Something made me laugh about all these early pre-orders.
I went to a EBGames(Gamestop) last summer(at the start of june) to buy an Xbox360 game, and the salesman offered me to pre-order Diablo3. I laughed a bit at him, saying "Shouldn't you offer me a pre-order for SC2, since it'll be released a lot earlier than Diablo3?" and his answer was: "I wouldn't be that sure of it, Vivendi sent us a notice that D3 should be released in January or February 2010".
So, I only said no thanks, as I understood that this salesman was simply REALLY poorly informed. Anyone following D3 news even just a little bit would already know it if Vivendi sent a notice for a D3 release date, even if it's just an estimation.
-
Anyway, I told him that I'll take Diablo3 pre-order offers seriously only when Blizzard will announce Collector's Edition, and that I'll buy the Collector's.
We should'n't take any of these pre-orders seriously, except if you don't mind not being 100% sure to get your game... Of course it's "safe" but nobody knows what'll happen in this "at least" 1 year... I know it's not likely, but what if GameStop or the place where you pre-ordered it was to close because of financial problems, within the next year? Or if the list of pre-order is destroyed within this 1+ year?
I think it's really too early. Why would you pay that early for a game you'll only play in a year? To make sure to have the money when it's released? I'm sorry but there are a lot more(and safer) ways to make sure of that.

You see, not everyone can have peace in mind, eh?
Anyway, good read, keep on working on it to make a great game, and stop playing, so we can play faster! -
Aug 20, 2009lurked posted a message on Diablofans Redesign Launching Tomorrow! Plus, Live Chats During BlizzCon!Really great the new design, seriously. It looks more 'clean' and also I'm glad the forum toolbar is still there, looking at the screenshot I wasn't sure it would make the new design, and I often use the 'Quick Links' menuPosted in: News
The only "cons" I'd say, is that the width of the content frame doesn't adjust anymore with the screen resolution, that's a point that I really loved from the old design, but it really isn't important, just a personal opinion.
Good job, keep it going! -

It was a huge success last year and everybody had fun getting the live up-to-the-minute updates, so we had to do it again. Make sure you're here on Diablofans at the appropriate times so you can join in the chatroom discussion with us!
Yeah, I went back on the post to see if I missed something, but he only said to come on Diablofans at the appropriate time, so I was almost worried -

It's making me feel like there's going to be nothing new when I've been waiting so long. I've literally been blocking all the pictures, screenshots, and videos with my hand. I wanted it to be news with BlizzCon..
Dont worry, people only played a new version of the demo, and we're getting all excited over every little bit of news that we can extract from analyzing the videos. But at BlizzCon, we'll have the real announcements!
I dont know if you've seen any new announcement made by any developer during GamesCon, but Blizzard's staff seems to keep all their precious infos for their own conference, 2 days later!

And for the MF, if it's coming back only in the form of shrines, or random buffs, I'll be really happy, I dont really want MF to be on gear anymore... It can be additionnal to some unique items, but I dont really want a 'Modifier' on items for MF... -

If by 'WoW music' you mean the songs played by Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain, like "I am a murloc", "Rogues do it from behind", etc... They are played by a real band, formed of some members of Blizzard's staff. I'd be REALLY surprised to see Ozzy singing L80ETC songs at all...

