Some good points made that D3 is actually more mechanically demanding. PoE is more or less just about the patterns. As everyone always stresses, the games can't be compared, but if you do, you notice they're just very much different, there's no better or worse. (I currently enjoy PoE more, but simply because there's nothing to do in D3 other than paragon farming and getting better rolls on my gear; in PoE you still have items to farm after hundreds of hours. Season 16 took me 7:20h, thanks to powerlevel and boost, to complete to Guardian, in PoE that's the time needed for a knowledgeable player to reach endgame.)
Anyways, didn't really know where to put this, and it seems like the last thread was 5 y/o, so I made a new one. Still breaking into PoE and enjoying it, but don't think it's gonna ever rival my close to 5k hours in D3...
That is exactly what i said to everyone that tried to get me into to playing PoE until now. I actually gave it a shot for the first time after "trying it out" for like 15 times and not really putting any effort in to understand how things work in PoE. Now i've put in over 250h and it's really an amazing game, 250h is nothing at all though and there is still soooo much to learn. Just saying buddy, give it a shot
No, I don't think it is a better game than D3, the one big thing POE has is more depth. That does not make it a better game, for some replayability is key to a great game, for others it is the actual gameplay, graphics & story or a multitude of other things.
For me D3 will be looked at with a great deal of fondness by people in years to come, it just lacked depth. I think they did not invest enough resources into endgame. Hoping that D4 is dark and from what i have seen so far looks great.
D3 has better gameplay but loses in almost every other aspect.
PoE has more depth, more build diversity, better crafting, more interesting gear, better character progress, better content progress, better bosses, more varied end-game content, an actual end-game and more actual content.
Now a lot of these mechanics are subjective. You may not want your game to have crafting or complexity but even with those removed D3 has a core problem and that is that you have your entire gear within 1 day and from there all your doing is hunting for +damage & +defense which is usually done via XP grinding your infinite paragon.
In PoE you progress gear by going from levelling gear > early crafted gear > cheap items > influence mods etc. So the gear progression is more than just +5% damage, it's massive upgrades, some build defining, game changing or just straight massive boosts. In PoE upgrading a piece of gear feels meaningful and that's one of the many places where D3 falls short. Nothing in D3 feels meaningful past the first day so why would I bother to continue to play past that point.
I hope they learnt from D3 and don't make the same mistakes in D4. For D4 to thrive it needs actual gear progression alongside character progression. It needs a varied and progressable end-game system to playthrough (the PoE atlas is an amazing example of this) and it needs to not have an infinitly scaling system that overshadows everything else in the game. I am terrified when I see D4s paragon boards, if they are anything like D3s paragon then D4 will be dead on arrivial. If the most efficent way to improve your character is to just grind an XP bar until you have so many stats nothing else matters then that's poor game design.
I'll admit though, there was a time I thought Blizzard could do no wrong but I am now at a point where I don't think they are up to the task. Blizzard aren't the innovative market leader they once was, they are driven by greed where making a game that keeps players hooked is more important than making a game that's good (which ironically leads to everyone quitting - see WoW). Maybe they will prove me wrong, but as it stands I have lost almost in faith in Blizzard as a company. They have thrown away 15 years of goodwill in a mere couple years.

I prefer D3 a thousand times than PoE, the graphics and the gameplay is, I tried PoE but I did not understand it as well as D3

PoE is better than D3, D2 and D2R are better than PoE

I enjoy both but I like D3 more. I play about 100 hours of both every season.
Biggest problem in POE is that leader boards are based to calendar time and season themes are little bit odd. eg. tower defending.
If you don't like season theme it gets boring very quickly. What happen to me during current season. I like SSF a lot but that limits builds big time.
