For D3 I'd like to see acheivements replace the D2 ladder system.
A Little off Topic:
I do think it'd be really sweet if there was some type of arena that would have limitless levels and just continually get harder. Perhaps they could just increase the monsters hp/dmg/immunities/etc...every couple of levels. I see it as a Diablo version of GoW's Horde. Also don't make it stop at lvl 50. Just have it go on forever. Then people are always trying to get farther. It should also keep track of what level you've reached on the arena. As some indication of each players skill/equipment/etc. This would also add to the amount of playing time. I could see myself trying to get as high as possible, then maybe going and doing 'adventures' to level up/find better gear. Then going back to the arena to try and get higher.
Or perhaps it could be some endless dungeon, that just goes farther and farther underground. And enemies get more challenging the farther you go down. But I'd really like to see it be endless because then people would always have something to try and do. "Gotta get to the next dungeon level. Or maybe make it 100 levels but you can only get to level 100 when your character is level 100....I dunno just throwin ideas out there. Sorry for the rant.
I find that a really good idea !! If it's not a part of the story, something other side of the game, where you can compare yourself with the others, something really hardcore that is hard to finish it, but with a smooth progression of difficulty, who's will get farther is the best... It's a great replacement of ladder.
With gaining experience points by automatically killing monsters, creating games, and rehashing constantly without ending, which a human can't do due to physical needs?
Well i never bothered with ladder either but some achievements would be nice to have in D3 or some trophies, we need something to keep the game fresh 2 years after it comes out.

Ever since the release of patch 1.10, Diablo II has maintained a high and enduring ladder to rank its players based on their experience points and levels. As spawned by our Twitter Tracker here, how do you feel about the ladder system of Diablo II?
Some things to consider might be how it graded players. Was experience alone the best determinate? What else might have been good to consider alongside it? Some other conditions that it may have been prudent to save and reuse for grading players could be as follows:
Total number of other players you have beaten.
Total number of monsters you've killed.
Total gold value of all items on your character- this may have made non-set and non-unique items more worth saving, since magic, rare, and crafted gear sold for higher gold prices than other gear.
What do you agree with, or conversely, what do you think could be better? Have any other ideas?
How far have you come on the ladder in Diablo II, or do you even bother participating? How have third-party programs affected the ladder system? Would you be more enthusiastic about the ladder if third-party programs weren't as prevalent?
I never bothered participating, i dont like trying to beat bots :S, btw why are u upsets with hamsters xD

Working with adobe and/or java is like pushing a paper clip against a building and expecting it to move...
For people to compete in a experience ladder, your 'opponents' must not have a too big head start. If they are one week ahead you have no chance of winning. This is why monthly (or longer) resets wouldn't work well. You would have to start exactly in the beginning or you have no chance at winning. This can be translated into Blizzard forcing us to play on day X or you won't have another chance for another month, how fun is that?
It's simply not fun !! lol I work, I have friends, I have a life... I don't have the time to do that so it's mean I'll never have chance to participate to ladder !! It's supposed to work fine in that way ?
And all stop to talk about Bots, yes it's a problem in d2 but what said that d3 will have bots ??? blizzard will take care about that...
I just hope, that Blizzard make something new , and will surprise all of us. And of course make something more then they do with a cheaters and third-party programs :(.

PvP characters is making it all too complicated. You have to deal with how non-PvP characters interact with PvP characters inside the game, how you handle a non-PvP character who wants to become a PvP character and vice versa, as well as other problems. How many games will a person looking for some PK action have to join and drop out of in their search for a PvP enabled player?
No, a much better option in my opinion is to have the option of creating PvP games where anyone has the option of initiating PvP without consent. However, I'm guessing that it wouldn't be a very widely used feature at all, which is why I don't think Blizzard is going to do it and why they've said as much. I do look forward to seeing what they do come up with though.
Like most players on the ladder, i know from start that i cant win and be the first to 99. I have a life and I dont use dupes or hacks or bots so I cant win.
Right, So I hope Blizzard will innovate the ladder to bring that more attractive and not only compare players with the time we play (exp/lv). I expect more than 1 superficial stat like level.
I'd like to keep the old level based ladder. But we could have tabs for different criterias. In softcore.. least deaths or what not. That could courage people to die less.

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Agreed. Level and gear are proof of achievement. I just don't see what some extra little icon or useless trophy adds to the game in any way.
Maybe he meant the new one where the reset moves your character to non-ladder etc.
