Very nice interview. Thank you, Sixen!
A bit disappointing about Ureh. I haven't read all of the books yet, but I was still looking forward to seeing it. It looked awesome in the cinematic teaser!
Your interview all kind of went downhill from the PVP question, though. He wasn't cooperating as much once you tried to get him to slip up.
I didn't do an exact Transcript, I did a Q&A stlye, but just prior to that question, Bashiok said I only had 4 minutes left. Things had to be quick, :P.

why bother interviewing anyone from blizzard on diablo 3 all we ever seem to get is 'not ready to talk about that yet' and "no comment", what's the big freaking deal, with a lack of screenshots/videos/information as of late my interest is plummeting.
oh yeah btw twitter is gay
Good read, I would like to know if the developers play SC or Diablo 1-2 online on Bnet currently, of course they won't say cause they will be harassed and swarmed, also losing on the game you are making a sequel too won't look so good.
is there any unveiling of the chat gem? i mean, i just read through this whole discussion for chat gem stuff lol.
the interview is same ol in a way. heres this to munch on, but wait, not too much now lol. i know they cant tell us, but i just dont temp myself to much with it :P. BUT THE CHAT GEM! AHHHH!
as for the interview itself, props. good questions, ehh answers. no blame anywhere except that im not playing lol
so we're looking to make the armor and weapons very fantastic looking, but we're not going to have for instance a two handed sword that's bigger than the character. We're keeping things proportional.
Not new info, but really cool interview. The people from this site allways do a exceptional job, i'm glad i'm here to XD!

About the interview. Imo the skill system change was not even close to a suprise and i and many others have said it many times across this forum. If i can get points in a high tier skill by investing in another tree, the trees becomes nothing more then a form of organizing, but the system it self if not but a list of skills to get.
Imo they should change back to what diablo 2 was in sort way. A skill tree division based at the skills fuctions. The skill requiriment aren't necerely bad. Theres alot of game that made it pretty well. Anyway, i hope they develop some really creative and nice stuff cause the skill trees are a big part of the game, at least for me.
Anyway... I think that it is best to have max 3 systems with much customization than 50 with a little each. The primary systems used in D2 were Skills and Items (not attributes). D3 is so far using Skills and items as primary systems, and Runes as a secondary system.
I'm ok with a secondary system for Items, or something completely new, but I would not want another secondary way to customize your skills. Or even worse; secondary on secondary, like a way to put runes in runes. It would be too much to keep track of without careful planning.
You claim that the attributes distribution in d2 wasn't a major customization system, and i say you are totally wrong.
Every type of build you wanted to make, you had to put the stats in certain places and amounts... It was a crucial thing as far as customization went in D2.
Theres a different between a pvp and a pvm sorc, where you put all of your stats on Dex or Vita...
Reaching max block with chars that used a shield...
wasting the absolute minimum on Strength and put everything else on Vita was very important for barbs for an example...
etc, etc...
Now i know this isnt much. But we cant ignore the simple fact, that if you didnt put your stats right in d2, you would get pwned in PVP, and you wont be as much effecient in pvm.
I know what Bashiok and Jay said, but they didnt mean that it didnt customize anything in D2, they meant that it wasnt enough customization and that they want something different.
If they said they didnt like the attributes system in D2 it dosnt mean it sucked and that it wasnt one of the ways you could customize your character.
In D2, stat points = one of the three major customization systems.
Dude, when you use a shield, on every clvl, your Dex should be higher than a certain amount so you can have max block which is 75%.
Its not that you only use the shield and you got max block... No.
A sorc for PVP, using a shield, had to have a certain amount of Dex at level 99 which was a pretty high amount, so she can have max block....
"D2 was primarily PvE with PvP enabled (but almost not supported at all)." - It wasnt supported game-wise with some UI's and such... but there is a large part of the d2 community which lived off of PVP... and only PVP. No one can ignore this fact. PVP in d2 was the highest you can get. The most hardcore builds and characters were pvp, with the craziest gear.... All of that pvp dedicated... anyway...
I meant that shield block doesn't have anything to do with attribute custmization. You went with max block with a shield, or you don't use a shield. So the customization is actually to sacrifice vitality for blocking, not vitality for dexterity.
I dont get it... The Dex is for blocking, so whats the difference... Your just trying to confuse me out of this argument xD
Good work on this interview. It's nice to get some excitement pumped back into the wait. I think they've got a lot more put together than they let on. Sure they've got major systems they're probably pulling teeth on, but at least they're willing to work at it and only include something that is worthy. Like the skill system for example....I'm excited to hear that they're trying something new in that area. I hope it works out.

I agree, too much customization just leads to confusion and balancing issues. I think customization is great but it has to be kept in check. Between gems, skill runes, new skill system, I feel that one system for items would be just fine.

Everyone should stop talking about the chat gem. I feel like they just put it there in order to generate confusion, which is essentially what is happening. F*** the system, and stop hyping it up!!! lol.
@ Jamoose and emilemil1
I'll cut it out lol, stats in d2 are not balanced well so the customization suffer from that. I mean to have a great customization each stat point need to be equal, in the way you don't know where put your points because each stat are tempting.
For d2, to got balanced stats, I guess energy need to add magic damage (add more damage to your spell) dexterity need to be more useful not only for block, attack rating never work correctly... life and strengh is ok, but strengh can add more physical damage and life some resist.
Anyway, for d3, stats will not be customizable in the same way so...
Regardless, you would still always get dex up high enough that you don't miss every time you try to wack at something, or have high enough block % and not bother with it anymore than that. And if strength and magic actually added to damage in a meaningful way than noone would bother with life anymore than being able to take one or two hits and keep standing because they had potions for that.
It's not a flaw of Diablo 2 per s?, it's actually every game with customisable statistics works this way. In Dragon Age: Origins, my Rogue needs a certain amount of Strength to be able to wear some good armor, and beyond that enough dexterity to train the right skills and about 10-20 constitution (=vitality), and everything else in Cunning (which determines a rogue's damage output). It's the system that's flawed, not the implementation of it in Diablo 2.
Edit: to further explain...
You could for instance let Dexterity also determine chance to critical hit, but then it would become a calculation between how much critical chance and how much strength (regular damage) works best. All in strength would probably be a bad idea, and so would be all in dex, and you would always have a different equation depending on what build and what items you choose... It'd get pretty complicated I guess, but there would still not be any real customization because there's always a golden line - there's always a best way to do it.
Yeah, I just throw an idea.
When I said dex in d2 doesn't work correctly it's because it's happen too often to miss 5 hit in a row when I have 85% to hit... I don't know if it's the real pourcent or it's only a fake like many stats in d2... I think it's a fake one because too many time I miss. I make a paladin, before use hammer I haven't any problem and I never put a single point in dex... Level 85 with 20 dex.... Sometime I put dex and I got problem to touch...
maybe a code can arrange that, like when you miss, your % increase until you hit.
After having enough of strengh to wear your armor, you don't have any reason to continue to put point in strengh, I call that a wrong balancing...
it will be nice if attribute points will have a bigger role in to the game not just for show.
Yes I hope too, but we can't customize it as we wish ... I expect something cool to customize stats.
Something like (idea) :
hit monsters to increase strengh.
hit many time in a row or doing critics to increase dex.
take damage from monster to increase your life / resist
use your spell to increase the amount of mana (energies?)
What do you thing ?
