Yes I hope too, but we can't customize it as we wish ... I expect something cool to customize stats.
Something like (idea) :
hit monsters to increase strengh.
hit many time in a row or doing critics to increase dex.
take damage from monster to increase your life / resist
use your spell to increase the amount of mana (energies?)
What do you thing ?
A system like this could be possible. But i think those "Achievements" (hit monsters to increase str for an example) must have level requirements also....
Like, only at a certain level, i can gain this amount of strength if i hit this many monsters.
Nice interview sixen funny how u really stumped him with those lore questions. A lot of great info in that and hopefully monk female will be out soon along with the skill names.
The problem with stats imo is just that they all have an obvious point where you don't need any more of it.
When you're killing everything in one hit, you don't need any more strength. When you're never missing, you don't need any more dex. When your healing potion heals you faster than any monster could ever damage you, you don't need any more health. And... well you never need any energy lol.
I just don't see how this could change in Diablo 3. The statistics could be balanced roughly, but there would still be a best way to spend them.
I think the goal it isn't to do that !! if the progression is well, you'll always need all stats because it's just too useful. d2 stats lack and are not balancing, so I don't think blizzard will make the same error twice.
Well, if you can't kill a monster in one hit, then the next best thing is to kill it in two hits, correct?
It was just to explain that there's always a best way of doing it... In old games statistics used to be randomly given at game creation and then you could get bonusses to them during the game... In any game where you can personally choose them there's always been a best way to do it for any particular build... I'm not just talking about Diablo 2's flawed statistics where vitality was so much better than anything else (that was crappy too, but it's not the main problem). The system itself is flawed in how it works.
And you could say, hey the same can be said about skills, sure but playing a different build with non-conventional skills was actually a fun challenge to do, you can't say that about stats.
I know many game work like that, but who said that's perfect in this way ?
When you have only one best manner to do that it's mean the game is not balanced well. Each stat need to bring there own utilities, and all must be equal. If I put 100 points in strengh it's must be proportionately strong to 100 points in defence or in any others stats.

I guess it could be more balanced if stats had diminishing returns depending on how much higher it is than your other stats. A completely balanced character would have much higher total stats, but it would not be specialized. You can choose to go with the build for the most damage, but you will lose more defense than you gain in damage. A pure tank would of course go with full defense, but its damage would just be ridiculously low. This is how simple RPGs have designed their heroes for a long time. The higher you push one stat, the more it costs you in your other stats. You can choose different levels of specialization depending on what role you want to have in a party. Pure party characters would choose to specialize in one stat because the rest of the party would make up for what it can't do. A pure party Wizard would for example choose 100% damage without having to be afraid of not beeing able to survive. You might want to specialize in 2 stats if you aren't playing in a party all the time, or otherwise you would have too many weaknesses. And a soloer would want to be able to take on the roles of all party members at once, so a balanced build is preferred.
They give us few details about how the game will work and at some point is starting to be frustrating.
Think about it, if they revealed everything at once, why would people wait for years to play the games? And also, they probably will continue to change factors within the game up until the game is released. There's no way they could tell us everything, :P.
Imagine the news if they didn't do iterations. We would get 99% repeated news once the game is fleshed out.
Naw, it would just be one giant news post. Once. Then nothing until the game was released. How much fun would that be? I admit, I hate having to wait, I want the D2 patch right now, I want D3 right now. I want an Oompa Loompa now. But think about it, where would the fun be if they told us everything right away, saved no surprises, no nothing? We would be bored and would eventually not care. There would be no hype... It'd be no fun~
Fantastic interview, Sixen. It's so nice to hear something new around here.
I really dislike the dialogue system though. I simply don't like the idea of the player getting too much personality in-game. Maybe I'm just too much of an RPG kind of guy but I like to create the image of my character mostly in my imagination and not have it handed to me. I feel monologues are also just better storytelling in general. The tone is very different from a dialogue.
I was hoping a rare item would have a chance to be better than any legendary item if a person was lucky enough to find such a rare. I think it's strange that Blizzard wants to make rares only the best for certain weapon or armour types. Why limit it's potential so much?
Thank the lord they're going to be keeping immunities to only one per monster and that the new skill system will allow us to easily work around immunities.

They can't tell us everything because it's not everything that's confirmed, blizzard try many things and always change how it works.
It's why they cannot tell us more until it's sure, because people will be too frustrate and everyone will having always a false joy.
im glad they arent wasting their time on ureh; looking at a magnificent city (for me) is never as fun as killing stuff (in the long term), and all the hard work would be wasted in a less interactive place than a battlefield, especially since you look at the city from a bad camera angle.
Well you've never read the book then. It isn't what the city looks like that is cool, it is what the city is, and what happens inside the city that makes it simply amazing.

That method would be horrible. The people with the most time would have the best characters. Not to mention that it has already been confirmed multiple times that the stat system is now an auto assign system.

You may say that, but in the industry, it is common knowledge that if you have to use a monologue (in film, tv, vg, books), you have failed. If you can tell a story and involve other characters, it becomes much more interesting to the everyone. Why do you think most monologues in movies are actually voice overs? Because a single actor can't hold everyone's attention the way multiple actors can.
Just imagine hearing one voice for an entire game, with a 5 minute monologue for every single quest, and you can't skip it. You would go insane! Now throw several different voices and personalities in there, and it is now not only bearable, but enjoyable and interesting.
And what does RPG stand for? Role Playing Game. You are playing the role of a character. If you want to play the role of someone you can completely create on your own, write a book.
Me likey new smileys!xD Except that this one looks like he's got a black eye.:P
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

They said, they will make a new manner to customize your stats... it's an idea..
I know that can't be done in that way only because "The people with the most time would have the best characters" I'm agree but something can be done to prevent that.
So then you spread out your statistics to where they all get just as much and there's still a best way of doing it.... I'm trying to think of a way where statistic spending could have an actual meaning, be an actual choice seperate from your choice of which build to pursue... Can't really think of anything that would work.
Getting a bit here..
So... what you want ? a predominant stats that any one will choose because is better than others ??
It's just too logic to want any stat equal. If each stats have a different meaning and they are efficiency equally, it will perfect like that.
Well there's the thing, I don't think it's used succesfully in any game
Agree, many game do it wrong... too MANY... But I'll hope that Blizzard will do somthing great... I think it's why they put an auto-stats system..
But it's weird to choose depending of equipment because your equipment are constantly changing.
Well, most players nowadays have builds and items already thought out prior to creating their character. With that in mind, they'll know the amount of Strength they need to put in and how much they will gain from other items, etc.

I'm going to make this as short as possible short, as I have little to say. As far as "pure" drama series' go, Boston Legal DVD is the one that had it all right.Fabulous actors, writers with imagination and a sense of humor, and most of all, the series had a soul. It had an opinion, and the nerve to bring it forth. Entertainment that is afraid of making a statement can be relaxing, but relaxing entertainment that manages to make a statement, whether the viewer agrees with the statement or not, is something much greater.5 seasons is a lot better than a lot of worthy series have done, but still, the cancellation is a huge injustice and I will sorely miss the wits that this series had to offer. It is a shame that a series such as Boston Legal does not reach the grand audience that it well deserves.

I'm saying I want customizable stats (if they are balanced) if not I prefered auto-stats...
But notice that blizzard said stats will be customizable, in a different way (items)

I perfer more minor leveling than less major leveling. I prefer to have often small customizations than rarely big meaningful customization.
