Ozzy singing L80ETC songs at all...

Seriously though, it's a good marketing, I'm just wondering how will Ozzy reach the BlizzCon site? The last time I saw him he wasn't able to move/walk/think, I think the only last thing working with this legend of rock, is his voice. Singing? No problem, you'll feel the energy from the debths of hell in the whole stadium. Walking? Standing? Not enough strength anymore... Please bring me a Frozen Throne or anything so I can sit on while singing. -
Jul 29, 2009lurked posted a message on Traditional Weapon-Character Relation MaintainedPosted in: NewsQuote from "scyberdragon" »
In WoW your weapon was more for stats to boost your spells more than the weapons itself. You would almost never auto attack it was spell after spell after spell.
I guess you played only a caster in WoW, because for any melee class, a weapon was a HUGE upgrade when you got a new one. Yes the stats were important, but the high end dmg/attack speed of the weapon was REALLY important for your auto-attack AND your skills in WoW.
And for a caster, it was less important, it was more for the stats, but they balanced it so caster weapons had less stats budget in the dmg, and instead it was giving tons of Spell Power, to increase the spells dmg, so the significance of a weapon is still there.
So you're right saying that it was more the spells doing the dmg, and obviously the auto-attacks are less important(except for rogues, where it's almost 50% of their dmg), but even in WoW, the weapons were a huge part of the dmg done by most classes. -
Jul 29, 2009lurked posted a message on Traditional Weapon-Character Relation MaintainedPosted in: NewsQuote from "Majpain" »Very Lame if you ask me.
Its almost their trying to force you to play as a pure caster but bringing in skill runes to diversify things but the only thing is its going to create is there will be 1 rune that goes with a skill that is OP and every build will use it.
Blizzard needs to change their way of thinking.
So, you decided, without even trying 1 rune, that it would be extremely unbalanced, and in no way it would make your character different from others of the same class?
I'm sorry, I'm not buying this. The way you're speaking, Blizzard has no idea how to develop a game, and anybody who played any blizz game even 1 day could do a better job and balance everything better...
Playing some kind of skill-based rpg(like Ultima Online, where you dont have a class but hundreds of skills and you choose your 'class' only by using the skills you trained) it would make some sense, but in a class-based game, it's normal for some classes to have weapons limitations...
Of course it's good to have some customization possibilities, to try some unexpected builds... But IMO a wizard able to wear a 2hands sword/maul is completely BS and doesn't fit in any respected RPG... That's one of the thing that was totally nonsensical in Diablo2.
Very lame, if you ask me. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

You're right, it's much more noob friendly than Dota, and generally, people are a bit less the elitist jerks that you see in Warcraft3 - Dota, and overall I think the heroes are better balanced.
I don't understand what you're saying, that when you join you have no idea what's going on... Why? I mean, it's exactly the same as Dota, except the start of the game, where you choose your hero and your 2 bonus spells.
I'm not a sick Dota player, but I personally prefer League of Legends to Dota...

I got a beta key a few weeks ago for League of Legends, and it's really a good remake of the famous dota custom map from Warcraft3, with some great improvements to the gameplay.
When I downloaded it, I was really expecting a copy of the game, with a few changes... Yes it's the same game, heroes & minions one against the other, but I'm actually having more fun with this game that I had with the original Dota.
Good job Riot games, lets polish this a bit more, and I'm sure it'll be a good 'success'
BTW, the graphics are a bit 'cartoonish', but I really like how it blends with the style of the game. Two thumbs up!

First, x64 =/= 64bits -> Read on it if you want, but there's a huge difference between what Intel released around year 2000(pure 64bit) and what AMD released(x64) in early 2004. A 64bit operating system can run anything that a x86(32bit) can. x64 is a mix between pure 64bits technology, and the old x86(286, 386, 486 and all penthiums) technology. Only some drivers, DLLs, and poorly programmed(using x86 DLLS only, etc.) applications wont run correctly.
2nd, 64bits improves a lot more than only the 'max ram you can have', every calculation that is more than 2+2 will take advantage of it. A higher max ram doesn't make any program faster. BUT, if you're like me, running more than 1 application at the time on your computer, it helps a lot to have more.
I usually run : Any recent game + MSN Messenger + Web browser opened on forums + Facebook + Windows Media Player for music (+ Windows)... It can often take more than the 3.xxG max you can have with 32bits.
We've recently made the switch from XP32 to Vista64 at job for about 1/3 of our 150 workstations, and I was in the team who had to make sure that every application was still working in Vista64. Do you want me to make a(obviously long) list of the applications that wouldn't work? Here it is, get ready : None(Except an homemade tool for SolidWorks, which was updated within 2days).
You said we saw many issues with 64bits, and it was only the start! Well, like someone said, those problems were the start, in 2000... The IT progression is going fast enough that 9 years later, most applications can run without any problem in an x64 environment.
I'm not saying you HAVE to use a 64bits box to be able to run games, or that you need more than 4g to do anything nowadays, but I think that staying with a 32bit XP OS when your machine is powerful enough for 64bits(don't forget there's an XP64bits too...) is a bit like using pen + paper for the accountability of an enterprise... It still works great and we're used to it, but hell we'd be able to do so much more things using a computer...
Edit: And BTW, nowadays most processors + motherboards are native 64bits, the only thing that decides if your computer is running 32 or 64bits is the OS you're installing on. It wont be more expensive to have a 64bits rig, so why not installing the OS that'll use your computer to the max of his performances?