Seriously though, it's a good marketing, I'm just wondering how will Ozzy reach the BlizzCon site? The last time I saw him he wasn't able to move/walk/think, I think the only last thing working with this legend of rock, is his voice. Singing? No problem, you'll feel the energy from the debths of hell in the whole stadium. Walking? Standing? Not enough strength anymore... Please bring me a Frozen Throne or anything so I can sit on while singing. -
Jul 29, 2009lurked posted a message on Traditional Weapon-Character Relation MaintainedPosted in: NewsQuote from "scyberdragon" »
In WoW your weapon was more for stats to boost your spells more than the weapons itself. You would almost never auto attack it was spell after spell after spell.
I guess you played only a caster in WoW, because for any melee class, a weapon was a HUGE upgrade when you got a new one. Yes the stats were important, but the high end dmg/attack speed of the weapon was REALLY important for your auto-attack AND your skills in WoW.
And for a caster, it was less important, it was more for the stats, but they balanced it so caster weapons had less stats budget in the dmg, and instead it was giving tons of Spell Power, to increase the spells dmg, so the significance of a weapon is still there.
So you're right saying that it was more the spells doing the dmg, and obviously the auto-attacks are less important(except for rogues, where it's almost 50% of their dmg), but even in WoW, the weapons were a huge part of the dmg done by most classes. -
Jul 29, 2009lurked posted a message on Traditional Weapon-Character Relation MaintainedPosted in: NewsQuote from "Majpain" »Very Lame if you ask me.
Its almost their trying to force you to play as a pure caster but bringing in skill runes to diversify things but the only thing is its going to create is there will be 1 rune that goes with a skill that is OP and every build will use it.
Blizzard needs to change their way of thinking.
So, you decided, without even trying 1 rune, that it would be extremely unbalanced, and in no way it would make your character different from others of the same class?
I'm sorry, I'm not buying this. The way you're speaking, Blizzard has no idea how to develop a game, and anybody who played any blizz game even 1 day could do a better job and balance everything better...
Playing some kind of skill-based rpg(like Ultima Online, where you dont have a class but hundreds of skills and you choose your 'class' only by using the skills you trained) it would make some sense, but in a class-based game, it's normal for some classes to have weapons limitations...
Of course it's good to have some customization possibilities, to try some unexpected builds... But IMO a wizard able to wear a 2hands sword/maul is completely BS and doesn't fit in any respected RPG... That's one of the thing that was totally nonsensical in Diablo2.
Very lame, if you ask me. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Are you simply trying to convince yourself?
They used the word 'this' to point at a period, an event. Like, He could've said : "Diablo3 takes place during the St-Patrick. If you don't know, this is a holiday." And you'd replace it by : "Diablo3 takes place during the St-Patrick. If you don't know, this[Diablo3] is a holiday", Then assume that the game will be a holiday?
Seriously, if we assume that every single word in every interview is about the game they're talking about, this[Diablo3] could be a sad day.(You see what I did there?)
Because this[Diablo3] happens every day... ?
-
Also, Jay Wilson clearly said in one of the interviews with the DirectTV animators after one of the Diablo(or Battle.net) panel :
(I'm using my own words, as I can't remember the exact wording)
Interviewer : We've heard a lot of awesome features for StarCraft2 and Battle.net, can you tell us what we can expect for Diablo3 and Battle.net 2.0?
Jay Wilson : Most of the features that have been announced for StarCraft2 and Battle.net should also be present in Diablo3. However, we are actually working on the game itself, making sure that we create Quality(and Fun) content, and then we'll focus on Battle.net and think about all the features that we can bring that'll enhance the gaming experience.
-
Also, look at the attached image, it?s a part of the Blizzcon 2009 schedule.
You can clearly see the name of the Battle.net panel, which is : "StarCraft II Battle.net Discussion"
If Diablo3 was to be released before StarCraft2, wouldn?t they have called the panel "Diablo3 Battle.net Discussion" ?
If Diablo3 was to come in 2009, wouldn't they have announced the Beta incoming before the StarCraft2 one? Wouldn't they have announced any Diablo3 release quarter, like they did with StarCraft2 at the start of the year?
-
If you still think that Diablo3 can possibly be released in 2009, I don't know what else can Blizzard announce to make you think otherwise...
I guess I'll wait 'til december 31, and make a thread : "I told you so!"

I agree. I played spore long enough to reach the space stage, started annihilating 1-2races, but I had no more fun at this point. Started another colony, and got bored before even reaching tribal stage, uninstalled and never played again.
However, my older brother who isn't a gamer at all, loved this game, told me he passed 'tons of hours'(Which probably means like... 10hours, in the eyes of a non-gamer ^_^) on this game, and still has fun!
Anyway, we arent here to discuss of a particuliar game, so here are the games I'm spending my gaming time on, while waiting for StarCraft2(and ultimately, Diablo3), they aren't really new games, but they're the ones that I still have a lot of fun playing(I'm mostly a multiplayer games fan, so) :

StarCraft2 will be the first game using Battle.net 2.0

SC2 Question: "Yes, it will work like this, and will work like that, I think you'll love it!"
D3 Question: "Hmm, we spoke about it, but we aren't sure yet of how we'll implement it. Give suggestions/feedback and we'll see!"
They aren't giving less or more information on a game or another, but when they give the information, you can easily 'feel' that the game is a lot more advanced than the other one.
And you're saying they're giving more info on StarCraft2 to make us think that Diablo3 is farther to the release than it actually is? Go take a look at www.blizzblues.com -> In the last 7days, there has been 9posts concerning Diablo3, and 0 on StarCraft2... If giving more infos or StarCraft2 is a way to make us think like that, they obviously aren't doing it ;).
I'm starting to think that alot of people here only read/watch news or interviews about Diablo3, and not StarCraft2. So a lot don't really have an idea on the progression of StarCraft2, and assume from the Diablo3 news that they read, that Diablo release could be before SC2...
Edit:BTW, don't get me wrong, I'd be so f.ing happy to see Diablo3 released this year, or even in 2010... But sadly, assuming that the info released isn't a huge conspiracy, it wont happen.

