Wow I actually like this new change. I think this is a great improvement from the last rune system and will make the game a whole lot less frustrating. Cannot wait for this game now. Also beta.
Love the new skill rune UI and also the idea. Only thing left is I get an invite to beta >.<

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
Yummy article! The new skill rune graphics are kinda hard to distinguish from each other though... The symbols are good but I wish they kept the color.
Questions:
1. +skill gears/items or skill/rune enhancements (+% damage to a certain skill/rune) is a possibility?
2. With the major changes implemented & more beta players, is this a sign of a release date of Q2?
I actually dont mind the new changes. I would PREFER if skillrunes sort of leveled up with you, such that the more you use them, the more experience the skillrune gains and more experience grants a higher level skillrune

Blizzard used to care about releasing Diablo III, then they all took an arrow in the knee...
I've been disappointed in every updates recently. All they've been doing has been to remove the cool things. You actually had to take decision and risks when placing runestones into spells and you would have a stronger character by spending more time into the game getting better runestones. Now the only thing everyone will have to do will be making 1 character of each class to potentially have the same build than anyone else. Now once your character is lvl60 and that you figured out which spells and which spell runes are the best/most appropriate for you, all that will be left will be farming for better equipments and nothing else.
Personally, I think it looks like they "dumb-downed" the rune system due to time constraints and implementation complexity; they want to release the game!
One of the main things about Diablo 2 was farming/hunting for those rare, pesky runes! Now, in D3, we won't be hunting for them--only for gear and such. Plus, and I'm surprised, if you are one of those few in the beginning of the game's release that found that level 7 Indigo Rune and try to sell it for big bucks on the RMAH, Blizzard won't get more cuts from people doing this.
Sounds unenlightening: "I'm level 60, dude, and now I have all the skill runes of the game"; boring.
I guess they're just trying to release the game this year. Can't blame 'em....?
Over the past few months, I can say that I have I haven't liked 90% of changes they made... but these most recent ones are good. My one concern with the new runestone system is that it will take away the "YES, I finally got a level 7 alabaster rune!" moment.
Oh my, what a lot of new information. I kinda like the new rune skill system, at least its better then random rune drops! Whatever the case I hope this will be the last patch xP.
Wow, that's a lot of changes! I gotta admit, the gameplay was getting a bit stale, but I'm looking forward to messing around with the runes finally. I really like Firebats, so I wonder how different it'll be all runed up.
everyone would have all runes anyways. it would have only been a matter of getting the next one up with a slightly higher number attached to it. that's no more boring than what this patch brings.
Why didn't they added a colorless gem?
One gem to upgrade whatever skill you want, you can still select the "skill rune", but the level is bound to the gem.
maybe it was too much grind...
They also need to write another long explanation for why they changed the health potion key to "Q" from "5"
The pics in Jay's blog show the key as Q, just saying, cuz i didnt see it in any beta patch, or i missed it
I think about it this way. The time you spend to find the right rune for your particular skill, would be from killing monster, maybe a lot of them before you can have the right rune, maybe it makes you gain some levels in the progress. If you are lucky and you gain your right rune in a short time, when you gain a new skill and have to go hunt for the right rune again, the process repeat, and you may not find it that easy. I understand some people does not like the new system. One of the MAIN REASON I think they changed it is to make sure you EXPERIENCE ALL the skills before you reach 60. At 60, you will, however, choose whichever build you want to. Your build might come earlier. But in my humble opinion, the main key is level 60. Before that, let just PLAY WITH THE GAME, and see what you like. You might change your favorite build after reach 60.
.
By the way, I would love to know if anyone care to think about all the nerfing and changing upon the classes skills?
It seems like they have put a serious amount of playing testing with those skills.
But afterall, they shall be all yours and mine.
haha.
im interested in seeing how the barb plays out now, that class did infact seem a little bit.... inferior compared to the other classes, i like the slight buffs.
Im not sure I like the rune changes, like so many others in this thread. Blizzard has been taking a kindergarten-approach to its games lately. Read: Wrath of the lich king, cataclysm and now Diablo. Everything for everyone-principle. Even though the rune UI looks pretty and all, I still think they are making their games too easy in some areas. The "problem" is that they can come up with good arguments that support the changes. Ultimately it is their game, until it is released so they can do what they want. Will be really interesting to see how the final product compares to my expectations.

if former, then if a WD or Wiz has 1000 int, (100% resistance) then GG inferno mode?