It really depends on what you want to do, you mentioned Diablo3 and we know that Blizzard makes games compatible with Macs so it's not a problem. But you're probably not buying a computer only for Diablo3, what else will you use it for?
After a quick search on google, I'd suggest to take a small look at this, it seems to pretty much cover it...

Personally, I'm sold to PC, probably because of the possibility of customization.

But a while ago I downloaded "D12 - Purple Pills", because I liked the song, and yeah, my friends and roommate 'laughed' at it when my playlist decided to play this song on random...

They could reveal some minor changes or news while answering questions to the people who went there, but I don't see them announcing anything major at an expo, that close to the BlizzCon.

People will probably flame at me(puts on fireproof helmet), but for this reason I'm kinda glad that the stats allocation will probably be automatic. What I mean is that in Diablo2, you had a few points to put in dex for block, in str for armors, and maybe even a few in energy. And then, all the rest you stack stamina, to survive in Hell difficulty...
Hmmm... yeah, it's a great way to customize your character, but if you wanted a 'balanced' character, you were simply running to your death. Balanced stats weren't the way to go in Diablo2.
But now, with the auto-allocation of the stats, without your items, you'll have about the same amount of HP than anyone else of the same class as you, so it'll be skill that'll come to be important, not how much stam you stacked, and how fast you hit 'esc' -> Leave Game(I'm talking about hardcore mode here...)
Anyway, stamina isn't my ennemy, but the fact that you had to stack it as "your only way to survive in hell" kinda disappointed me. Lets hope that health pool will be better balanced now

Yes, there are some points you can discuss 2 years early, but the balance is the last thing they'll do, especially PvP balance, so we should at least let them take a look at it before to say they did it wrong...
Spells can(and will) change. Spells limitations or special spell's behaviours in PvP aren't applied at all. It's like saying that only 2 zones isn't enough for a game and is gamebreaking(They only showed 2 zones, so there are only 2 zones in the game, right?)
Of course you can ask what we think of the impact of a spell in PvP, how we think it'll behave, and how do we think they'll make it work. But saying that a spell in his shell form is overpowered in a not-yet-designed PvP system, is a bit too early imo.
0
Anyway, rant about skills in PvP will always exist, I'm just sad that it has to start 1-2years before the game to be released.
Edit: @OP: I'm sorry but you last post hurts my eyes. We aren't saying Blizzard is perfect and makes perfect games, we're saying they(imo) aren't dumb enough to deliberately include a spell in the game without thinking of it's impact in PvP(now that we know that they're designing the game with PvP in mind), and that we should let them at least start the beta, before to scream that the shell of their game includes overpowered skills.

Here's a quote from Jay Wilson, in a interview earlier this year. It wasn't at BlizzCon, but it's still quite recent(March 2009), here's what he had to say about the number of difficulties in the game.
Source(at 2m02s in the video)
So they will do at least 3 difficulties, but they haven't yet said that they'll do only 3 of them. If they did at BlizzCon, it was during a panel that wasn't in the Stream, so please point me where they did so

Of course, if this spell behaves the same versus a Player Character(PC) than it does in PvE, it can be troublesome. But we have no idea how it'll be balanced for PvP! Just a quick exemple from WoW(I know, dont compare D3 with WoW, blah blah blah) : The mage's "Polymorph" spell. In PvE, lasts 50(OMFG OVERPOWERED) seconds. Though, on a PvP target, it lasts only a max of 10seconds, and each time it's used on the same target in the following 30secondes, a Diminishing Return applies, reducing the sheep time by half each time, and the 4th time, the target turns immune.
That's a HUGE difference compared to the way it behaves in PvE, and it was needed for a competitive PvP. The same thing happens for fear, stun, etc.
So, I'd say : "Wait to see any kind of PvP before to yell that a skill is OP."
I'm not saying we can't discuss of a game until it's finished. I'm saying that Blizzard said they are designing the game with PvP in mind, so I trust that they wont release the game with a spell that totally breaks the PvP, without some kind of counter to it for every class, or limitations to the spell to make it PvP-balanced.