On the part where you 'Assumed' they were talking about Diablo3, I actually saw this part of the interview, and it was obvious that they spoke about StarCraft2(Yes, Jay Wilson, lead designer of Diablo3 CAN speak of another game than his main project). They said in many interviews also, that StarCraft2 would be the first game using Battle.net 2.0(Yes, in this interview, you can 'assume' that they're saying Diablo3 would be the first game with those features, but in many, many, many other interviews, they clearly said that it would be StarCraft2 that will be released first, in 2010.
Hell, they even announced StarCraft2 one whole year before, and when they speak about SC2, everything seems clear in their mind, like the game was complete... And when they speak of Diablo, it's always things like: "We haven't yet decided, still alot of work to do on this" or "We've talked about it, but we aren't sure to implement it that way"... If those aren't signs of an unfinished game, I don't know what it is.
People still think(or hope) they're saying that Diablo3 isn't ready on purpose, only to make us think that it'll be released in many years, when it's actually ready? Seriously, if you followed SC2 and D3 news even a small bit, you can notice that SC2 is FAR more complete than Diablo3, and that the development state of Diablo3 still needs a year or two to at least begin the Beta tests.
Sorry to burst your bubble, being optimistic is great, I usually am... But seriously, 95% of the news/interviews we see, make us believe that Diablo is still at least 1-2years from release state, if it's only a conspiracy to make us think it isn't ready when it is, they planned it really f.ing well.

Also, if you find a really great item that is BoE, you'll be able to get a really higher value from it, even when the ladder has been going on for a while.
I think it's a very good point.
Official Blizzard Quote:
We do have bind-on-equip for the highest end items in the game. We targeted, roughly, any item above level 85.
That being said, did you notice the 'highest end items' ? Saying that, he probably meant that only THE best(or 2nd best) items for each class and each slot would be BoE. How often do you think it'll happen that you switch the 2nd best item for the very best one? So very f.ing often that it'll be game breaking that you can't trade the item you just replaced, right?
Also, concerning Hardcore...
First, yes, it has been announced. Not officially in a blue post or anything, but Jay Wilson answered someone during the Q&A, that they want to bring back hardcore mode. That they'll have to do some different tweaks to the game to have a decent hardcore mode, but that they will bring it back. He even asked the crowd if there were Diablo Hardcore players present, and he got quite a big cheer back as an answer
Second, I know it's quite a release when you die in hardcore to be able to get your stuff back, but it's also kinda against the 'Hardcore' mentallity, isnt it? I mean, when you die, you're supposed to start from the begining... Of course it's great to have some of the good gear you got while playing when you start a new hardcoore toon, but you're supposed to start from the begining each time, that's the idea behind hardcore... Anyway, not ALL items will be BoE, just consider these BoE items as a part of your character's skills, and when he dies, he loses his 'skills' too! You can take back a part of your gear(which at level 85+ in hardcore, isn't bad gear at all, and you'll be happy to get it back) but the very best items, die with your character.
It's frustrating, I know(Yeah I know... I lost a level 88 in hardcore because of a TPPK, and I had forgot to give the permission to loot my corpse to my friends in the game, so I know it's frustrating), but I really think that even for Hardcore, the very best items being BoE is an interesting idea.

A lot of people are trying to find tons of reasons why they don't want to be forced to log on Battle.net to be able to play, when their only real reason is: I want to download a pirate version of the game and be able to play the single player & in lan with friends, like a lot of games. Screw that.
I say it's a good thing that Blizzard's trying to include every features that was in the previous games, while still requiring a(minimal) internet connection, to make sure they have a legit account and paid for the game.
They say they want to require a connection to Battle.net for your friendlist and achievements? Thats the politically correct way to say it. They should simply say: Because we want to make sure that if you play, you paid for the f.ing game.

Just to clarify, WarCraftIII is 12 players max in a game, not 8.
But yeah, I really wish it'll be more than 4, at least 6 or 8 would be great...

I know you dont NEED it for the game to be Diablo, that's exactly what I'm asking... How?
Maybe Tyrael is the new Diablo like you say, but what I'm asking is : How can it be Diablo without(any kind of) Diablo in it? Will there be someone else turning into Diablo? If yes, how could this happen, and who would it be? Will the old prime evils come back and form a new evilish entity and call it Diablo? Or will a shard of Diablo's soulstone get inside the ears of Tyrael when he helps destroying it, turning him into the new Diablo?
That's the kind of thing I'm asking. I know Diablo isn't necessarily in his physical form in Diablo, but who will become the bad guy, and how could he become it, after we destroyed the f.ing soulstone?
