why no poll about it? but i dare to say they both have their positives aswell as negatives. which of them is more appealing to one is their own choice. personally i like PoE a bit better. Also if we are talking ARPG here you should take Torchlight 2 into consideration aswell not just D3 and PoE.
lol. why? torchlight 2 is like diablo 3 and path of exiles retarded, slow and ugly son.
d3 does the visual and combat part insanly well, path of exile does items and leveling really well, torchlight 2 does all of em halfassed.
As someone who has likely played both Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 much longer than you, I completely disagree.
D3 only has its combat going for it (ignoring the parts of it that are terrible like massive hit boxes). PoE and TL2 both trump it in leveling, itemization and end game, with PoE being more customizable and TL2 being more thematic.
Rares suck.
most Legendarys still suck.
Crafting sucks.
Paragon without Ladder sucks.
Ubers suck (once you got your ring).
Mob Density sucks.
Skill Diversity sucks.
Lore is boring, spoonfed, and it sucks.
the whole Diablo3 Framework is staged on Lies, false promises and lots of hot air.
TL2 is going to feel very boring at first. This is something most people agree with, but the moment the uniques start dropping and you get multiple tier bonuses on your abilities, the game blossoms. I also don't think you can say that D3 and PoE are better games than TL2 with only 12 hours played. That's simply not fair given that you KNOW it's the kind of game that requires much more time than that to get to its core. Some people spent an entire month before they reached Inferno and to them D3 was the best game ever. Then they started Inferno and an entire month of positivity was changed by a single night of gaming.
As far as hours, I wasn't talking about total hours. My bad for not being specific. I've played Diablo 3 from day one of the beta (I was let in with press wave) and day one of the TL2 beta (same thing). As such I'm saying that I have seen both games change considerably over that time and Diablo 3 actually got worse while Torchlight 2 only got better. I don't really care about hours played, but I have 680 hours in D3 and 300+ in TL2 if you're interested.
Graphics are pretty good, The combat is smooth, Easy To pick up,
Lore isn't to bad, Paragon levels, Not much of a learning curve.
Cons:
Repetitive, 99% of the loot you find is worthless, Lack of Content,
To Easy to hit the level cap, AH makes it to easy to gear up, No PvP, Cookie cutter specs.
PoE:
Pros:
Insane Skill Tree, Long grind to level cap (100), No AH, No Gold as currency,
Set around a dark theme, Helpful community, Has PvP, Has Ladders,
Awesome skill design, Innovative game play, F2P, Interesting flask system.
Cons:
Slightly outdated graphics, Lack of key binds, Cant customize the UI, Not very user friendly, Steep learning curve, Group play can be a pain to setup. Loss of XP when you die.
Long grind to level cap (100), No AH, No Gold as currency,
Set around a dark theme, Helpful community,
I don't get how a "long grind to 100" is a pro. That totally seems like a con to me and is essentially the same as paragon levels.
Also, I think Diablo 3 has a pretty helpful community too (look at all the build guides and budget character build guides floating around). There's just a TON of negativity that makes the D3 community look bad.
Then again, I haven't played PoE; just seen it on stream.
In a perfect world PoE would run on diablo's engine
I prefer PoE's engine & graphics. D3's looks good, but it feels too much like it's painted. You can go into the woods in Act 1 and you'll see - the trees and everything are stationary and don't move. Most of the areas aren't randomized, so it's like coming back and looking at the same painting over and over. Sure it looks good, but it gets old fast.
When I first encountered PoE...it seemed pretty bland and uninteresting. Now, if I had 1000$ it would go straight to Grinding Gear Games. Only the ignorant choose to discard the beautiful qualities it has.
When you realize that this game is made by a total of 18 or so people (some guys from New Zealand), get into it and see for yourself that they have succeeded where giants like Blizzard failed, you can only be left in awe. At least, I was. This game's beautiful complexity along with GGG's love for the community - seeing as they are interested and actually listen to what the players have to say, not only saying so in obscure forum posts - has rejuvenated my faith in the gaming industry.
You don't know me, and probably never will. But heed my words: this game will be loved by millions. Its fanbase will see a booming rise in numbers over the course of 1-2 years.
You've said enough right there. RMAH is the reason Diablo 3 is a failure. Everything Blizzard is doing and has done for Diablo 3 has been out of greed, and the RMAH has been the source of that greed.
In a perfect world, an ARPG would have the Diablo dev team circa 1997 and the Blizzard money (and pick of industry talent with it) circa now.
I may be wrong, but I heard that most of PoE's devs are ex-Diablo 1/2 developers.
Also throwing Blizzard level funds at PoE is all very well, but look at where greed got Diablo 3. I'm not too sure virtually unlimited funds would be a good thing for PoE development. If you're making a game for the money, it fails. If you're making it for the players, it usually succeeds; or at least this is the case with D3/PoE.

To your first point; Blizzard is a company, which means not only do they want money, they NEED money to keep funding games. Of course they are going to try and strike a balance between a fun game for most and what will get them the most profits. Luckily in video games you can have both because a good game usually sells well. Why SHOULDN'T Blizzard try and earn some of the money so many other people have been making off their previous titles? If there wasn't an RMAH in D3, then you'd have a million and 1 sites selling the items. It seems to me you'd rather have your head in the sand and if you don't 'see' a lot of people buying gear, then you feel better about yourself.
On the topic of PoE, it's torchlight that you're thinking of that has some of the employees that worked on D1 and D2. I played the PoE beta, and in it's core it's a bad game. Very few monster types / The gem = skill system / no actual currency besides 'mats' / combat is just completely boring, the list goes on. My opinions of course, but there's a reason D3 sold SO many copies; It's a good game.

In that perfect world, Condor without Blizzard would've released a claymation, turn based RPG named Diablo and people wouldn't even know the game today.
PoE, i LOVE the active/passive skills, and the currency system.
Though diablo got smoother animation, this might change when the final product is out
I can see myself putting in A LOT of hours and money into this game, maybe it will be so successful it will get major patch`s and expansions
i have played POE and when i come back to diablo 3 to look how the things are going every act and every map looks like whyrmshire for me... PoE is awesome.

Alas, we do not live in a perfect world, and none of this generation of ARPGs come close to the D/D2/LoD as the complete package.
Because everyone wants a minimum-wage job when they play a PC game, right, bro?

Sure, bro. It's important to enjoy what you do for a living.
